RE: Weekend Funtime: The GOAT List - Meursault - 02-03-2019

The GOAT list

1. Calgary making the playoffs in 20 of 21 seasons.
2.Alonzo Garbanzo's 1738 blocks (438 more then 2nd place)
3.ToeDragons 2285 TPE (most TPE in league history)
4.Danny Foster's 7 Turd Fergeson Awards.
5.Wasty's 31 seasons as the GM of the Panthers.
6. Irelands 3 straight IIHF gold medals (S42-Present)
7. Kelowna winning 3 straight 4 star cup championships (S40-43)
8.Thadeus Prince has a 29-4-1 lifetime SHL record in net.

Explanation: for me, the incredible consistency of making the playoffs every year can't be topped. While the great players come and go, have an entire organization always running full tilt is amazing. So many things could go arwy in a season, and yet Calgary always seems to be on the winning side. Truly impressive

RE: Weekend Funtime: The GOAT List - c00kies - 02-03-2019

1 -Kelowna winning 3 straight 4 star cup championships.
2- Dragons making playoffs 20/21 seasons
3 -Irelands 3 straight IIHF gold medals (S42-Present)
4 -Alonzo Garbanzo's 1738 blocks (438 more then 2nd place)
5- ToeDragons 2285 TPE (most TPE in league history)
6 -Danny Foster's 7 Turd Fergeson Awards.
7 -Wasty's 31 seasons as the GM of the Panthers.
8 -Thadeus Prince has a 29-4-1 lifetime SHL record in net.

Kelowna winning that often in a league of constant change is incredible. The Dragons consistently being competitive in a league that usually has rebuilding seasons also quite extraordinary. Finally, Ireland winning 3 straight golds is crazy in a short tournament where one bad game can send you home, and the competition is great every year.

1. Irelands 3 straight IIHF gold medals (S42-Present)
last: everything else

As a proud Irish player who's been fortunate enough to be on the team for all 3 gold medal wins, I'd have to rank us first. But when you consider our squad compared to teams that should be better like Finland, Canada, and the USA, it's a very impressive record. IIHF is such a short tourney that it's hard to make a mark. But Ireland has in a major way.

1. Calgary making the playoffs in 20 of 21 seasons.
2. Alonzo Garbanzo's 1738 blocks (438 more then 2nd place)
3. Kelowna winning 3 straight 4 star cup championships (S40-43)

6. Irelands 3 straight IIHF gold medals (S42-Present)
7. Thadeus Prince has a 29-4-1 lifetime SHL record in net.
8. Danny Foster's 7 Turd Ferguson Awards.

Explanation: Making the playoffs so consistently for 20+ seasons is remarkable and a feat I don't think will ever be matched. Garbanzo's record is also incredible, but his numbers are slightly inflated from playing so many minutes on weak teams.

Explanation:
It's hard to be that successful for so long it stems from drafting well and having a good reputation around the league that gives you the FA's when needed. The TPE record is insane and people undervalue what kind of work goes into that because you have to be on top of everything PbP's,Fantasy,Predictions. Wasty's longevity is crazy good of an accomplishment and I wish I can someday can come close to that number.

the shl takes a decent amount of commitment and gaining TPE can be such a grind. i could never keep up the way Toe did. love the gap on the shot block record between 1st and second. being a GM can be stressful as shit im sure. i think the international medals are a but harder to be consistent with as you dont get to neccessarily get to pick who you want to play for your team. all of these are honestly great and i could never imagine coming close to touching one of them.

-Wasty's 31 seasons as the GM of the Panthers. (I guess you could say he was Wasty-ing his time away in LA)

ToeDragon's record just proves how dedicated he is and it should be recognized. It takes someone with consistent and undying work ethic to be able to stay that active for such a long time without dropping off. His achievement to me is the most prestigious record in the SHL as of right now.

In my opinion, my top 2 is far ahead from the rest as greatest accomplishments. With Edmonton and Winnipeg missing the playoffs recently while at their peak just shows how ridiculous that Calgary streak was. Ireland winning 3x in a row such a short tournament is also impressive. What Kelowna did to get those championships hurt the SMJHL and they don't belong here

RE: Weekend Funtime: The GOAT List - Blastmeaway - 02-03-2019

1. Irelands 3 straight IIHF gold medals (S42-Present)
2. Kelowna winning 3 straight 4 star cup championships (S40-43)
3. Calgary making the playoffs in 20 of 21 seasons.
4. ToeDragons 2285 TPE (most TPE in league history)

I don't know who Thadeus Prince is or why having 34 gp is impressiive. Also wasty's 31 season tenure is impressive, but there hasn't been much team hardware to make it a top ranking for me.

