S43 PT #1 - New Season, New Reasons

MY SHL team has many strengths. The first one is that we have an infusion of young talent coming in. With the talented Harvey Danger and the Youngster with a strong pedigree (Daniel Karlsson) both making their debut we are only going to improve over last year. Two young rookie defensemen, holding down our first and second pair is amazing. It shows that the Renegades truly have a strong future up ahead.

Another strength of the Texas Renegades is our coaching. JP and Dan have won coach of the year two of the past three seasons. That's got to be nearly unprecedented in the league, as fvoters usually tire of voting for the same coaches. The two of them work super well together and lead a great locker room. There is not a doubt in my mind that the two of them are the best coaching pair in the league and they certainly inspire confidence in our whole team.

Another strength is our goal keeper. Walter Hobbs has a chance to be special. One of the only goal tenders to win Rookie of the Year in the history of the SHL Hobbs is definitely on the rise, and will cement himself as one of the premier goalies in the SHL. Texas is lucky to have him, and it is unbelievable to think the kid was drafted in the third round. What were the other SHL General Managers thinking? That wasn't even a reddit draft.

One more season, one more first round exit for the Platoon. However, the champagne taste of victory hangs on the tongues of those still here. The Platoon will make it back and win the title once again, with three main reasons:

1. Excellent coaching and player personnel work by JR. He’s drafted well, traded well, and worked free agency like a pro. We have a lot of talent on this squad and everyone has a harmonious relationship. I also don’t know if anyone that could make better likes for us.

2. Two of those players are Ludwig Koch Schröder and Sven Brokstad. The current top pair for the Platoon. Schröder brings his years of experience and deft touch on the stick, scoring goals left and right. Brokstad, getting up there in years, brings his hard nosed defensive mindset and set-up ability. When these two are on the ice, opponents don’t score and the Platoon hit the back of the net.

3. The insane talent on the top lines cannot be understated. Alex Light, Dani Forsberg, Leafer Reilly, Trevor Wilson, John Langabeer, and Dionýz Vyskoč are all killers and the true strength of this squad.

True story

The Whalers, while they have lost quite a few of their players to either call-ups or the 5 SMJHL season limit, still look like a strong team coming into next season. First of all, they have a very stacked defense, consisting of several very skilled veteran players like Geoff Moore, Tokek Takshak, Buck Maverick and Noah Nowes, as well as some SMJHL newcomers - Tauras Karazija as well as Barret McCarthy. The Whalers' goaltending is also one of, if not the best in the league - they've got a great goalie duo of Johannes Leitner and Greg Santos. Leitner is going into his second season on the Whalers - his first as a starter - meanwhile Santos has been a cornerstone of the Whalers for a few seasons now, having been their starter last season. While Santos is playing as a backup, he's still very good, as demonstrated by some of his performances in the Four Star Cup final where he almost single-handedly saved his team in some of the games. Lastly, you can't talk about the Whalers without mentioning their great offense. Their star player is Latvian SMJHL veteran Ēriks Skalbergs. Last season, Skalbergs put up 52 points - the only player to score above a point per game that season. He is also one of the frontrunners for the S42 MVP award - both the public vote and the commitee voted one. Of course, Skalbergs isn't the only good thing about Vancouver's offense - they've got many other great players like David Kastrba, Herb Robert and Luke Thomason.

Going into the new season I think an important group of players on the Militia will be the veteran leadership. The team has an active discord with many people willing to help out the new players, and a large group who are either capped, or close to capped.
The rookies who are coming in are enthusiastic and ready to take advice on how to build their characters so that they can best suit that team. They will be afforded the wonderful opportunity to play with capped players to help them statistically.
It looks right now as though the top two lines will be completely filled of capped players, which will provide a lot of offensive punch for this team. There are also two defenders who will provide veteran leadership on the back end with their capped/close to capped players. All of this is back stopped by Petr Vrana, who had a good first season last year as he had much of the load as a rookie goalie. He’s back now, with a lot more TPE under his belt, and a better team in front of him.
All of this should lead to a successful year for the Militia.

Maui and the Colorado Raptors are on the up and up after a season that ended a little premature. The Raps made an unexpected run into the playoffs with a roster anchored by veteran presence on the blueline yet full of rookies forwards. The team clawed their way into the top of the league only to be dispatched early on. Following their early exit from the playoffs, Raptors' GMs found themselves both parting ways with the organization. Flappy got the call to go to the show when Winnipeg of the SHL decided to hire Flappy to fill their vacant GM position. On the other hand, InciteHysteria announced his retirement from the league. The departures of both of the GMs in Colorado left the door open for change. This change has come in the form of Carbine. Carbine was official announced as the new manager of the Colorado Raptors just before the draft and he has come in set to win. Change can always be hard yet Carbine has been able to create excitement for a team that is ready to win. Carbine brings leadership strength from his time as a GM in GOMHL and his positions that he has held in the SHL thus far. The Raptors also have a slew of veteran defensemen set to lead this team into another successful season. The Raptors' defense is probably the best in the league and is definitely their biggest strength. The Raptors final strength is their young group of forwards that took the league by storm last season; one of whom is nominated for ROTY even. The team is poised to make a run this year and the rest of the SMJHL should be on notice.

