Now this is how a mock would go if everyone subscribed to my system, with some players shifting a little because of position. Obviously, everyone doesn’t subscribe to my system, so take this with a grain of salt, but let’s give it the ol’ college try.
1. Tampa Bay Barracuda select RD Luc Blouin This has got to be as close to set in stone as possible. DrunkenTeddy is a site owner, has a huge bank, and has been earning very well with Blouin. Could a few players from this draft class end up with better careers? Sure, but Blouin is as by far the safest pick here, someone who will have a hell of a career, with very little risk of busting. I don’t see any way this won’t be the pick at first overall. 2. San Francisco Pride select RD Gregory Goode San Fran will make the first major decision of the draft. I think from looking at their roster there’s no way they don’t go defense here. I suppose there could be something to say about this being a defense heavy draft, so taking a top-tier forward here and grabbing a defenseman at their 2nd round could be a move, but with their roster, I’d probably look defense on both picks to tell you the truth. With San Fran on the clock they’ll have to decide between re-create and first gen. I’m putting Goode here, but if they decide to go another way, it could easily be Sivart. 3. Baltimore Platoon select C Dogwood Maple Maple leads this class on media pieces since creation with 15. That’s gotta be really attractive to GMs. I know in the Rich and Luke podcast, they were talking about the induction of rookie tasks, and now the bank accounts of rookies are a bit unreliable at predicting the future of these players. Will they keep earning money to become the best they can be, or will the essentially only spend their contract money? I don’t think there’s any risk of that with Maple, who is a great pick at 3 and the first first gen off the board. 4. Baltimore Platoon select RW Nike Kickz Jr This is a pick that Baltimore traded for, so clearly they have an idea of what they want here. I, having no contact with BAP, couldn’t tell you what that is. By looking at their roster, I’d definitely say they should grab a winger, but since position doesn’t really matter in the sim, if they want a forward corps of 12 centers, that’s actually viable. By picking a winger, you’re getting whatever amount of TPE a center would have invested in faceoffs invested elsewhere, so it is a net gain for a team so deep down the middle. I could also see a Sivart pick here, but they look fairly young on defense already. I’d also say that since they grabbed Maple at 3rd overall, putting an egg in the recreate basket and one in the first gen basket is better than doubling up. But that’s just my 2 cents. 5. Seattle Argonauts select RD Basil Sivart If there’s one thing Seattle won’t need it’s a center, which is why I have them passing on Blanchet, the BPA by KUSP. They’ll be getting their GM, Kermit Murphy, for free and he’s a center. Likewise, their co-GM Dee Centerman IV is also a center and will probably be up in the SHL next season. Mew Two would be another possible pick here, if Seattle would rather grab a winger, but their roster pool has twice as many forwards than defensemen, so I think Sivart is the wise pick. 6. Toronto North Stars select RW Mew Two This pick is definitely tripping me up the most, I don’t one super pressing need for Toronto, but I also think the holes at winger might be just enough to justify grabbing Mew Two instead of Blanchet, the BPA (again). As I said earlier, Mew Two is a great prospect, so it’s hard to argue with this pick. 7. Buffalo Stampede select C Noel Blanchet Buffalo is a team that’s always a major threat, at least with the league being the way it is right now. I think at this point there’s no way they don’t go BPA, especially with another first coming up at the end of the round. Blanchet finally finds his home at 7th overall. 8. Tampa Bay Barracuda select LW Jonny Tsunami I think the Barracuda go with Tsunami. They seem like a team that has prospects and young players at every position, so I definitely could see a BPA scenario, and with their first pick being a defenseman, I could see their second being used to shore up their forward supply. 