The St. Louis Scarecrows aren't getting the depth scoring from all four lines as they had hoped, but the high end talent is there doing it's job. Their leading scorer, Logan Jensen, is doing all he can to give the team a chance every night. Sitting at 19 goals, he is tied for the second highest in the league, only 2 shy of the number one spot. While the goals are there, his point total currently sits at 38. While that is a respectable number, and the 7th most in the entire league, he is still 10 points behind the current leader. It seems unlikely that he catches up in point totals, but the goal scoring lead is a definite possibility. Especially if the shots keep coming for him, as he has 147 shots on net, the second most in the league.
Jensen is the easiest to pick out for his offensive success, there are others who help lead the way. Dermot Lavelle has a plus-minus of 15, tied for the best in the league, and is 1 higher than teammate Logan Jensen's.
Individual talent will help the team win games, but team play and depth scoring will need to rise to the challenge to ensure that the Scarecrows find success during the last stretch of games.
Chase Byron is arguably the Colorado Mammoths' top defender. Playing alongside Your Overload and clocking nearly 23 minutes a game, he is one of the top two players in terms of ice-time on a Mammoths team that is deep enough to not require too much by the way of double-shifting. As it stands, he has 25 points (4 goals and 21 assists) in 36 games. He also has an important 48 shots blocked, leading the team.
In the overall scheme of things, this point total sets him at #8 amongst defencemen. The two top defenders have 43 points and 36 points (Connor Tanner and Tatu Makela respectively). Mekela has 9 goals and 27 assists making up his point totals, with 43 shots blocked and over 23 minutes per game. This means he plays marginally more than Byron, but has blocked less shots overall. Tanner, on the other hand, is a special case. With 17 goals and 26 assists, he's looking like a shoe-in for defenceman of the year, and a future SHL star to boot. While his 10 shots blocked falls far behind both Makela and Byron, thanks to the Militia's high offense style, he has the lowest minutes played of the three with 19.91. This gives us the interesting predicament: while often top players only become such due to being overplayed, as the SHL proper has seen all too often leading to substantial rule changes, the SMJHL has seen a defender playing rather fair minutes dominating against bigger-minute players.
There's one other statistic worth comparing these men on, and that's their power-play performance. Tanner has 4 goals and 10 assists on the powerplay, being one of his team's better special teams performers (though below names such as Jack Tanner and Alexander McKinley). Makela has also been excellent with 4 goals and 8 assists, plus has a shorthanded goal to add an added feather to his cap. The last offensive of them all, Byron has 4 goals and 3 assists -- still up there on his team. All three men are clearly top defenders, but it's not hard to see that Byron is comparatively average offensively compared to Makela and Tanner. In part, this may be due to the Mammoths own lacklustre offensive chemistry. But in any event, it's tough competition to go up against.
Montreal Militia is now one of the top performing teams in the SMJHL in the third place, just five points away from the League Leaders - Detroit Falcons and Prince George Firebirds. Their success obviously is contributed to a very good production from their players.
For example their leading player Connor Tanner who is both the leading goalscorer and assister in the league has 43 points in all games, 17 of them goals and 26 as assists. That makes him one of the best players in SMJHL - 6th best goalscorer (4 goals from the leader Dionyz VyskoÄ), 5th best assistant (4 assists from the leader Paddy Kane-Reilly). Also Connor is the best defender in the league and the third best player overall by points as he trails Paddy Kane-Reilly, the superstar forward from Prince George, only by 5 points.
They also have an amazing goalkeeper - Cedric Moreau who is currently on an unbelievable 90.0% save percentage and is quite possibly one of the best rookies this season has seen. Overall Cedric and Connor will be the main factors in determining with how far Montreal is to go this season, but undoubtedly they have only improved through the weeks and we'll just have to see what they bring in play-offs.

