Returning back to the topic. We saw Peyton Campeau come out and play for the Ottawa Highlanders and just in a small sample size, we can now asses him for the SHL Draft as hopefully he can use his small measure of success to lean the scouts to fall towards him.

Firstly what we observed was that his usage of his frame is the real deal, Campeau bulldozed his way to the front of the net multiple times, including the Highlanders only win in the playoffs versus the Kraken, He’s done exactly what we would expect from him, using what he does best to create a chance on the offense, his hands have gotten a lot better since before the J as he’s now a lot smoother in his deking skills which should open some eyes. We saw a much more confident player as well especially during that playoff run which we can only imagine GMs are excited about. We managed to create a player card for his play and a way to describe it.

Peyton interview and SHL talks:
We had an opportunity to talk to the man himself regarding the SHL draft upcoming in just a few weeks.

“Do you have any expectations regarding the draft?”
Not really, I know I believe I should go early and I know that’s hard to do when you’re racing against the other prospects in the pool who have a jump on me since I could only play late into the season. The goal was to build my stock the best I could by working with brands and endorsements to get my name out there.

“How did you get so many endorsements?”

Mostly from just playing like anyone, but by giving personality to what I do. I’m not some robot athlete, I have personality and I act on it and assert myself. I’m proud to be on the cover of the cereal boxes and such, everyone is different but I try to be the guy that people can recognize on the ice and to be someone to look for

“Any idea on where you might go?”
No clue, I haven’t spoken with a team yet regarding that. But me and my agent noticed the teams you selected on your chart and have taken notice of the fits that could happen there. Although we are open to wherever I can get a chance to shine. I love to travel and see new places so id love having somewhere to learn about while I live in Ottawa.

“Why should a team draft you?”

I think because I’ll give them the best I’ve got, I’m a team player at the end of the day and I wanna win games with great teammates. I’ve worked hard to get to this point in my career even with a small number of games worked, I can do even more in a full season and I promise I can show a teams return when they select me.

“What else do you think about the card and chart we made?”
I think it summarizes my game up well but there’s a lot more that I can become. I plan on being a player who wows the crowd on both sides of the ice and I want to develop into that physical forward that puts his body on the line to get the goal and to stop the offense. It’s the ultimate team player to me if I’m able to do a lot out there. That’s the easiest way to describe my game. It highlights my best traits for sure.


“You’re a big jersey fan, what’s in your collection?”
A bunch, mostly throwbacks. I personally like to wear a lot of brighter colored ones. Which ones are my favorite are a secret. My alternate Ottawa jersey is probably the best one I’ve ever worn on ice.

“What should we expect from you and Ottawa next season”
I think we’re gonna continue to build into a team that can really compete, I think it says a lot that we pushed Carolina to 6. I think it shows we play with heart as an organization even in defeat, that’s something that can’t be taught and it takes certain people to understand. In Ottawa we have that ability.

Out of character: Wow what a first season in Ottawa, to be completely honest I had no idea Ottawa even had a team until I returned to the league. What a fun group of users we are building on! I’m really excited for this return in the SHL, I’ve done a lot of stuff I’ve been wanting to do in the league for a while now so to say I have done it is great! I’m looking forward to the draft a ton as I’m excited to see what happens where my other classmates go as well. Enjoy the rest of the playoffs!
