Class of S53 SHL Draftees

Every end of season brings a new beginning, some of us moving on to bigger and greater things while other just getting their feet wet as they embark onto new adventures.  As I already made an article on draft eligible players going into the S53 SMJHL, I've decided to look into the latest rookies to dawn a SMJHL jersey whose hopes and dreams may become a reality in the very near future.  The prospects depicted in this article, are  seasoned rookies who wait eagerly the announcements that may change their very future as they know it.

In S52, the following teams had some great picks to show for themselves, as the following players led all rookies in scoring:

1)  The Anchorage Armada were lucky or good to have chosen  a player by the name of  Danny White @Insaynea number 10 overall in his draft class, he posted 14g-18a for 32pts in 50gp which popped him into the top 60 ranking for point getters of the league sitting at 55.

2)  With same goals and point totals the 11th overall pick sits fellow colleague Edward  Williams @Aephino  from the Detroit falcons.  A power forward centermen who also gets credit for having the second best shooting %  in the league at 19,72%.

3)  The Falcons scouting group can be proud, at number three stands another product of their development program Zoltan Topalo @Rangerjase.  Chosen 30th overall, right shooting LW with a 2-way hockey sense posted great numbers as well.  His 10g and 30 points made him the 7th best scorer of his team which also featured a 5 game point scoring streak.

4)  Lucas Hellquist @NightRobin is a big big man at 6'4" and 245lbs showed off his play making abilities by chipping in 21 helpers and 30 points as well.  The Halifax Raiders prospect also manged to pick up 6 points on the power play.  Also a 3rd round pick (28th).

5)  At the 16th overall pick, the St.Louis Scarecrows have a special pedigree on their hands, one called Erben Kasius @PaqChiming in over 1000 minutes played, this cool smooth skating offensive defenseman produced big numbers.  With 14 out of his 25 points coming with the man advantage, Erben also managed to mark 9 goals on the powerplay.

6)  The Newfounland Berserkers have a offensive defenseman of their own too.  Vince Chalut a 5th round pick  @Chaxterium, posted decent numbers with 22 points with 5 of them coming on the pp.  At 6'-4" 215lbs the young man does not shy away from the physical game.  Although  not his trade mark, he still showed a physical presence by dishing out 42 body checks.

7)  From the kelowna Knights C- Rocco Berni @Blues, was drafted in the 1st round 9th overall in his respective SMHJL draft class.  Berni posted good numbers with a total of 22 points.  His 6 goals coming at even strength as time on the PP was scarce, he did mange to pick 6 assits on the special teams.

8)  Jukka Timonen @"Smalinowski7", drafted  in the 2nd round by the Newfoundland Berserkers,  although his -7 rating jumps up at you, the 2-way d-man makes up for it on the PP.  Getting 21 points and 9 of them coming on the man advantage, Jukka possess a great shot, with 16,39% accuracy, he uses it often on the PP where his team saw him score 6 times from the point.

9)  In the 8th round of the S53 SMJHL draft,  the Detroit Falcons strike again.  Adding a 10th rookie to their lineup with 3 of them making the cut in this top 10 rookie list. 72nd overall is Paddy Kane-Reilly II @GreyGooseVodkaA sniper at heart, with limited ice time he managed to put up a 21 point campaign.  Without much of a physical presence, the native of Japan will have to rely on his defensive awareness and scoring prowess to get those minutes on the special teams.

10)  Selected in the 2nd round 15th overall the Carolina Kraken pick D-man Ambacas Cuddles @"cpetrella".  A stay at home defenseman of the modern age, standing at 7'9" and 350lbs, this mountain of a man can dish it.  Registering 21 points with only one goal, the mammoth defenseman dished out 51 hits.  A future force on the blueline his +14 rating were the 5th highest ratings on his team.  Goalies best friend!!

I've introduced you to some of the possible eligible skaters who might of caught the eye of a SHL general manager, but it wouldn't be fair to end this article without having an honorable mention go out to the ones with the big pads.  I scouted the young goalie talent who might here their name called out this coming SHL draft, and I've narrowed it down to 3 options.  In no particular order, as they all are worthy of their shot, I'll let the numbers do the talking.

1)  At 20th overall the Carolina Kraken chose G- Frans Eller @AceWith only 12gp and a record of 6-5-1 and a save percentage of 0,881 and GAA of 3,08.

2)  With the 54th pick overall, the Colorado raptors pick up G-Jerry Huuveri @Jerppu.  His butterfly style earned him 12 game appearances and posted a record of 5-3-2, a disappointing 0,863 save percentage is saved by a great GAA of 2,71.

3)  Lastly but definitely not least, the 32nd overall pick A Jobin @"Awesomecakes".  Another butterfly goalie who pretty much to the league by storm.  As a rookie Jobin a future work horse, appeared in 39 games and played over 2,200 minutes putting him at 6th most minutes played in the league.  Tag him up with 21 wins good for 5th best in the league.  With a slightly inflated GAA of 3,65 and and sub par save percentage at 0,871, are still top 10 in the league.
Good luck to all those involved, and thank you for setting the stage for ourselves the class of S54 SHL!!  Remember its not how hard you fall but how hard you bounce back!
