I think this kinda raises an issue with the whole HO hiring head gms but co gms are still around. Why are they allowed to make moves for the team if HO can hire a new head gm to go and do their own thing and forget about whatever the old co was doing in the meantime. I don’t think HO should hire head gms unless they absolutely have to for the team

I think the inevitable result of this discussion is that there's no overwhelming right answer which means nothing will change. While I don't agree with that result, that's how it is to me. Either HO ties the hands of a team who now can't do anything during a potentially critical time like the draft or Free Agency, or we see things like your point where the Co/Interim GM makes a bunch of decisions that may go against their permanent replacement's plan. As for just not hiring a new GM and letting the Co step in, that gets into rough waters as typically GMs have their own freedom to pick their support staff. Changing it to automatic Co-GM succession means that HO might end up with someone they don't approve of or didn't vote on getting the job, which circumvents their control and oversight of the position.

What that means and whether or not that's worth it is another discussion.

I think the inevitable result of this discussion is that there's no overwhelming right answer which means nothing will change. While I don't agree with that result, that's how it is to me. Either HO ties the hands of a team who now can't do anything during a potentially critical time like the draft or Free Agency, or we see things like your point where the Co/Interim GM makes a bunch of decisions that may go against their permanent replacement's plan. As for just not hiring a new GM and letting the Co step in, that gets into rough waters as typically GMs have their own freedom to pick their support staff. Changing it to automatic Co-GM succession means that HO might end up with someone they don't approve of or didn't vote on getting the job, which circumvents their control and oversight of the position.

What that means and whether or not that's worth it is another discussion.
