Quote:Written Task: You're on your end of the year break! What does your player do with this time? Do they celebrate any holidays at this time of year? Who with? Do you travel to be with family or friends? Looking back on your past season in the SHL, will you have lots to say when you see your loved ones? Will they be excited about what you've accomplished this season or will there be a few awkward conversations? (150+ words)

There is no break for the busy Spack Jarrow. Nobody is really sure how he does it, but Spack manages to not only participate as a successful professional hockey player but also as a professional soccer player in the SSL. In fact, he and his team just recently he won the League Cup as Hollywood FC had a stellar season with Jarrow as Centerback. All this while also playing Left Wing for the Winnipeg Aurora of the SHL. There isn't often a time that Jarrow isn't either on the ice or on the pitch.

However, the rare times that he finds himself with some spare downtime, he prefers to spend it on his monstrous 439 foot ship, the Treasure Pleasure that is almost a city in itself with all of its amenities. Jarrow hasn't settled down yet and still enjoys the adventures that a rich athlete finds oneself in. There is plenty of time for a family after retirement.

Player Prompt

It is that time once again - the end of another calendar year, and nearly coinciding with the end of the SMJHL season. If this were last season, Tummy Hurts would be flying home to his family in Finland, luggage packed full of food and goodies he has found across North America - the items he has found to hurt his tummy the very most. This season, however, Tummy is fully engaged in a heated battle in the playoffs, as his Newfoundland Berserkers take on the Regina Elk in the first round. Still, Tummy is feeling the holiday spirit, and is looking forward to celebrating the season with his teammates in Newfoundland. Tummy bakes his favourite Christmas dishes, and is in charge of making the team turkey - the secret, of course, being in the basting. Tummy is also looking forward to the end of the playoffs - hopefully after raising the Four Star Cup - for the opportunity to reconnect with his family and share the stories of his first full season in the SMJHL, and his first as the starting goaltender of the Newfoundland Berserkers.

Something happened on the day he died. Spirit rose a metre and stepped aside.
Somebody else took his place, and bravely cried. I’m a blackstar, I’m a blackstar.

User Prompt – Written Task – 171 words
Some things that have given me great joy this year have been watching my two girls grow into their personalities and passions. My oldest daughter, who is 9, has embraced dance and killed it at her recital. She is taking lyrical, hip-hop, and ballet. My youngest is five and doing tap and ballet dance, but she’s doing gymnastics as well. We have somehow evaded my children, knowing that Santa is a societal fabrication. Seeing how they are still just eating the magic of Christmas up has been a wonderful experience.

From a personal passion perspective, it’s no secret that I am a die-hard hockey fan. My team has been immensely successful, I’ve been to five games in person where I was able to watch my team win, and I have tickets to the upcoming Winter Classic at Fenway in about two weeks. The Bs sit on top of the league standings, and I hope they’re able to ride that momentum into the second half of the year and throughout the postseason.

Player Prompt

As a very recent member of the Chicago Syndicate, Kev Kevens will go with the flow and see what's going on with his new teammates during the holidays. There have been rumours that @James Truong will be hosting a cozy, friendly, and festive holiday party for the team which should be a great way to celebrate. If he's lucky with scheduling, Kevens might also be able to spend time with his old San Francisco Pride or Quebec City Citadelle teammates before everyone goes their separate ways to visit their families. Of course he will also be looking forward to spending time with his own family even though the three hockey families that have been built up over the years are equally important to him. Most of the time will be spent baking holiday treats, doing jigsaw puzzles, and warming up with hot chocolate after cold days outside. The underlying message of the holiday season is to spend time with the people who are important to you.

Player Prompt

Sven will be celebrating Christmas this year with his family back home in Sweden. When he gets a chance, which sadly isn't often nowadays, to celebrate a holiday in Sweden he goes for it. Bringing his wife along even though she's not very excited about the cold. Boston does get cold winters but Sweden is on another level of cold.

There's not too much hockey talk at the family table anymore. Mostly because it's all been talked about before and after 10+ professional seasons the excitement has worn off. It's just like any other everyday event or job. What usually comes up is only talks about playoffs and how things are looking for the coming season. Not a lot of success has come Sven's way, and as he's getting up there in age it's almost time to think about retirement. It's still some time off, as Sven still has a lot of juice and willpower left in him!

