Introduction to the Anchorage Armada

Hello hockey fans of the beautiful city of Anchorage, Alaska! I'm the Head GM of the Armada and I'd like to thank you all for welcoming us into your city and community. We at the Armada will strive to bring glory to your city and hopefully become an integral part of your community here. With hockey season just around the corner, I thought now would be a great time to introduce you all to our long time players and our new draftees! We'll start from our longest tenured players to the latest draftees.

 #82 G Benjamin Blue @"BoucherFan12"
Drafted 22nd overall in the S40 SMJHL Entry Draft, Blue has proved to be a terrific pick for us since being drafted. Coming off a career year and winning the Tom Corcoran Trophy (Goalie of the Year), Blue brings all the qualities you look for in a great goaltender and teammate. A short memory has allowed him to shake off a rough year one for him in Prince George to develop into the premier goaltending talent in SMJHL and his youthful exuberance is a welcome quality to our locker room. Blue as served both as a team captain in S40 and as an alternate captain in S41.

#9 LW Muhammad McLovin @kobel9
After signing as a free agent during S40 for Prince George, McLovin has proven to be one of our key leaders in our locker room. The man from Buffalo brings the gritty defensive work that teams love to have and hate to play against, while also providing his teammates with excellent passing and work rate to play a two way game. He has served as captain last season and looks to lead our team into it's first playoff berth as the Armada!

#92 RW Doug Dimmadome @Michalak29
After signing alongside McLovin during S40, Doug Dimmadome has developed into one of the offensive forces on our team. The winger can either pass or shoot with deadly accuracy and is poised to have a breakout offensive season in S41, but don't let the offensive ability fool you, Dimmadome does his business on both ends as he tied for the league lead in shot blocks by a forward last season, which even earned him a Brandon Holmes Trophy nomination.

#99 LW Cameron Carter II @Boomcheck
Drafted 10th overall in the S41 SMJHL Entry Draft, Carter has grown rapidly and looks to be a player with a real scoring touch, but with grit to grind down his opponents. After what he felt like a down season as a rookie with 22 points (8 goals and 14 assists), we expect him to prove to the other SMJHL teams that passed on him that they were wrong to overlook his talent. With an agency known for developing players quickly, don't be surprised when you see CC2 lighting up the SMJHL this season.

#6 D Jordan von Matt @JVMjrDOT
Drafted 8th overall in the S41 SMJHL Entry Draft, von Matt has shown that he has the ability to develop into the equitinsential Two-Way Defenseman. Great defensive instincts coupled with the skating and passing of a forward, JVM looks to anchor the Armada’s defensive unit. JVM has taken over some leadership roles in the team, enough so that he was named as an alternate captain as a rookie last season.

#18 LW Geno Natostado @OrnateSnot
Drafted 33rd overall in the S41 SMJHL Entry Draft, the American winger out of Scottsdale had a strong rookie campaign scoring 30 points, good enough for second among rookies last season and even earning an Esa Anrikannen Trophy nomination. A bit of an offensive specialist, the young forward looks to prove SHL teams wrong for allowing him to go undrafted in the S42 SHL Draft and show that he should be a top selection in a stacked draft class.

#10 LW Bust @Smirnov Light
Drafted 34th overall in the S42 SMJHL Entry Draft, Bust is looking to show that teams were mistaken to let the young American fall to the 5th round. A Two-Way Forward, with a knack for scoring goals, Bust looks to be a crucial addition to a team that needed more goals. His agency has been known to produce some great juniors players, so for him to fall to the Armada is a boon for a young hungry team ready to compete.

#81 RW Eero Niemi @spooked
Drafted 6th overall in the S42 SMJHL Entry Draft, the Fantastic Fin looks to be a premier sniper for years to come in the SMJHL. Another addition that looks key to solving the previous season’s scoring woes, look for Niemi to be in the hunt for the Esa Anrikannen Trophy come awards season. But don’t let his offensive showmanship fool you, Niemi is far from a one trick pony and has the defensive instincts to allow him to help out in his own zone.

#13 C Jax Aittokallio @JayWhy
Drafted 1st overall in the S42 SMJHL Entry Draft, Jax is apart of one of the SHL’s most prestigious hockey families in the Aittokallios. The young centerman has gone off the path of Jakub and Jason, and isn’t looking to be a goaltending prodigy, but intends to be the bane of goaltenders all over the league. Jax brings elite level skating at his young age and a great shot that should have goaltenders across the SMJHL, and eventually the SHL, honest.

#12 D Jonatan Bäck @Daddydonkers
Drafted 15th overall in the S42 SMJHL Entry Draft, the young Swede looks to be the foundation that allows all of the offensive players to thrive. Natural defensive instincts, coupled with his incredible strength for his age, Bäck will look to dominate the physical side of the game, allowing his skilled forwards to put on a show. He’ll look to hold the zone and help a young, exuberant offense keep possession of the puck.

#26 RW Ryan Mason @bamba1jl
Drafted 50th overall in the S42 SMJHL Entry Draft, the American power forward looks to be the ideal penalty killer early on in his career. But don't let his gritty game fool you, he's still a very skilled player who will be able to chip in on the offensive end with his underrated passing and scoring.

#36 D Rex Kirkby @Acsolap
Drafted 42nd overall in the S42 SMJHL Entry Draft, the young Brit looks like prototypical two-way defenseman with an eye for the pass. Kirkby looks like a player with real potential and could be the powerplay quarterback that the Armada have been looking for. He joins as JVM is getting stuck into the SMJHL game and I expect them to get along well as JVM passes his knowledge on to the young defenseman.

#16 D Tucker Baloo @Tucker Baloo
Drafted 74th overall in the S42 SMJHL Entry Draft, Baloo looks like one of the steals of the draft going in the 10th round, but all signs point to him being an active and impressive member to one of the best young defensive cores in the SMJHL. Another two-way defenseman who will look to push is his teammates forward on the break and already has the look of a strong defensive presence.

This a team I expect not just to make the playoffs, but to be one of the best teams in the SMJHL this season. Expect a team built on goaltending and defense that allows for it's young bright offensive stars to shine. We are excited to share this special inaugural season with all of you and we hope to make you all proud to say the Armada calls Anchorage, Alaska it's home.