Noah Nørup is the at the top of his game and couldn't bet better for the Knights, as a defencemen he has managed to notch 33 points in 32 games and is snowing no signs of slowing down any time soon. This guy is a beast, tough as nails and gets the job done at both ends of the ice. He has put himself in the conversation for the best Dman in the SMJHL. Noah sits at +3 on the year, it really shows how solid he is a preventing goals and turning the puck up ice. Noah is always on the score sheet and that has put him to the top ten in scoring throughout the entire SMJHL, right up there with some of the best forwards. With only 5 goals on the year, the dude helps everyone on the roster. Noah is one of the main reasons that the knights scoring is spread between the entire lineup and why they are as good as they are. When Noah is on the ice, every forward line that plays with him turns into a serious threat from the blueline and in the rush. If Noah can keep up this pace he and the knights are in for something special.

The Montreal Milita have been playing very solid hockey as of late. The team is looking like they will taking place in the playoffs yet again this season. A big reason for their success is defenseman Connor Tanner.
Tanner is the offensive sparkplug for the Militia this season. In 36 games thusfar he has pitched in 17 goals and 26 assists, giving him a total of 43 points. That puts him in third place in the league, behind Paddy Kane-Rielly and Dionyz Vyskoc. Also worth noting is that his shooting percentage of 11.26% ranks 19th of the top 20 SMJHL scorers. If he can figure out how to put the puck in the net with a little more regularity, he could see himself challenge for that top spot overall. However, even with his shooting percentage where it is he still ranks top 10 in the league in goals (6th with 17) as well as assists (5th with 26). Meanwhile his 151 shots leads the league!
Another big part of Tanner's success comes from his prowess on the power play. So far he's tied for third in the league in powerplay goals with 7.
If the Militia want to keep on playing well as they set their sights on the playoffs, they need Connor Tanner to keep up the tremendous offensive season he is having.

Here in Kelowna, defenseman Noah Nørup is powering the minor power offense from the back end up. At 35 pts in 38 games he gives us a chance to win every night and is 3rd in scoring for defensemen in the league.
A while ago his 18 pims were said to be high but he hasn't had a penalty in the last 6 games so he is responsible and sound. The team's play has improved as a result.
In all of this he is defensively responsible with 27 Shots blocked and ample time on the PK. On one of the better four PKs at that.
Shout out to Lyndis Vakarian for absolutly peppering the opposition with shots with 122 SHOTS!!! Wow, our teams ability to put the puck on net, and hit it is a testimate to the league's soon to be best offense *Wink*
Bonus is the physicality. We are a very physical team that is winning with this style. Nobody leads the way like Fenton Urial and his 90 hits. Grape's golden boy flies the ice like a jet and hits like a Freight Train.
The Prince George Firebirds are leading the league by a six points margin right now and a big part of that is due to the production of their first line who provides most of the offense of the team. The first line is composed of center Paddy Kane-Rielly, left winger BlÃ¥bär Bananerström and right winger Dionýz VyskoÄ. There are all parts of the top 5 scorers in the SMJHL. Kane-Rielly is the league point leader with 55 points, 5 more than his closest opponent. VyskoÄ is third in league scoring with 48 points and Bananerström is fifth with 44 points, but first in goals scored with 23 goals in 41 games. Those three players have scored 43% of all the goals scored by the Firebirds this season. Paddy Kane-Rielly is also the league leader in assists with 34 and the fifth best faceoff taker in the league with a faceoff percentage of 55.37%.
Some other players who are also part of the best players at their position are defenseman Maurice Picard and rookie goaltender Tommy Tuck. First pairing defenseman Maurice Picard is the league leader in +/- with +20 differential. He is also third in shots blocked with 58 blocked shots in 41 games. Rookie goaltender Tommy Tuck is the league leader in wins with 23 in 35 games. He is also second in save percentage by stopping 88.4% of the shots he faced and third in the league with a goal against average of 2.84.