Ricky Koivu spent his time off on break with his brothers: Paul, Tommi, Wide Peepo Happy 3, Jolmi and Binko. Several Hamilton affiliated players, namely B Jobin, Manny Calavera, Tommy Westbrook but this time i upd, Devin Basher, Aleksander Iskandrov and Yngve Simonsson all joined in on the fellas Christmas/New Year's break, where they rented out a winter cottage to spend a few weeks there. They partook in several activities of winter fun, such as reading Christmas carols to each other at night. Tommy Westbrook but this time I upd and B Jobin cuddled around the fireplace which was really cute. Yngve Simonsson was drunkenly making several inappropriate jokes that resulted in Jolmi and Binko Koivu having to cut his presence short and escort him to bed while he protested that he's all good. Wide Peepo Happy 3, Basher and Calavera made Christmas cookies, although Basher ended up being the only one who took it seriously, while the other two made the most inappropriately shaped cookies they could. Meanwhile, Tommi and Iskandrov were making fun of Ricky and Paul Koivu for being French, to which Ricky replied "ok dude" and Paul replied "this is not a good bit". Fun times were had by all the Steelhawks and Steelhawk affiliated players, who are raring to go back into the season after their fun time off. (224 words)

Answering for the player prompt:

Vaseline Podcalzone's holiday break will certainly be a great time. There is a lot to cheer for in the Podcalzone household. Another year in Seattle, a huge Challenge Cup victory, and the Argonauts are looking as solid as can be. The Christmas cheer just seems contagious at a time like this. As for Podz, he's playing some great hockey right now, and the vibes on the ice are great. Even Liam Slate is looking as happy as can be at the team Christmas party.

As for off the ice, Podz and family are having a nice big family reunion in Seattle! Usually Podz will only get the chance to see the fam when he flies back home, but this time around, the family is coming to Seattle to greet him. That alone has to be the best Christmas present that Podz could ever ask for. After all, as the great Vin Diesel once said, all you need is family.

I mean, this all depends on how far the Toronto North Stars are going to get in the post season this year, and whether or not they can finally lift the Challenge Cup over their head after what feels like a very long time for the franchise. I think the first person that the cup would be handed to would obviously be Harry Carpet. If that can happen then Magnus can retire a happy man. If not then I guess he either sticks around another year or goes and retires without a cup, like many other players end up doing after a long time. The FHM gods are fickle though, and even being one of the top four teams in the league is no guarantee that the team will make it far in the post season matches. Other than that Magnus has had a pretty good year - getting quite close to his best year even though he's much older and slower nowadays.

August Von Hecht is early in his career and would normally travel to see family. Thing is, family are back home in Frankfurt, Germany right now. Luckily, the SHL season has a lengthy Christmas break, ending with an outdoor game in some pre selected place. Pitting usually rival teams together in some kind of throwback jersey. This season, there is not one for the SMJHL. Meaning no event for AVH to attend around New Years Day in North America.

In Germany, there are many different things to do. But for August, staying with family for gifts and dinner is more his speed at home. Leaving his rave partying to the New Years party with the Anchorage Armada team when they travel to Vegas. Beautiful Turkeys, Hams, Stuffings, and more galore adorn the Von Hecht table and the beer flows a plenty. Warm sweaters and sleighrides to relax whilst people dressed as Krampus chase naughty children down the street.

I always go back to the United Kingdom during my end of year break! It's good to catch up with family and it's good to discuss hockey with a lot of people that don't usually discuss the sport! My family and friends only watch the sport to see me play so it's good when I'm with them to discuss what they are watching on the screen. We talk about my highlights from the season, some of the rivalries between teams and players and the many storylines that are playing out around the league! In just those short few days with family I get them entirely caught up for the 2nd half of the season. And while I wish they would watch more than just my games, however I'm really happy that my family is supportive of my career and they can at least humor me when I come home for a quick holiday to visit!

User Prompt

This year was a lot of small victories for me personally and for me and BW together. Nothing too huge happened that is a total life changer but little things do start to add up. Both of us got raises at our jobs and that's kind of snowballed into smaller victories elsewhere as we have a little more money now. We're getting a new vehicle for the first time since we've been together, we're both happy with our jobs, at least most days, and it's just been a good growing year after an awful 2021 for both of us. I also think taking an extended break from SHL during the middle of the year helped put me in a better mindset when I returned to have the drive to go through another player again. I think there's also been some relationships created this year that have helped me potentially with future projects, future careers, and maybe future needs. So that has been very helpful too as they might not have directly helped me this year but they should pay big dividends in the next year or so for me and BW.
