The commercial starts with a muffled commentator’s voice describing goals and cup winning moments throughout the seasons. One by one, from season 1 to season 54 footage of each team lifting the Challenge Cup flashes to the beat of the drums. The screen darkens and a rough manly voice (I’m pretty sure we hired him from all those car commercials) can be heard as well as silver text appears “Legends are not born.” They fade. Three new words pop up on the screen “They are made”, with the same rough voice repeating those words. They fade. Cue in highlights from the current season to the tune of dramatic music. The logos of each participating playoff team shows up briefly with their set of highlight and famous players saying generic quotes about their experience of winning. The sound of all of them blend together and a singular word is said in unison; “winning”. The music stops. It all fades to black. The SHL logo appears on screen with the text “Where legends are made”.

The commercial I've come up with for this years playoffs is going to have a huge production value and it's going to be a play on the Hunger Games. It will start with a huge wide helicopter shot of a giant frozen lake. In the middle of the lake will be a huge pile of sticks and pucks and you'll see two skaters from each team in the playoffs skating towards the pile as giant lasers shoot holes in the ice all around them. It's going to be chaos. Think the opening scene from Saving Private Ryan meets the Hunger Games on ice. The music will obviously be "Bodies"by Drowning Pool. The players will get to the middle of the ice to pick up pucks and sticks and they'll be hitting each other, taking slap shots at each other. Guys are going to fall through the ice, get hit by the lasers, etc etc. Then at the end there will be one player silhouetted against an explosion so you can't see who the last one standing is, and then it will have text over it that says, "Only one can survive it all. SHL S55 Playoffs" Fade to black. Fin.

We're going to have a fantastic series of ads that'll certainly go viral. The ad will start simply - a highlight from one of the SHL franchises involved in the postseason. Whether it will be a goal, a save, a big hit, perhaps even a fight, it really doesn't matter. At the conclusion of the highlight, we will have Jim Mora's famous "Playoff!? You talkin' about playoffs? You kiddin' me?" slammed in there. It's going to be an instant cult classic. It will run on all the major TV networks - NBC, Sportsnet, TSN, ESPN, ABC, Fox, all of them. It'll go through social media channels as well, and be promoted for the masses to consume.
This marketing campaign for the postseason will be remembered, but probably not fondly by the masses. I fully expect to be relieved from my creative director role at the conclusion of this season. ![]() RIP Dangel. See you on the other side, brother ![]() Registered singing solo you can't hear him
The commercial starts off with a black screen and silence. In the background, music starts to play softly, and increases in volume and intensity pretty hard. The song played is Amon Amarth's 'Twilight of the Thunder God'. During the intro, at the crack of the thunder, the word 'SHL PLAYOFFS HOCKEY IS HERE' slides towards us from the distance. As soon as the music kicks in, the video cuts to fast forwarded clips of players scoring goals, blocking shots and throwing hits. In rapid succession, and with a dark filter applied, the clips follow up, alternated with the the team logos on a black background. People are going to remember these playoffs and SHL hockey in general as the toughest, hardest and most metal sports event all time. An event for real men and women, played at high intensity. The music gets the blood pumping, and paired with the high velocity clips it really showcases the speed, intensity and toughness of the game we love.

The commercial will start with a black screen. You'll hear a little snippet of a play-by-play calls from a highlight goals this season, the goal horn, and the crowd cheering before it goes silent again. An inception style bwaaaaaammm plays as the words "A Battle For The Ages Is Coming" appearing on screen. More play-by-play commentary, but this time there is footage to go with it. Another BWAAAAAAMMM, but much louder this time, with the words "But Only One Team Will Win" on the screen.
The next part is really going to use up a lot of the SHL's advertising budget. The commercial will now show aerial footage of each of the teams' respective cities. If the city is on the water, then we will have a giant CG star player from that team emerging from the water like godzilla or a kaiju or something. Like a 500 foot tall, fully dressed hockey player coming out of the water. If the city is not near water, then the player will erupt from the ground. Then the final shot of the commercial will be the different players charging at each other, destroying the cities beneath them, since they are giant. And there you have it. ![]() Graphic Graders Anaheim Co-GM / Graphics Grader
It will begin as a black screen and slowly fade into the clip from the Wizard of Oz where the lion growls over and over. We'll loop him saying 'courage' 'courage', 'i've got courage' all being looped over the growl. SFP logo will start to appear on screen fading in along with restless fans screaming and yelling. The goal horn will ring loud as the fans will begin chanting 'pride, pride pride, pride'. Simba from The Lion King will appear on the screen, the scene where he is trying to roar. This will be fitted into every other scene showing a highlight goal from the past SFP seasons. Katy Perry's ROAR will begin playing in the background getting progressively louder. Just as the refrain hits, "you're gonna hear me ROAR", Simba will roar fading out to more spectacular goals and saves from the Pride over the years. This will keep going for around 30 seconds and fade out. Fading in will be the restless fans from San Fran chanting 'We want cup' over and over and it will end with a loud lion roar before cutting to black.

Explosion. Fade to black. Begin Hans Zimmer epic ballad. Single firework. No explosion. 4 Fireworks. No explosion. Hans zimmer ballad starts to rise in tempo. 8 fireworks. 8 explosions in each teams colors. More explosions with highlights from each team looking like they are in LED lights with announcers voicing over the music. Hans Zimmer music reaches crescendo. More explosions showing the teams colliding with each other. Final drum note. Zoom way out. See explosions all over come into the shape of the Challenge Cup. Hans zimmer music fades. Rolling drum beat. BUM BUM BUMBUMBUMBUM, you know the drill. Morgan Freeman voiceover. That's right we got Morgan Freeman. "8 TEAMS. 8 Corners of North America. One cup to rule them all. " Morgan Freeman's face pops up in the same LED animation as the cup graphic. "Only one can be a champion". Cycle through the team names. Ends with a title card of "S55 SHL Playoffs". Then a fade out of "Where blood and sweat meet at the crossroads of dreams".

