Buchs' Boy Beck Banks Big-League Bucks
#1

****First Time Post****

Imagine a time long ago (or not so long ago): the Kelowna Knights just raised the first ever three-peat Four Star Cup. The Dragons and Platoon are exchanging punches for Challenge Cups at the top of the SHL. Ireland is in the midst of an international reign of terror. It was during this era of SHL greatness that the small town of Buchs, Switzerland was blessed with Marcel Beck. And there was much rejoicing. However, to fully understand the significance of this event, one must first understand the circumstances surrounding the Beck family.

Legend says that each and every Beck is born with a hockey stick in their hand. Janne Beck, Marcel's father, is a locally renowned defensive technique guru, teaching the young Swiss how to play responsible hockey - generating offense through sound defensive coverage and transition. Janne's scrupulous teaching and great mind for hockey is a result of his unfortunate club foot - he would have no doubt been one of the best defensemen in the history of the SHL if not for physical limitation. Marcel's mother, Gerta, diligently oversees the local rink. Her business acumen is a sight to behold - the rink and its talent product has flourished in recent years as a result of her hard work. The Beck's business is hockey. Buchs' business is the Becks.

Enter Marcel.

As an SHL dreamer, it pays to live and breathe hockey every second since birth. Marcel was a product of his environment and, boy, did he flourish. With his parents' help, he was reading the game expertly by age 4. When Marcel was six years old, (with a little prodding from his father) he decided that being a great defenseman was more important than those flashy forward stat lines. During his age 8 season, Marcel could boast about the fact that not a single goal allowed while he was on the ice. At age 12, his natural defensive gifts started to lead into increased offensive awareness. Then the points started to come. At age 15, he was the leading point producer on his team as well as a defensive stud at a plus 63. To Marcel, this was the dream. The next step: the SMJHL.

The call they were all waiting for finally came. Professional hockey was calling on the Beck household in the form of the St. Louis Scarecrows. It was a dream come true for Marcel Beck and he accepted their DFA offer to play in the big leagues in North America. A million bucks ain't bad either. It was bittersweet for the Beck family when Marcel left for North America. Everyone in Buchs knows that he has what it takes to be one of the greats. Sure enough, Marcel knows that too. He is prepared to whatever it takes to get to the top.

Look for Marcel Beck to make a big impact when he hits North American ice. Sure, the electrical storm that hit his plane on the way over reset his skills to 155 TPE, but watch him regain those skills very quickly in the coming seasons.
