Outlaws Star Daniel Merica Jr. Takes Part in Drills

ANAHEIM -- We are closing in on the S60 SHL Entry Draft, and some of the top prospects are hailing from the Anaheim Outlaws. Over this past season, the  Outlaws rookies outgained every other team, and could have up to 5 players selected in the first round alone, a huge testament to GM Ace’s ability to find talent. The Anaheim Outlaws recently held their annual “Pro-Day”, where their rookies get to show off their talents in front of scouts and try to raise their draft stock. With the recent changes to the SHL’s development system, these players capabilities were substantially increased and it seems quite relevant to show where they are now at in their development process. Let’s dig in.

C- Stan Din’Desque
TPE: 329
New Build:

Defensive Read: 12

Physical Ratings

Agility: 14
Balance: 13
Speed: 14
Stamina: 15
Strength: 13
Fighting: 5

Mental Ratings
Aggression: 5
Bravery: 8

- The number overall pick in the last seasons SMJHL draft, Stan is a powerfully built center, who is a bully in the face off circle and is built to play both sides of the ice with great consistency, with no glaring weaknesses on either side of the puck. Although he didn’t put up great numbers on the 4th line in Anaheim, he’s work ethic can’t be challenged and it’s only a matter of time before he breaks out in a big way. Anyone who needs a dedicated player who can dominate the faceoff circle, skate exceptionally well, knock opponents down and pass with precision should look no further.

LW- High Haschidi
TPE: 326
New Build:

Offensive Ratings
Screening: 5
Getting Open: 14
Passing: 13
Puckhandling: 14
Shooting Accuracy: 15
Shooting Range: 9
Offensive Read: 14

Defensive Ratings
Checking: 9
Hitting: 9
Positioning: 10
Stickchecking: 10
Shot Blocking: 10
Faceoffs: 5
Defensive Read: 11

Physical Ratings
Acceleration: 14
Agility: 13
Balance: 14
Speed: 15
Stamina: 15
Strength: 12
Fighting: 5

- Taken in the second round, Haschidi performed quite well. More offensively focused, but with enough defense to escape from being a liability, Haschidi is physically gifted, with enough speed to dash past defenders and create scoring opportunities, and god help you if he gets them, because his ability to shoot, handle the puck and read plays is among the best. Any team drafting Haschidi won’t regret it, he’s a consummate professional on and off the ice and works as hard as anyone.

LW- Videl Valor
TPE: 526
New Build:

Points Available: 102

Offensive Ratings
Screening: 8
Getting Open: 13
Passing: 15
Puckhandling: 15
Shooting Accuracy: 12
Shooting Range: 10
Offensive Read: 15

Defensive Ratings
Checking: 13
Hitting: 5
Positioning: 11
Stickchecking: 11
Shot Blocking: 11
Faceoffs: 11
Defensive Read: 13

Physical Ratings
Acceleration: 15
Agility: 15
Balance: 14
Speed: 14
Stamina: 15
Strength: 13
Fighting: 5

- Somehow, Valor went undrafted in the S59 entry draft, and is now back in the S60 draft. Boggles my mind how that happened, perhaps it was just that Valor keeps to himself most of the time, while being active in discord and with the team, but if any of you GMs or scouts are actually reading this, do not overlook him. Valor has good two way build, with no discernible weakness. Valor is an expert puck handler and delivers crisp, precise passes from anywhere on the ice, while also having the skills to be proficient in the faceoff circle. He brings a lot to the table, and fill several voids a team might have.

D- Jonathan Hagan
TPE: 322
New Build:

Offensive Ratings
Screening: 5
Getting Open: 11
Passing: 14
Puckhandling: 13
Shooting Accuracy: 12
Shooting Range: 13
Offensive Read: 15

Defensive Ratings
Checking: 13
Hitting: 11
Positioning: 13
Stickchecking: 13
Shot Blocking: 13
Faceoffs: 5
Defensive Read: 14

Physical Ratings
Acceleration: 13
Agility: 13
Balance: 11
Speed: 13
Stamina: 13
Strength: 12
Fighting: 5

Aggression: 5
Bravery: 7

- Hagan burst onto the scene this past season with great numbers for a rookie defenseman and was relied upon heavily by the Outlaws. Hagan can quarterback your power play with ease, having elite passing and puckhandling in his repertoire. One second Hagan will be delivering a blistering one-timer or delivering a no-look pass, and the other hes crushing your best offensive weapon into the boards. Hagan is very talented, and has the grind to prove it. One thing is for sure: he won’t be falling to the 4th round again, and if he does some people should be fired.

LW- Daniel Merica Jr.
TPE: 304
New Build:

Offensive Ratings
Screening: 5
Getting Open: 15
Passing: 8
Puckhandling: 15
Shooting Accuracy: 15
Shooting Range: 5
Offensive Read: 13

Defensive Ratings
Checking: 10
Hitting: 8
Positioning: 12
Stickchecking: 10
Shot Blocking: 5
Faceoffs: 5
Defensive Read: 10

Physical Ratings
Acceleration: 15
Agility: 10
Balance: 9
Speed: 15
Stamina: 15
Strength: 5
Fighting: 5

- Merica Jr. was another overlooked prospect that Anaheim swooped in on last draft, and he’s proven to be an active, dedicated member- although slightly behind his teammates in development time. You’ll be hard pressed to find a more lethally talented weapon on offense available. Merica sports blistering speed, dynamic puck handling ability and laser guided accuracy on his shots, with a deft ability to get open and be in the right spot. Next season should prove to be a big one for him, with increased minutes and a much larger role. While he isn’t as skilled defensively, that also isn’t his role, he is a sniper, an offensive guru, but he hasn’t totally skimped on defense, with just enough to avoid being a liability and proved this season he isn’t against improving his two-way game.