RE: Weekend Funtime: The GOAT List - bana - 02-03-2019

Without heavily getting into it, my rankings may likely be:

#1 - Wasty's 31 seasons as the GM of the Panthers.
#2 - ToeDragons 2285 TPE (most TPE in league history)
#3 - Irelands 3 straight IIHF gold medals (S42-Present)
#4 - Calgary making the playoffs in 20 of 21 seasons.
#5 - Danny Foster's 7 Turd Fergeson Awards.
#6 - Kelowna winning 3 straight 4 star cup championships (S40-43)
#7 - Alonzo Garbanzo's 1738 blocks (438 more then 2nd place)
#8 - Thadeus Prince has a 29-4-1 lifetime SHL record in net.

Essentially, Wasty's streak is amazing. 31 seasons is amazing for anything. Going can be tough and requires a good chunk of effort if you wish to be successful. For his consistency and longevity, it has me in awe. The next 2, That TPE amount is crazy. I remember having 1,600ish and being proud, but 2,200??? And Ireland isn't a hockey dominant place, so kudos to them for winning 3 straight golds. Calgary is essentially the NHL's Detroit for playoff streak. It's an amazing one. I don't get #8 but meh and #5 could even be higher as thats a good amount of one award for a career.

RE: Weekend Funtime: The GOAT List - Bonk - 02-03-2019

The GOAT list

1. ToeDragons 2285 TPE (most TPE in league history)
2. Alonzo Garbanzo's 1738 blocks (438 more then 2nd place)
3. Danny Foster's 7 Turd Fergeson Awards.
4. Thadeus Prince has a 29-4-1 lifetime SHL record in net
5. Leafs4Ever's 30 seasons as the GM of Winnipeg.
6. Calgary making the playoffs in 20 of 21 seasons.
7. Irelands 3 straight IIHF gold medals (S42-Present)
8. Kelowna winning 3 straight 4 star cup championships (S40-43)

Explanation: You ask me why? Visser, Garbanzo, Foster and Prince are all monsters, which will chew you up and spit you out. Leafs is the man, and the other team runs are team runs.

RE: Weekend Funtime: The GOAT List - FlappyGiraffe - 02-03-2019

-ToeDragons 2285 TPE (most TPE in league history)
-Alonzo Garbanzo's 1738 blocks (438 more then 2nd place)
-Thadeus Prince has a 29-4-1 lifetime SHL record in net.

I chose to put ToeDragon at the top of my list, as gathering that much TPE is something that takes consistent and constant updating for seasons on end, over many real years. Garbanzo's achievement is also incredibly impressive due to the gap between him and second place.

RE: Weekend Funtime: The GOAT List - SlashACM - 02-03-2019

1-ToeDragons 2285 TPE (most TPE in league history)
2-Alonzo Garbanzo's 1738 blocks (438 more then 2nd place)
3-Kelowna winning 3 straight 4 star cup championships (S40-43)

7-Thadeus Prince has a 29-4-1 lifetime SHL record in net.
8-Wasty's 31 seasons as the GM of the Panthers.

I put the tpe as the biggest thing because grinding tpe like a motherfucker is probably the most difficult thing on the site, so having the most ever means you really dedicated a lot to the site and made it a better place for everyone. The rest of the order is kind of arbitrary because it was hard for me to really pick an order for them.

RE: Weekend Funtime: The GOAT List - Baelor Swift - 02-03-2019

1. Kelowna winning 3 straight 4 star cup championships (S40-43)

So yeah, aside from 7 and 8 this was quite hard. However, the first three all require a lot of things to be done right and done very well to happen. The next three are either feats of endurance or a lot of luck in the case of Ireland. The bottom two... Those ones are literally meaningless.

Explanation:

It's hard to argue against the pure longevity of Wasty and Calgary's playoff dominance. That doesn't just happen, and it's really impressive to me. I have KEL at two because the SMJHL is so fickle, so winning a Four Star Cup is a total crapshoot. Winning three in a row is just ridiculous. I put Prince's goalie record last because there isn't the longevity, while the record is impressive. I put ToeDragon lower than many, because I think it's due in part to some TPE inflation over time. I don't think it's unheard of that someone could surpass Toe's record in the future.

The Four Star isn't a crap shoot when you trade away draft picks for "active" (players that stalled out at ~350 but will log in to sign a min contract that doesn't count as inactive) players. I'm sorry but people are crediting KEL way too much. I was in that LR for all three cup wins. The first was fun, second had a few actives, and the third was had basically no actives. The KEL discord by the third one was a few alums that talked but maybe one active player.
u mad?