The Firebirds' leading scorer, Paddy Kane-Rielly, leads the SMJHL in assists and is joint second in goals. Having scored in each of his last nine games, Kane-Rielly is truly the offensive star of the team. This superb offensive display has helped carry Prince George to an impressive 28-12-1 record, good for 57 points and the league's best. He has also scored two hat tricks, a feat only accomplished by one other player, Xavier LaFlamme of the Kelowna Knights. Being a centreman, he must also practice his faceoffs. He is currently fifth in faceoff win percentage among all players with a 55.37 win%. These timely faceoff wins help the team maintain puck possession off the draw and direct more chances toward the net. Prince George's second best scorer, Dionyz Vyskoc, has been doing much of the same as of late. He has 21 goals and 27 assists, for 48 points (T-3rd among all skaters). On a four game point streak he has amassed four assists whilst on the first and fourth offensive lines. He features in the top 10 in ice time this season, playing 914 minutes in 41 games, averaging 22:16 of ice time per night. Playing that much every night could have its drawbacks, but he seems to be coping well with the increased playing time. We can only hope that he continues his recent run of success.

This season has seen the Montreal Militia embark upon an impressive run up the standings after starting the year in the basement. Now just a few points out of first place, it's important to take a look at those who have had the biggest impact for the Militia this season. There are two names who stick out as the team's MVPs, both on- and off-the-ice. Not only have these players led the team in scoring, they also serve as the team's management, making the personnel decisions that have led to the current roster build-up.Â
First up is Connor Tanner. The defenceman-turned-forward has been scoring at an incredible rate this year, as he has already guaranteed point-per-game production by seasons' end with 50 points through 40 games. Tanner has potted 20 goals already this season, making him a huge threat in the offensive zone. Those goals have come through hard work, as his shooting percentage is not particularly high but he has absolutely peppered goaltenders with shots, leading the Militia with 173 this season. That's an average of over four shots per game!Â
Artemi Berezin has also been of vital importance to the Militia. Not far behind Tanner, Berezin has recorded 43 points – 10 ahead of the next highest Militia scorer. With 57 hits, Berezin is a force to be reckoned with, and is also the Militia's weapon-of-choice on the power play, as he leads the team with 8 power play goals.Â
While it is evidently not the best season for the Raiders, it does not mean that everything is looking bleak for us. Among the sparkles of hope the ray of light is Lukas Müller, who is undeniably carrying the team on his back. Being 10th in the league in overall points with his 7 goals and 32 assists, he's leading the team as well, and is second amongst the defensemen of the league. Yes, you've read it right, he's amassing these points in our top D line. One could say that "Ah, okay, he's alright in offense but look at all those goals scored against them!" Well, with his 52 blocked shots (tied for 5th in the league in this department) and 42 hits you can be damn sure that he's doing well at the back as well. Not to mention that no one on the league has seen more ice time than he did.
I have two more guys to mention here, as they might not be the biggest asset of the Raiders yet, but they're already letting their presence known, and can be the keys to Halifax's future success - if they stay. Yannick Berger and Jon Toner sit on second and third place in the rookies' points race with 23 and 22 points. Yannick already took a place in the first line as a left-winger, already dealing out 16 assists, Jon's contribution however seems more exciting, he's one assist short of Berger's offensive production, however on defense he's putting up numbers Lukas Müller can be proud of, so his place in the first line once any of our top D's says goodbye seems booked. If they develop steadily, they can be great addition to any SHL sides as well.
When people think of top line guys, cream of the crop, most eyes go towards scorers. My eyes jump somewhere else, to the Defensemen, the bullies on the ice. None other than John Grossman Jr. has done everything he can while playing for the Prince George Firebirds. Through 43 games played, he leads the league in hits with 141, and is tied for 7th on shots blocked at 53. This man is willing to throw his body all over the ice and take the beatings as well as dish them out, ranking tied for first in penalty minutes at 117. John Grossman Jr. throws his body on the line night in and night out to insure that there are wins coming for Prince George. One thing that he also brings to the table, is through 43 games, he is tied for first with 1 fight won. He is even tied for first with 1 empty net goal. John Grossman Jr. is everywhere on the ice, and for Prince George to continue to succeed they are going to need their big defenseman to continue to do everything to keep clear their net and throw his body on the line to keep the wins coming in. PGF loves you, John Grossman Jr., or at least the goalies do.
