We put so much time into this site, and you don't have to approve of the decisions we make, but I, and the members of head office, do deserve to be able to take time out and not worry about moderating squabbles from time to time.
I mean, that's fine, you do you. You knew going into this role that you'd have people that think differently and criticize the way you do things. I should be the last person whose opinion matters, I don't have a player and I barely post anymore. Sometimes being dumb is fun.

Sometimes, being dumb at someone else's expense is honestly just hurtful and you still have to accept that people may not enjoy you hurting them. You know? Just because okay, yeah, I shouldn't care what you think, doesn't mean I don't, and it doesn't make me soft, or weak, to not enjoy being made fun of. Can I just ask you to please stop, like would that matter? Would it matter if I said "hey, I've had a pretty shit couple of days and I've been made fun of by a lot of people not for my actual decisions but just for the way I talk, for caring about things other people don't think are important, can you lay off because this is genuinely bumming me out?"

I don't know how to get through to people who think it's fun to make other people sad. I just don't. I'm just telling you now, your humor often comes at the expense of somebody else's unhappiness. If that's the kind of person you want to be, as you said - you do you.

I couldn't agree more with having a life outside of this community, and I don't think anyone doubts the amount of effort HO and others put into all of this & the fact you deserve time outside of moderating the forums. That being said, if there's an issue with a punishment thread getting "out of control" then maybe comments shouldn't be allowed in them to begin with. Has there ever been a reasonable discussion in the comments of one? Maybe the punishment itself stay locked from the beginning and create some sort of "daily discussion" thread in the general section. Just an idea, because in my 10 years here I don't think there's been anything productive in the comments of a punishment thread.

I actually thought the dinner thing was a bit of fun ribbing, but yeah if it's making you actually upset I'd have stopped (and will stop). Sorry.

this thread is evidence that the site is very much capable of constructive discussion. If we want to focus on two dudes who are barely on here instead of the dozens of people providing actual opinions, that's a whole separate issue

So there's an argument to not locking threads because HO is hungry?

Honestly I wasn't even really hungry I just wanted to spend time with my daughter on her last day of spring break. They aren't young forever and all that.

But I'm not sure there's a better option (though I am absolutely all ears as to what one might be). GM salary fines are not enough of a deterrent - many GMs would be happy to pay half their salary if it means keeping a player from appearing on the FA list. And a pick penalty or a cap fine impacts not only the one player, but the entire team. I don't know if there's a good solution there.

A pick penalty or cap fine I don't think really impacts the whole team more than removing the player does, at worst they both remove one player. I do think a cap fine at this particular junction would be better as at the very minimum if the team needs to shed cap space, they would look to a trade to do it, hopefully meaning all players involved find themselves on a team that fits them, and importantly all players can find themselves a roster period.

If he had been FA at the time, I'm sure Carnage would have received several offers, likely from good teams, but those teams will have filled that spot by now. At least if it was a cap fine, a trade could have been facilitated for a swap of players or something if needed and everyone still has a roster spot. If TBB could keep Carnage at his contract (in this case 5 mil), with a cap penalty of 5 mil it would put them over the cap, so someone would have to go but a trade is much more amicable for the player than forced FA, and it might instead be someone who is happier to be going to another team.

While it's not exactly the same, back in S60 my old player Luca Veccelli was signed to an IFA contract. I was burnt out but I still checked the site from time to time and read my pings. The rules were supposed to be that in an IFA bidding thread, you have to tag the user. I wasn't and I never saw the thread, which had I seen it I would have stopped the bidding. By the time I noticed it, the season was almost started. It hadn't though, so technically I could still opt out of the IA contract, but there was no point in even trying because at that point rosters were going to be full up anyways. Being thrust into FA that late into the offseason (or even into the season) feels really demoralizing because there's just no options. A few teams could probably make it work but the ones most likely to have space are bad teams, and aside from just cap space the roles on the team are going to be jammed with an extra player. The prospect of going to FA at this point in the season really sucks.

How old? Mine turns 5 in June. The days are long but the years are short.

@Sizz, I know it might not help, but I wrote you a poem.

I don't have a team yet
Technically neither do you
I figure you like Tampa, but
I would sign you when I do

Tamper? Ban this man.

Perhaps we could consider the ineffective use of enjambment ban-worthy as well.
