S73 PT#1: Friendly Advice

Option 1

I would choose the country of Spain because with my French knowledge, I could parse out enough Spanish to understand what’s going on and because Spain has too rich of a sporting tradition to not have an IIHF team, so I would love to help spread my love of hockey to the youths of Spain. I would run it in a way that would give the people that come the idea of each aspect of the game. The first 2 days would be dedicated to offense, the second 2 days defense, the third 2 days goalies, and then the last day would have a practice match to get the people used to an actual match. Then I would give them all certificates saying that they understand enough of hockey to at least play amongst themselves. I will get every single important basic thing to know about hockey into their brains so that even if they never go pro they can at least have a good time with their friends.

OPTION 2 - Being Forward with the Forwards

Written Task: Tell me what your player wants the forwards on their team to do to help them out. If your player is a forward, tell me what you do to help your defensemen succeed.

Grogu has always believed that, as a forward, it is still always super important to have a strong defensive game. He trained himself to be a counter-attacking forward - as a centerman, it meant that the foundation of his game was strong defensive awareness combined with incredible speed. By playing deep defensively and backchecking hard to create turnovers, he could then transition to offense and create opportunities that way. Because of his focus on defensive responsibility, Grogu was awarded the Jeff Dar Trophy for best two-way forward an unprecedented four straight times. He often led the league in takeaways while also putting up points and contributing to the success of the Calgary Dragons. When he played in Montreal, he played a role which was primarily offensive, and while he did put up some gaudy numbers, his defensive stats suffered. Now that he is playing for the defending champs, he hopes that he can continue to play a strong role as a top defensive player to help the Aurora repeat!

OPTION 2

All Jack St. Clair wants from his Edmonton Blizzard team mates is to get open so he can find them with the puck. Forwards, defenseman, goalie, it doesn't matter. Get open. St. Clair will find them with a nice pass and sets up scoring chances all day!. Best way to help out your defensemen is to control the puck in the offensive zone and keep putting it behind the opponents goalie and into the net. As someone who came up through the systems playing strictly offensive, at the SHL level it takes a little bit more than scoring to be successful. So Jack worked on getting stronger, positioning, and awareness. Now he is like a third defenseman out there helping out all over the ice. Like I said though, best defense is a good offense. JSC will strip opponents of the puck and take it back up the ice helping out the D by keeping the puck out of the D zone.

Option 2

Dusty Rhodes plays a certain role on the New Orleans Spectres. Although he is supposed to be an enforcer and protect his teammates it doesn't seem like this is what the team has as his role. he still tries to play a physical game and he has upped his defensive stats in an effort to help the Spectres back end. If he can take someone out of a play it helps his defense have one less player to account for when they're defending the goal. He is pretty adept at stick checking as well as checking and hitting to knock people off the puck all of which is a huge help to the defense. There's alot of young defenders on the team so he also tries to be very talkative and call out what he sees as well in an effort to help the young guys. And if he can perhaps kick someone's ass in a fight it certainly fires up his defense who tend to then up their physical game as well.

Exceptional performance in international play is a massive part of the Murphy family legacy. After his father Tig was part of 4 of Ireland's legendary five consecutive IIHF gold medals in the S40s, Kermit Murphy himself has won two IIHF golds with Germany after claiming citizenship through his mother's nationality. As a result, it was no surprised that the fledgling hockey nation of Spain reached out to Kermit to initially seek advice multiple facets of the IIHF experience from grassroots development to recruitment, to eventually developing a powerhouse program. While the implants are still in a very early stage, Murphy's insight has proven extremely valuable to the Spanish hockey federation, who have hired Murphy officially as a consultant. There is talk that with Murphy's career in its later stages, a more significant and permanent role could be in the works that would see him work to bring a new hockey power into play.

Brooklyn Physt has done everything she can to attempt to forge her own path into hockey, in order to stand out against the backdrop of her father.

So far, non of that has happened aside from her own style of play. The same Kelowna Knights drafted her, and the same Toronto North Stars drafted her.

But there is one place she cannot follow him to. Austria. Not too long ago the nation of Austria had its own IIHF team join the hallowed ranks of the best of the best, before being bounced out by an emergent French hockey programme.