9. Atlanta Inferno select RW Friedensrich Hundertwasser It’s kinda crazy that I don’t have the TPE leader of the class off the board until 9th overall. And it’s nothing against Hundertwasser, he’s been a horse in gaining TPE. I could see him going earlier, but on my mock, as is I’ll have him at 9th. It’s actually a 3-way tie for best player by KUSP at this pick, but with Atlanta picking again at 11, I think they grab the forward here and get a defenseman shortly. 10. Calgary Dragons select RD Richard LaFleur Calgary is an aging team. They still have a great roster, but they only have 2 defensemen that are not in regression, so even though they’ll be getting #A-Rye Izzy with their 2nd rounder, I think they also go defense here. Especially with the recently announced retirement of Bernik Vrzala. 11. Atlanta Inferno select RD Bean Beanman A bit of a reach, KUSP wise at least, but Atlanta has a history of selecting Anchorage players, and Beanman won’t last until their second round pick. Beanman is not a bad pick, however, and should become a very important piece for Atlanta. 12. Manhattan Rage select RD Narboza Manyhands A quick look over Manhattan’s roster paints a clear picture that JayWhy prefers drafting first gens, which I think is pretty cool. I also think JayWhy is pretty cool. Manyhands and Boyle both fit the bill here, but I’ll go with Manyhands since it seems Manhattan is a little lighter defensively than offensively. 13. Texas Renegades select LD Bjorn Jakobsen I think it’s between Jakobsen and Boyle at 13th, and Texas already has 3 LW prospects. Their only 3 prospects at the time of writing. So I think they’ll select BPA Bjorn Jakobsen. 14. New Orleans Specters select RW Pavel Jeziak Like Calgary, New Orleans will also have a Co-GM defender heading their way in the second round, this time it’s Jean-Locke Zidane. With an already pretty strong defensive team, I think they definitely go with a forward here. There are a definitely guys with better resumes than Jeziak, but you’ve gotta reach to get your guy, and Leppish’s last player was on NOLA. While maybe a bit lagging behind some of the rest of the class, there’s something to be said about the resume of players under Leppish’s belt. 15. Winnipeg Aurora select RD Finn Von Murphenstein I’d say Winnipeg’s most pressing need right now is a center. Granted I haven’t looked into their wingers to see if anyone has built into faceoffs, but from a look at their roster, they have one aging player and one prospect up the middle, that’s all. Buuuuuuuuuut I also noticed in the Aurora rebranding that Von Murphenstein helped with the process. Maybe I’m over thinking things, but I’m sure that helped warm both parties up to each other. Combine that with the fact that in this 18 team system, if you want your guy, you’re gonna have to take him when you have the chance, I think there’s a decent shot that Von Murphenstein goes here. 16. Buffalo Stampede select LW Nikolaj Boyle Boyle is definitely BPA and even though I have Buffalo going with a forward with 7th overall as well, I think if anyone is going to double dip to get the best haul possible, it’s a team that’s built as strongly as Buffalo. 17. Chicago Syndicate select RD Billy Brooks Chicago, like Atlanta is to Anchorage, seems to be a place where a lot of Newfoundland alumni end up. And let’s be honest, even if he weren’t a Newfoundland player, how could Chicago pass on the 2nd place TPE earner in the class at 17th overall? Chicago is a deep team, so BPA and a Newfoundland connection means that Brooks is the no-brainer pick. 18. New England Wolfpack select LW Yan Dolff Wow that’s a lot of prospects. I can’t see any reason New England wouldn’t go BPA, so this pick has three different left wingers I could see it being: Dolff, Sharpe, and Danny C. Ultimately, I think Dolff’s bank put him above the others, ever so slightly. So that’s my mock. This is definitely one of the best classes I’ve ever been a part of. Shoutouts to Danny C, Hunter Sharpe, Roboute Guilliman, Ole Olson, Brian Davenport, Puddles O’Duck, Jesse Trudeau, and so many more who could easily be first rounders depending on how things shake out. Seriously, this mock writing was AWFUL just because of how much talent there is in this class. Thanks for reading! Great articles Keenan, it's been a great draft class to be part of so far, definitely looking forward to battling each other over the next 10 or 15 seasons.
