IIHF Quarterfinal and Semifinals (IIHL Double Media)
#1

Yes, I am still here pumping out mediocre content to get that money during the double media time.  It is a grind and my fingers are dead at this point but I digress.  We will look at some of the wild developments in the IIHF playoffs and see who will be playing for Gold and Silver as well as who is battling it out for third.  Now that I have seen the actual bracket and now have the correct match ups (sorry about that), I now see how this has played out.

Quarterfinals

In what will go down as one of the biggest upsets in IIHF history, prohibitive favorite Team United States was knocked off by the eighth seeded Team Japan.  Word is the United States coach was caught breaking the coronavirus bubble on his way back from the strip club after a night of raucous fun.  He did not get a chance to put the correct lineup in and they decided to start their back up goalie.  Overall an absolutely embarrassing effort that they should all be ashamed of.  On the flip side, Japan really played a strong game and have earned their spot in the Semi finals.  Still a very funny turn of events.

Canada, the other favorite for gold managed to handle their business against Switzerland by winning three to one.  Not many surprises here and they knew when they hit the ice that their path to gold just became much easier.  After the game, they were quick to say they would not fall into the same trap against Japan in the semi finals and that they will bring their A game to the next match up.  We will see but hopefully their coach is not hanging out with the United States coach.

Great Britain is looking like a strong contender for the gold medal now after a crushing victory over Austria.  They beat them like a rented mule from the word go by a score of four to zero.  Austria really did not want it and laid an egg.  Congrats to them for making it out of the group stage but they need some work before they will contend for a medal.

Czechia had a slightly harder time than expected with the Swedish team which took them to the brink.  Either way, the strength of the Czechian team was too much for Sweden to handle and ultimately they managed a four to three win to send them to the Semi finals.  When their coach was interviewed after the game, he just said, he will break you and walked off.  They will face a tougher test in the high flying Great Britain team in the semi finals.

Semifinals

Canada faced Japan in the semi finals to decide who would be heading to the gold medal game.  Unfortunately for Japan, the magical run ends at the hands of the Canadian team.  Japan did not go down without a fight though taking a one one tie deep into the third period.  Canada managed to push one across the line with about three and a half minutes left then held on to the two to one score for the victory.  They are going ahead into the gold medal game with some serious momentum.  It was a heck of a game.

In one of the most anticipated match ups of the playoffs, two evenly matched teams in Great Britain and Czechia faced off to decide which of these two teams would go to challenge Canada for the gold.  While Czechia put up a great fight, Great Britain was too great in this case and knocked them into the bronze game to face Japan.  It was not really ever close as Great Britain's offense was too much to handle, jumping out to a five goal lead and finishing five to two.  In this case, the two and three seeds will face off in the gold medal game and the four and eight seeds will battle for the bronze.

This year's tournament has provided some very fun games to watch.  Tune in again to see who comes out on top in the gold medal game as well as the bronze medal game.  Right now with the way Great Britain is playing, they could very well be on the podium with gold medals around their necks by the time it is all said and done.  With the amazing performance of the Japanese team, it is going to be all Czechia can handle to secure their place as the third best team in the world.