Her contact got ahold of her while she was visiting her relatives at one of the many ski lodges the own and operate just outside Fugging. From there she travelled to put on a programme for young Austrians looking to make a mark in the future. Skating, passing, and the importance of team play were the highlights of this 10 day run aimed at pushing the young ones who will be looking to travel all around Europe as they develop their skills.

In spite of hiding this from her parents, this opportunity has been a chance for Brooklyn to showcase her own way of doing things and capability of earning things without her father’s help.

pt pass

“The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. ... There are neither beginnings nor endings to the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.”

sebastien regazzoni is a very lazy person when it comes to travelling. he'd rather not travel across the world to hold this camp, so it was a very easy decision for him to make when asked to hold this camp. he just crossed the border into liechtenstein. liechtenstein is a very small country, but it is sandwiched between two countries that have won gold at IIHF level in switzerland (regazzoni's agent and hopefully future hall of famer mitchell van der heijden was on that swiss team that won gold) and austria. regazzoni believes that the fact that liechtenstein is surrounded by iihf countries, and having another country in germany close by, means that it is a country full of untapped potential that is ripe for the picking of future simulation hockey league players. he hopes that his camp helps to produce the next generation of talented hockey players from unassigned nations.

Ace Lightning has been contacted to run a one week hockey camp in the lovely country of Jamaica. After watching the movie Cool Running, Ace actually contacted Jamaica himself, thinking it would be cool to have a joint bobsled and hockey camp, if the price was right. Turns out, it was not. They were not interested so he had to organize it all himself and do it for free. Sad!

This joint bobsled and hockey camp would run with a group of ragtag individuals who have no hockey sense, as well as a group of ragtag individuals with no bobsled sense, but through rigorous montages and positive attitudes, they would come together and become real athletes. But remember, it’s the friendships you make along the way. At the end, every person would compete in a mini bobsled tournament and a mini hockey tournament, and the winners would get to go to the olympics.

Running a camp like this would be very interesting for John Hopoate who is a centre for the Inferno from Atlanta, a team in the Simulation Hockey League. He would love to do this in his off season and would absolutely choose Australia and the whole South Pacific region to do things like this in because that is where he is from and he would like to be able to travel back there in the off season and if it is paid for by some big wigs in the IIHF then even better. He can double the trip up with some fishing and camping trips with some mates and just have a great time all off season before getting back to Atlanta and starting a new season in the Simulation Hockey League. In Australia he would probably just mostly do things in Queensland and just skip New South Wales. They can sort their own stuff out.

Option 2

As a defenseman in ice hockey, I understand the critical role forwards play in supporting the defensive unit. While our primary responsibility is to protect our own net, forwards can greatly assist us in various ways, enhancing our overall defensive effectiveness.

Firstly, forwards can contribute to defensive efforts by backchecking diligently. When opponents initiate an attack, forwards need to quickly transition from offense to defense, applying pressure on the opposing forwards and disrupting their offensive flow. This reduces the burden on defensemen, allowing us to maintain better defensive positioning.

Additionally, forwards can aid in the defensive zone by providing support along the boards. When the puck is battled for in the corners or along the walls, forwards can engage and help regain possession. By doing so, they relieve us defensemen of the physical demands of these battles, allowing us to maintain a strong defensive posture.

Lastly, responsible defensive play by forwards extends to shot-blocking, limiting the number of attempts on our goaltender. Forwards' dedication to these aspects of the game eases our defensive responsibilities and strengthens the overall team defense.

OPTION 2 - Being Forward with the Forwards

Written Task: Tell me what your player wants the forwards on their team to do to help them out. If your player is a forward, tell me what you do to help your defensemen succeed.

Well the obvious answer would to be score more points! Won't have to play defense if we're just ahead on the scoreboard by a mile! But in reality like any good offense time of possession is the key to helping your defense! If our forwards can consistently keep the puck across the blue line and in the opponents territory, it will naturally help keep the Defensemen fresh and ready for when they have to do their part. While scoring quick is flashy, wearing down the opposing team by consistently keeping them on their back feet will provide dividends as the game inches onward. Anytime the puck crosses into your territory, and every shot the opposing team get is just another chance for them to score. At the end of the day if the other team can't score then you really only need 1 offensive score to get the win! Winning 1-0 is still a win and that's why Forwards should help out us defensemen!
