Texas getting more outlaws (2X Media SHL Draft)

![]() SHL GM Quebecer trying to make goalie TPE matter in Texas
In the S67 SHL Draft, we saw Texas get five new players in the first three rounds.
They got Hodor and Pawter Meowski in the first round, Finn Brandt in the second and Trap Zelenock and Alex Phaneuf in the third. The Renegades had the third overall pick when they steal one spot to Baltimore after finishing 17th in the standing with 20 victories, 44 defeats and 2 defeats in overtime. A couple of days before draft day, Texas and Los Angeles came to an agreement to trade the 3rd overall pick against the Toronto first round pick (16 overall), San Francisco second round pick (32 overall) and the first round pick of Los Angeles for next season (S69). There are some conditions to it, but you look here for it. So with the 16th pick, the Renegades pick the shudown defenseman Chris Valentine (@downer). His defensive ability really stands out and make him someone who can be trusted late in the game when we lead by one goal and need a good defensive presence. His stickhandling ability is also good for someone who doesn't like to shoot pucks. When Hodor and him will be in the SHL, Texas will have two really good defensive defender to help their goalie. He will continue to grow his game with Great Falls for the next couple of seasons. With their own second round pick, Texas got a German gritty left winger, Marton Diehm (@"jfett85"). He likes to play a two way game, but with adding a grinder style so the other team doesn't love when he's the ice. He got some offensive skills that he doesn't have the opportunity to show in the third line last season, but we think with a more offensive role he can make a surprise. He doesn't have the best shot, but he's a complete player that will fit with the offensive player in the system. The 32nd overall pick from the trade with Los Angeles get us right defenseman Heath Nicol (@Beaty). A good two way defenseman that can skate well, pass the puck and play a good defensive game when needed. With Valentine being more defensive, we needed someone with a little bit more offensive and even if he put up the least point in his team, he played on the third line with no time in powerplay, but we saw some potential in him. With the first of their four third round pick at the 44th pick, we witness two brothers taking back to back picks, with Davos being picked at 43rd with Baltimore, and now Texas takes Lazos Otasrob (@Arkonius) right after. Even if Lazos looks like Jordie Benn, he plays a very different style of play. He likes to take control of the puck and keep it in the offensive zone and give his team some scoring chance. He's not afraid to shoot the puck on the net, so with him and Nicol, those two defenders will bring some offense in Texas. Three picks later, Russian forward Andrei Nikitin (@LightningDragon) heard his name to join the team. From the scouting report, he likes to play an all around game, doesn't sacrifice his defensive play to get points and although he's not the fastest skater, he reads the play really well so he's often in the right place. Another time three picks later, Texas picks a future backup to Dionne, when they choose Sea Jebus (@Theseajebus) at the 50th rank. The goalie has no weaknesses, but no strength either. He's a complete player that have place to growth and be a good complement to a first goalie. With their last pick in the draft at the 64th rank, the team was happy to give a chance to a friend of the management, Sam Squanch (@EricNCSU). The defenseman love to be physical and pass the puck. The 40th overall pick in the S67 SMJHL needs to work on his shot, positioning and physical attributes. So, this all means that the Texas Renegades drafted four defenseman, two left wing and one goalie. So that's seven players to add to the six of last year's draft that will battle for a job in three-four seasons. This will help the future of the team who are in the middle of a reconstruction. Nice to have a bunch of new prospects and make us hopeful for a better future for the team. ![]() SHL GM SHL GM
