Hello and welcome, one and all to the third edition of the Timber Team Awards - S55 Edition. I want to start off by congratulating the Newfoundland Berserkers on their 4 Star Cup victory.

As a franchise, individual awards are something that we feel is important to recognize individual excellence that together makes this the best place to play. It is an unofficial mark to the end of our season, and is a chance to remember some big moments and players who donned the green and brown throughout the season, and for the first time in a long time, playoffs. One important distinction that I would like to make is that we didn’t just stumble into the playoffs, we put together a campaign that was strong enough to win our way in under the old rules and we came in as underdogs in the East, making moves that took time to click into place both personnel wise and tactics, but got us ready to go when it mattered the most. Tonight, we will be presenting 5 Awards: Leadership, Rookie, Forward, Defender - each named after a franchise alumni who excelled in the position the award is being named, and a team MVP named by the management group.

First off the board is the Atlas Rush (@Rublic) award named for the best leader both on and off the ice, nominated by their peers. The nominees are:

Valentin Kalashnikov - Cap finished his second season wearing the C for the Timber and I can’t think of anyone who speaks for the trees as much as Valentin. The team has been shaped by his steady hand, and his voice will be echoing down the halls and in the souls of Timbers to come for seasons to come.
Alexander Oscarsson - Oscarsson was elevated to a letter last offseason after his rookie campaign. He has driven team bonding and engagement throughout the season, as well as being sure that the team knows when the game is on and did his fair share of pumping up the locker room.
Mikkel Asmus Sondergard - Sondergard worked furiously throughout the last offseason to improve his offensive game. The end result was astounding, he became a solid fitting in our power play which saw a massive increase and was a large part of Maine’s success this season. Always happy to help out guide some players along the way with their build, MAS truly helped elevate the team.

2 time winner, Valentin Kalashnikov! The team would appreciate an uplifting speech I’m sure.

Best Rookie is named after Rainbow Dash (@Eggy216) and Mikkel Asmus Sondergard (@Rabidsponge21) - both franchise studs have gone 1oa in both SMJHL and SHL drafts, which is an outstanding feat. Both have had wonderful and impactful careers with the franchise and play an important part in the history. The nominees for the newly minted Dash-Sondergard award are:
Lucas Johansson - Lucas came to the team as a known entity and valued user. As soon as he mentioned he would be entering the draft we had our sites focused squarely on him with our first round pick and he has not disappointed. Playing critical penalty killing minutes (we took a lot) he was able to weather the storm and keep us in it for a win. 11 Points, +3, and 2:44 average short handed time on ice per game he was a solid contributor on the ice.
Calvin Hobbes - Calvin came onto the team with the second and final draft pick from Maine last season. Heading into the draft they had 2 spaces to fill - at C and a Wing. With the hope that his draft partner Johansson would be available in the first round, the goal was to scout the centers pretty heavily. This produced Hobbes, high on the draft list, and someone we were extremely happy to add to the team. 11 points as well, and seeing powerplay time, Calvin is a super addition to the offensive firepower, wonderful locker room presence and a great fit for a bigger role moving forward.

Esa Parmborg (@Steelhead77). Award for the top forward. Main had a lot of nominations this season as the forward class is growing together, but the following 3 candidates separated themselves from the rest of the pack.
Alexander Oscarsson - 37 Points and lead the team in forward power play time with an average of 3 minutes per game! We wanted him on the ice as much as possible because he drove offense when he was there.
Victor Ball - 38 point production for the sophomore ball, his production increased by 20 points, more than doubling his rookie output. Another mainstay on the powerplay. Ball also racked up 22 points in the playoffs, and led the entire league in playoff assists at 17 - the same amount as Harrington’s total points from the NL playoffs. Ball had truly a clutch explosion of offense when he was looked to.
Kyle Sutton - Lead the entire team in points this season at 41, and goals at 20. Sutton has emerged as one of the premier goal scorers in the league. He unlocked another level in the playoffs, potting 16 goals and 26 points in the depth run, he lead by 4 points over second place Ball, and 9 points over the next best non Timber player. You are only as good as your linemates, but I would like to point out the line mates success across the board is high and Sutton looked to be the best of the best.

The winner of the Esa Parmborg award is …
Setting a new FHM playoff record in both points and goals - and even if you want to discount 4 games for the new playoff format this was a special appearance. These records will be difficult to surpass, offensive powerhouse Kyle Sutton!

The final award that was voted on by the team members is the top defender award. Dominic Montgomery (@bilbo). The Nominees are:
Valentin Kalashnikov - Kalashnikov has been a mainstay in this category since we brought the team awards into play. He is one of the premier defenders in the league and put together a wonderful campaign, including being one of the most lethal fighters in the league. 43 hits in the playoffs (1st among defense), most fights won in the playoffs, 20 points in the regular season, Kalashnikov was a true league leader in a defensive, fearsome brand of hockey that is becoming synonymous with his name.
Will Windsor - An unfortunate injury brought this young star's career to an early exit. Our second goalie for the last 3 seasons, Windsor had set out to do one thing, and that was block shots. Sitting on top of the leader board in that category for each of the last 3 seasons, Windsor was the best shot blocker who didn’t wear goalie pads in the league without question.
Mikkel Asmus Sondergard - MAS concluded his 3 season junior career as one of the top defenders in the league. He transitioned from a penalty kill specialist last season to an elite power play quarterback - averaging just over 3 minutes average on the PP per game, posting 30 points in his ultimate season, and adding 13 more in the post season.

A very close race, but Valentin Kalashnikov squeaks out a very close victory!

Here we come again to the final award of the evening, the Timber MVP. A familiar face has been the recipient of this award the last 2 seasons, but we’ve had a pretty darn good season from a few deserving players. Sutton and Oscarsson demolished the playoff scoring mark, MAS and Kalashnikov were one of the most imposing D pairs across the league. At the end of the day though we have been blessed with a goalie who faced down the best goalie FHM scoring, and bested the defensive battle against the best defensive team in the FHM era, stole game 6 and game 7 from the Knights - allowing only 1 goal against in 2 crucial knockout games, and just generally giving the team a chance to win.
We took the juggernaut Berserkers to 6 hard fought games. We over performed everyone's expectations except for our own. Unfortunately for us this season that was not quite enough. We have a lot to be proud of, but we have more work still to be done. I’m looking forward to this next season, and I hope you all are as well. For now, please accept this for the third time Bloomey!

Closing out the ceremony I want to also unveil the banner that we will be hanging in the rafters of the Cross Insurance Arena. Western Conference Champions isn't the one we had our eyes set on, but it is an accomplishment that should be celebrated. Only 2 teams make it to the final and as the last few seasons have shown it isn't an easy task to get there. This is our achievement and we will be proud to show it off in the Timber way.

What a huge honor guys, I can't thank y'all enough for all the love and support this team has given me. The squad is clearly one of the best on and off the ice and leading them alongside great management from @Citizen of Adraa and @CementHands has been an awesome experience. I know that the passion and fire within the team to win and dominate lives on and I will be cheering for Maine from the Big Leagues.
