Nicky Pedersen Jr and Lil' Manius both STEALS on draft day!

Nicky Pedersen Jr, son of the great Nicholas Pedersen was taken 31st overall in the S42 SMJHL entry draft. Largely considered the steal of the draft, he was overlooked for an astonishing 3 rounds eventually being taking with the second to last pick in the 4th. Much like his father, future hall of famer Nicholas Pedersen, who was somehow overlooked in the S20 SHL draft going at a ridiculous pick 42, Nicky Jr has a chip on his shoulder and will make everyone pay for passing on him. He’s not upset though because St.Louis is a place he was hoping to play, he got to know Crows GM Joe Kurczewski by coming to Dragons training camp with his father. The Dragons had a big father and son scrimmage every year, despite Esa threatening to eat the children, it was always a success. With his father Nicholas Pedersen Sr playing his final season in the SHL this year, we can all get excited about the next great Pedersen, super skilled Nicky Jr.

Lil’Manius, the illegitimate son of Big Manius, potentially fathered by Slappy McDoodle (under investigation) was taken 25th overall in the SMJHL entry draft. Another player who saw an unexpected fall on draft day before St.Louis smartly snatched him up in the 4th. Lil’ Manius is a different player than future hall of famer and renowned pugilist Big Manius. First off he’s much smaller at a measly 5’6” and 182 pounds where Big Manius was like 6’8” 265 or somewhere around there, another tell-tale sign that Lil’ is not truly Big’s son. However, Lil Manius looks to be even more skilled that his “father” boasting an excellent scoring touch and two-way game. Word is he dominated his midget league to the tune of 112 points in 50 games as a 12yr old. Granted he was only 4’3” at the time and would skate between defenders legs, but the kids got game, no doubt about it.

Nicky Jr and Lil’ Manius are now teammates and apparently requested lockers next to each other. The two young stars played together in and American tournament when they were 14, both were granted exceptional status and allowed to play in the USHL future stars tournament. The two teens got to know each other well, especially in the showers where Nicky Jr learned why Lil’ got his appropriate name. Much like his old man Big, he is little in all the wrong places, must be a family curse. Regardless, Nicky Jr and Lil’ showed good chemistry in that USHL tournament and could immediately pay dividends for St.Louis as rookie linemates. Having a friend and locker mate on the team coming out of the draft should make the transition to the SMJHL easier for both of them. Lil’ is a little concerned about everyone else learning where he got his name, but knowing he has friend to lean on in Nicky Jr should make him able to overcome his shortcomings. Actually, now that I think about it, being small in the crotch could support the claim that Lil’ Manius is actually the genetic off-spring of Slappy McDoodle. Should be interesting to see @Bonk and @Slappydoodle ‘s take on that.

Skill-wise let’s take a look at Nicky Pedersen Jr first. He hails from the hockey hotbed of Ridgebury Connecticut, known for its excellent deli’s and rolling hills. Nicky Jr was stand out in the Ridgebury youth hockey system, racking up 397 points in 150 games before going to Fairfield Prep as a freshman. There he played with the son of Chris Drury and led the league in points, setting a prep school record 114 points in 40 games. He was down right filthy. His skating is top notch as well as his scoring ability, he can carry the puck and unleash his howitzer of a slap shot at top speed and hit the corners. Scouts have his shot rated at an 11 out of 10, that’s right we said 11. His backhand is a 12. Nicky Pedersen Jr also is great defensively, it’s a stand out part of his game, his ability to read a play and be in the right position to defend or intercept a pass is second to none. We speculate this is what will separate him from the other talented scorers in the league. His hockey IQ is also off the charts, being the son of a hall of famer he obviously has watched a lot of hockey and learned from the best. We expect true greatness from Nicky Pedersen Jr!

Now we move on to the skill of Lil’ Manius. His #1 skill is probably making his teammates feel good about themselves in the team shower, but lets focus on hockey for a minute. Lil’ is also extremely skilled, he’s a scorer with phenomenal puck handling ability and elusiveness. His game is probably similar to that Johnny Gaudreau in the NHL, a diminutive player with a larger than life skill level who’s learned to adapt to the league despite being the smallest guy on the ice. Lil’ Manius is used to being small and has learned to use it to his advantage. He’s hard to hit and is extremely fast, in today’s SHL that can actually be considered an advantage. Lil’ has excelled at every level he’s played at and his small size has never been an issue on the ice. His elite skill, speed, puck handling and elusiveness are expected to be on display for St.Louis this season and with any luck he should be in for a big rookie year.

It’s not every day that you can add two members as great as Bonk and @mstuk41 to your locker room. St.Louis did a fantastic job of bringing these two in along with another great veteran in Goku Muerto. The benefit of having these 3 in the room will be felt in St.Louis for quite some time, they will set a great example for young players to follow and I’m sure will deliver on the ice and probably win a championship or two. A+ for St.Louis on draft day.

I'm lucky to have these two as my linemates. Very excited to see what we can do this year.

Let it be known, Slappy McDoodle regularly wanders the beaches of South Beach naked as a jaybird. Anyone who has witnessed this will know without doubt that the Lil bits of Lil' Manius could not have come from Mr. McDoodle, whom many women (and especially LaFlamme's large and lovely sisters) refer to as "the yardstick".