Describing the strengths of the Calgary Dragons always just feels like gloating. But fuck it.

1. Joe Kurczewski – having one hell of a player who *MAYBE* might be a Hall of Famer someday certainly doesn’t hurt. I’m still a TPE psychopath (along with Izzy) so we have a formidable 1 -2 punch down the middle. I’ve slotted into the spot the Randleman held during the prior Dragons dynasty.

2. Esa the GM – I mean, it should really, truly, go without saying, but Esa is still the SHL’s premier general manager. He’s had a legendary player, and he’s won a record 5 Challenge cups! Anytime you have that guy running the ship, It’s pretty obvious that it’s a strength and an advantage over other teams.

3. Defense! – Our defense core is so bad ass, we could afford to take Roman Augustus and move him to forward! Shirobokov joins Creller, Maksimov, and the others to make up one hell of a blue line crew. (162)

The Texas Renegades had an unexpected S42 season relying on youth to help the team. This season they boast a strong youth core with the likes of Essellemm, Hobbs, Petrikov, O'Sullivan who are all returning in better form and will be relied upon to help carry the load more than last season. Along with them is a new crop of youth in Daniel Karlsson and Harvey Danger on defense and Noah Konn to the forward group. The way the youth has been progressing is a strength to this team.

The addition of League Veteran Theo Kane will help this team greatly. His experience is invaluable to the youth of this team and it never hurts having another leader in the locker room.

Coach of the year Winners JP and Dankoa are back at the helm of the team. Winning the award twice in 4 seasons, they are experienced enough to know how to maximize their roster to their maximum potential. With the expectation of going farther than last season a serious goal and these two at the helm, Expect more from this Texas Roster than last season.

While there are many reasons that Edmonton will be better than ever I have been tasked with listing in order to be more prepared for the upcoming season.

1) Connor Tanner is finally hitting his stride: The fourth year defencemen has seen his point total increase every season he has been in the and it finally capped off with an excellent season last year where he managed to make the third team all-star.

2) Geronimo Otto is an elite replacement for Theo Kane: While Theo Kane was no slouch in his second trip around with the Blizzard, his scoring presence is not even close to the level of Geronimo at this point, he will be an asset to the top line and is almost sure fire for 45+ points this season.

3) Michael McFadden can not be a sieve forever: Let us be honest with ourselves, the man can't be a sieve for the entirety of the season like he is in the playoffs, I fully expect a president's trophy.

After missing the playoffs for the first time in a very long time, the Jets look to rebound from last season into this season, which means another season of regression of guys Evans, Volkova, Kylrad, Weber and now Jesus who has started his regression after his 10th season of hockey SHL/SMJHL. This team has very all rounded when it comes to stats wise with last nobody getting over 45 points as they are a really cohesive unit. With a new addition of the rookie Troy Mcclure III and the added responsibility of Max Poulin to the first d pairing with anchor of the defence in Max Weber they look to hold it down in on the defensive side. Another season of Blackwell will be very interesting to see as he looks to improve his point total of last season in his first season with Jets after his trade from the Steelhawks with Singh who had a great season and fit the mold of the Steelhawks real quickly. As expected people still have the Jets to win the Challenge Cup like they have the past and now it's time of the Jets to prove that last season was a fluke.

Heading into S43, many have already written off the North Stars after a less than ideal off-season, seeing the loses of Jasper Clayton and, the surprise, Bobby Watson. But all is not lost in Toronto, and there are definitely still positives to look to for the upcoming season.

1) Youth - This team is still ridiculously young. 10 players are S37 or younger and there are some premier young talent to look to. The Richan winner Mikhail Lokitonov, Jesster nominee Anders Christiansen, young defenseman in Bergen, Physt, and Emond. That leaves out another key player that I will mention next in...

2) Young Goaltender - Tommy Tuck (@Muford ) is getting to that point, talent-wise, where he is going to start to steal games, which with the losses of Watson and Clayton, is going to be key if this team is going to contend and possibly make the SHL playoffs for the first time since S37.

3) Management - Finally I think that we have a really solid management group. Nobody has proven that he can work wonders with lines as the UK IIHF head, and Symm has made some great moves when the opportunities are there.

The offseason was full of excitement as the Buffalo faithful anticipated another growth year in the right direction, however a couple of late issues arose and have shocked the team to it's core. It was made aware to management that they would not ba able to begin the season with their current roster as they would be over the cap, unfortunately, that meant they had to ship off one of their more trusted Defensemen and career Stampeder, Brynjar Tusk. Tusk has been a staple in Buffalo and the transaction was unfortunately necessary, however it didn't end there. Viktor Marius, the superstar sniper was suspended for half the season as he was found to be using banned substances to enhance his on ice performance. The upstate New York team will have it's challenges, but they aren't worried as they still hold 3 very important strengths.

1) Buffalo will miss two of their core pieces this season, however, with the recent call up of Flacko Lagerfield, along side Connor McGregor and God McZerhl, the riches of depth continue to flow and the Stampede will be likely to not see much of a difference from last seasons performance.

2) They possess an elite goaltender and potentially the next big thing in Jordin 44

3) The Vets stay strong. The veteran presence to help the young guys is strong in buffalo. Luke Atmey, Viktor Vorkamfer, and the tandem of Walker and Metzler will be essential in the success of this team
