The IIHF HO is thrilled to announce the Season 80 IIHF tournament will be hosted in...... Quebec! In only their third tournament as a Federation, we are extremely excited to see the enthusiasm and support the team from Montreal receive. The tournament will be held in the largest indoor arena in Canada, the Bell Center, home of the Montreal Patriotes Patriotes .

The Quebec Quebec  Federation heads, @Revontulete and @Atheist_Caliph, couldn't be more excited to host teams from around the world for this tournament.

Although they are excited to host, they both have reservations about how competitive the team will be. "Honestly chief, look at our TPE, now look at the league's. Look at the leagues, now back to me. Clearly, the league isn't me, and I don't think any amount of Old Spice is gonna change that fact." Caliph is right, no amount of old spice will change the team TPE, but it might help boost morale if their equipment is that smelly! Gwen had a similar perspective when it comes to team Quebec's competitiveness saying " We're still in the middle of building some sort of roster so I worry about how we'll look. There's a time where we'll be strong enough to push for gold, but sadly it's not on our own ice this time."

Despite the realistic view of the Fed Heads, there is a lot to look forward to for this young Quebec team. "We're bringing in youthful players hoping that in a couple of seasons we're strong enough to stand with Canada, Sweden, or Germany" Caliph said about the young group they have with them. The experience and Chemistry this team builds will only propel them towards the top of the standings in a few seasons. Having the experience of playing in front of your own crowd will surely stay with the players for seasons to come. Gwen is confident they will be a gold medal contender soon enough saying " We're the epitome of a build - from the ground up, we're sniping the very best players we can get, and not prioritizing team size, instead, team quality is everything. We'll have our day, you wait and see."

Although this tournament may not be where team Quebec wins it all, the fans have lots to look forward to! The ice surface was recently redesigned by on of the graphic girls in the SHL realm or so Gwen says.... Not only will the view of the ice impress the fans, the overpriced but delicious snacks will have them leaving the rink satisfied regardless of what performance their home team puts on. Gwen promised they have stocked up on the famous Quebec dish of poutine. They surely won't run out.

Tournament Dates:
Pre-Tournament: January 30-31
Group Stage: February 1-5
Medal Round: February 7-9

Groups:
At first glance, the groups for this season's tournament may appear a little lop-sided. Group A, has the back-to-back Champs in Team Canada Canada , followed by last seasons Cinderella Story team, the silver medalists, Team Latvia Latvia . France France will be stiff competition in group A. They are always in the mix of things throughout the group stage and can't quite keep it together during the medal round. Will S80 be their season to stand atop the podium? Finland Finland and Sweden Sweden are two teams that historically are in the thick of the top to middle of the standings but both had disappointing S79 tournaments. Both will be looking to bounce back and show that last season was nothing more than a miss-step. Rounding out Group A is Germany Germany and Great Britain Uk .  Germany Germany has had limited success in the tournament over the last 10 or so. It seems to be all or nothing for them as they have won 3 gold medals (S70, S72 and S74) but haven't found the podium otherwise. Great Britain Uk has struggled lately having not received a medal since S69. A medal may be out of reach for them this tournament but they will be looking to improve upon their S79 success where they lost out in the Quaterfinals.

Over in Group B, we have the S79 bronze medalists in Team Switzerland Switzerland . Along side them we have Ireland Ireland who has been relatively strong the last few seasons with a gold medal in S77.  Team Czechia Czechia had an outstanding tournament in S79 but narrowly missed the podium. Team Japan Japan will be backed by BASE PACK who has historically kept their team in it. Can they do it again this tournament? We will see! Rounding out Group B are The United states Usa , Norway Norway and the hosts, team Quebec Quebec . All three of these teams have struggled and will be looking to take that step forward in the tournament. "

Players to Watch
Forward: Jack St. Clair Canada @CrazyMojito has been a key part of Canada's Canada back-to-back titles. Leading the team in goals, assists and points last season, St. Clair has long been a household name for Canadian fans. If Canada Canada wants to become the first nation since S56-58 to win back-to-back-to-back titles, they will need St. Clair to have another solid tournament.

Defense: Jaromir Jagrbomb Finland @sulovilen has been helping the Finish Finland blue line since S75. Their play last tournament led them to be nominated for top defender of the tournament. They led defenseman in goals, tied second for assists, tied for the lead in points and was tied for second in hits. All this on a Finish team that finished second last despite having a positive goal differential. They were one win away from making it into the playoffs. They will need to have another solid tournament for Finland Finland to make it out of the group stage.

Goalie: The reining top goalie, Henri Losanov France @gaby is the goalie to watch. They obviously had an outstanding tournament in S79 and will be looking to help propel their French team to a better finish. With a 6-2 record and the second best goals against average and save % and the top goals saved above average at last seasons tournament, Losanov may have it in them to push France France towards the top of the standings.

Another goalie who deserves a shout out is Olof Karsikko Germany @Accka . Karsikko has been backing the German Germany team since S67. Despite being on the lower end of TPE, Karsikko has been a regular on the goalie leaderboard. This may be their last IIHF tournament and the Germans will surely be looking to send them off with a medal.

The rosters can be found here.

Good luck to all the teams and players! Go Sports!

Ghamms, you took our inane rambling responses to your questions and made us not look like crazy people - I know we're probably marching into a killing field, but with a hype post like this, I'm more than okay with that xD

"That way - no, no, a little to the left!"

"Oh, shit, not like that wait no -!!"

crash!!!

"Oh god Cake is gonna hit me again" :'0