For some unknown reason the New Orleans Specters will be recreating the costume and dance scene from the Will Ferrell movie Semi Pro:
https://youtu.be/MBLaFjV9xTs?t=37 Head GM Joe would of course be in the sun outfit, directing all the rest of us on what we have to do. The commercial would start like the scene on Joe, panning up as he counts us in to the music. Then it would cut out to the team (and maybe some of the coaching staff) in their costumes doing the dance routine. Lil Manius would be one of the sea horses and Michael Fox would be one of the flamingos that would get close ups in the New Orleans version of the commercial. Kaspers Claude would hit Joe with the leg kick and get his praise. Then the commissioner would walk in after the song finished, very confused with what he's witnessing. He would tell us that we need to get out of the costumes and get down to the arena because we have a playoff game against the Calgary Dragons. The commercial would end with us scrambling to make it to the game on time, and the ending shot would show Jimmy Slothface still in costume, struggling to skate around. 207 words ![]() Registered Member ![]() Registered Posting Freak
I've never created or directed a commercial before, but I have watched a commercial before so I guess that makes me as qualified as anyone to make one.
My SHL playoff hype commercial would open with cut together shots of some of the playoff stars scoring goals and making big saves over the track Fortunate Son by Creedance Clearwater Revival. I'd pick that song because it's upbeat and recognizable but it's a working man's song about not being a position without earning it. I'd have voice overs of some of those same stars saying super generic stuff about how the playoffs is a different animal from the regular season and how it separates the men from the boys yada yada. I'd show some of the player's faces. In black and white for maximum dramatic effect of course. Aaron Wilson, Monkey Luffy, Tony Pepperoni, Ola Wagstrom, Jimmy Slothface, Tibuk Soonika and Andreas Kvalheim would probably be the players I'd want to highlight. I think that would make for a good mix of established stars and up and coming talent without having any one team be over-represented. Next, I'd have some more scoring and highlights and the voice overs would start taking one word each to form a coherent and inspiring sentence like "this" "is" "the" "SHL" "playoffs" "time" "to" "go" "to" "work" and I'd end by flashing up the SHL logo on a black background. After that I'd cash my huge paycheck and pop some popcorn to watch the playoffs from my couch. ![]() Registered Posting Freak
This is an easy move for me. First: the song. "Grilling N*****" By Cupcakke. A bold choice to use this song, sure but if you listen the first 10 seconds you'll know why. You open up on the beat, the little "Daaan da, daaaa da" which each change in tone showing a different player. Tony Pepperoni, Jimmy Slothface, Mike Izzy, Andreas Kvalheim (two different versions of the add will run on the east and west coast featuring players there, for this example I am using the west). That will be followed by the meat of this song. The part where Cupcakke goes "GANG GANG GANG GANG GANG GANG GANG GANG". Repeat that shit eight teams and show all of the teams in the playoffs for each gang, a la with what they did in th Pitbull playoffs ad.The first line of the song doesn't need to change. "You bitches are ugly and dusty and none of y'all matter." Plays this over intercut video/photos of the eliminated teams captains looking real sad, and if they don't have a captain just their top player looking real sad. Imagine how hype it would be to see Nick Brain crying on an official SHL advertisement? The next line "money all on me, I'm feeling real flattered," the top paid players in the playoffs all back to back with some random employees making it rain on em with fat stacks. "Walk in this bitch straight dripping." After this line, you go back to the GANG GANG GANG sequence as it quietly turns off. But during this "straight dripping line zoom in on one of the players just straight up iced out. Then you go back to showing highlights during the "GANG GANG" section. The strong message, the abrasive tone of the song, it's loud, no one will be able to look away. It's exciting and hype, literally everyone will be into the playoffs. Pay me later for this idea, SHL. I'll take 5 mil.

The promos you see on tv definitely get stuck in your head as something that makes you want to watch the games. Some great ones have been created over the years that have stood out much like the one in the title of this post. If I was going to create a promo for the SHL playoffs, I think I would have to go back and use the classic from a few years ago, Turn Down For What. Recreating the music video with SHL players would be hilarious. Anyone who has not seen that video needs to look that up immediately as it's hilarious.
Having some goalies and other players smashing through the ice or rinks would be really funny to see. Plus you could see some of the more creative players dance moves on display. The song, even though it's a few years old, is still catchy as hell and would get stuck in people's minds. I think I have the perfect idea for this. As the Newfoundland Berserkers appear primed to win the President's trophy in the minors, I think our league playoff promo should be based around Jaja Ding Dong. The commercial opens with the SMJHL awards banquet, and Will Ferrell/Rachel McAdams take the stage. They start singing Jaja ding dong, and all the attendees not from NL start having Vietnam style flashbacks of the S55 SMJHL streams. Then, an all out brawl takes place between all of the J teams, with Jaja ding dong playing in the background. Fade out, and you see "The SMJHL playoffs, coming to a tv near you". It'll be in the style of the 50th anniversary NFL commercial from last season where the ball drops off the top of the cake and a full game breaks out. Pretty good idea if you ask me, HO should hire me as a marketing director or something.
