In order to prepare for the Playoffs, the first thing the Nevada Battleborn organization did for the players was to take them to Las Vegas and bring them to the casinos. This was a test for their mental fortitude and see how they can discipline themselves. Many players like Yuri Boyka III were generally drawn to the casino tables but needed a slap here and there to prevent them from succumbing to their temptations. At last, not one soul played anything there and the mission was a success. Next thing the organization did to get the players ready for the playoffs was bring them to the swimming pool. Many had tears of joy upon hearing the word "pool" but little did they know that it was a training ground. The players had to submerge themselves underwater and then jump onto the edges. This was to train their physicality and build explosiveness for their legs. This will hence translate to faster acceleration on the ice. The last thing the Nevada orgnization did to prepare the players for playoffs was to play practice games against SHL teams. This was to show them, their skills at their current level is subpar and they need to have that mamba mentality to continue to train and become the best version of themselves.

Our team did what winners do..... we rented a yacht and took the whole team to Monaco for some clubbing, swimming, drinking, partying and gambling. I mean it worked for OBJ & the Giants so well when they went to Miami, why wouldn't we follow suit? The boys loaded up their speedo's and gold chains so that we could show off to the bourgeois and proletariat class. Surely there was no way that this seemingly endless supply of funds would run out for a professional athlete. Its never happened before in history, has it? Yes, some may argue that getting drunk, partying and losing copious amounts of money does the exact opposite of what one needs headed into a playoff run, but I beg to differ. When you realize you've got no chance to make it to the end, what better way to build team morale than to risk getting banished from a country, arrested and possibly making the interpol list? Many great memories were made and had, but remember.... what happens in Monaco, stays in Monaco!

Ottawa Highlanders took a trip into the mountains to train their bodies and mindset. Trying to improve their skills by practicing on actual real ice as we all work on our weaknesses and improve our strength. Frenchie and Pyro give them motivation because while it does look bleak we must try and have fun out there. So the players jump on the ice and practice with each other while singing away their worries and speak courageous words to one another. Demir being the captain setups some strategy plans on how they maneuver against their opponents. Reviewing plays what work and what didn’t work. The team spent a day attacking the goalies to get them moving and able to dodge the bullet while grappling the pucks so they can decrease losses. Demir speaks privately with the rookies telling them what to the expect for the playoffs and give them advice on how to proceed.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

The main focus of the playoff preparations for the Highlanders is simple, being able to get every single player in top form, even the janitor is being expected to keep the arena extra clean. The environment around the team is a reflection of the team itself so it would make sense to keep it all tidy. We are working hard on our defensive game especially with all of our units, it’s a bit unusual but sometimes stuff gets thrown onto the ice and we have to dodge it like a game of dodgeball to test our reflexes, it’s actually helped progress my stick handling ability a lot more than I thought and also contributes to the balance aspect of the game as you always have to keep your head on the ice, somehow these weird workouts actually seem to be doing something for everyone. My line seems to be in sync a ton now.

The San Diego Tidal went to the beach to do some beach volleyball, surf, a few summer drinks and chilling with a bath sun (don't forget the sunscreen) at the end of the season to relax a bit. After that, the players are going to the training center to workout for the playoff run. It's the first playoff of the entire team, so all the players need to stay focus on the training to try to get a good first playoff race. Video training, on ice training, workouts in the musculation room. Everything needs to be done for the first playoffs for the team. And for the first round, they play against their rivals, the Nevada Battleborn. So, the team needs to be ready physically and mentally prepared for that playoff race. Also, the rookies got another training to learn how to handle yourself during the playoffs, since their coach doesn’t want the rookies to lose control of their cool.

The preparation for the first round of the playoffs starts by finishing during the last week of the regular season, because you want to enter the playoffs with momentum and knowing your team can get the job done. We already knew a long time ago that we would start the playoffs at home, which mean we would not need to travel somewhere else between our last game of the regular season and our first-playoff game, so, as a team, we decided to go out for a bowling night the day after our last regular season game with the objective of having an off night where we could take our mind off of all the pressure that would be coming during the next few weeks, since, by getting the most point during the regular season, we probably are the favorite to win the title this season. A day later, we got back to work and start to prepare specially for our upcoming opponents.

Taking a look back at the first two games, you would think Gina Pinard and her team, the San Diego Tidals did not prepare at all for their playoff series against the Nevada Battleborn. The first game was closer than the final score would have you believe, with Nevada scoring the 5th goal in an empty net, but the second lost was just brutal. The team will have to make some adjustment to their preparation, now that they are heading back to San Diego with a 0-2 deficit in the series and could face an unfortunate quick elimination in their first series in team history. There will be fewer drills and more video coaching, because you don't lose 10-1 to a team that close to you in skill because of a few missing drills. A score like that shows a clear misunderstanding of the other team's strategy by every player of the Tidal, so the coaches will make sure that the players are really getting it for the next games.

The Whalers organization has taken a different approach than most to the upcoming playoff push. With a young, relatively raw core, the Whalers are aware that this playoff run will likely be a learning experience as the inexperienced team has a tough out against Regina.
Whalers Management has been active in trying to set the team up for success going forward. New acquisition Ville Sato-Maki will look to grow into the core of the Whalers, who will have a strong core looking to peak in the S79 season.

In the meantime, the boys have been keeping loose and trying to enjoy the moment. Lopez took the boys out to watch the PWHL season wrap up, and everyone got nice and hammered, ensuring that the team continues to foster the strong ties they have developed this season. With another year of growth in the rear view mirror, there is no telling what the Whalers can do to disrupt expectations this playoff run.
