(GRADED) Deep Dive #2 - How did the Anchorage Armada performed during the FHM era?
#1
(This post was last modified: 08-30-2021, 05:59 PM by leafs1997.)

I've always had the feeling that Anchorage has been one of the most dominant teams in the FHM era, and today it's time to check if it's actually true.

S53 50 GP | 29 W | 18 L | 3 OTL | 61 P | +36 DIFF : In the inaugural FHM season, Anchorage finished 3rd overall in the SMJHL standings with 61 points, and they had better goals for and goals against than the second team, Kelowna, but not enough wins in the end. Detroit absolutely dominated the league with only 7 losses and 2 losses in overtime. Their best player was definitely Mitchell van der Heijden, who was 2nd the league in points with 26 goals and 26 assists for 52 points. He was 14 points clear of the next top scoring Anchorage player, Braden Lowrie, who only had 38. Playoffs wise, Anchorage sadly didn't live up to their expectations and were beaten in 7 games against the Anaheim Outlaws, who were 4th in the league in the regular season. The defenseman Bork Lazer was the top scorer, with 6 points in the 7 games. Probably a season Anchorage wants to forget after this poor showing in the playoffs. Alexei Petrikov was nominated for the Esa Anrikkanen Trophy (Top Rookie), Scoochie Stratton was nominated for the Zach Miller Trophy (Most Dedicated Player), Mitchell van der Heijden was nominated for the Brandon Holmes Trophy (Top Defensive Forward) and he also was nominated and won the Ideen Fallah Trophy (Award Committee MVP). The Anchorage GMs at the time (Acsolap and golden_apricot) were also nominated for the Mathias Chouinard Award (Top GM Duo).

S54 50 GP | 22 W | 23 L | 5 OTL | 49 P | -9 DIFF : The Armada's second season was not really one to remember, ending 7th out of 10 teams in the SMJHL. Newfoundland, Kelowna, and Carolina were the big teams to beat this season in the J. The best scorer this season was Santtu Rasanen, but with a mere 41 points in 50 games. Anchorage managed to push to a game 7 against the Kelowna Knights, who ended 2nd in the regular season, but lost said game 7 against them, pushing them to a second first round exit in 7 games in a row. The top playoffs scorer was Ryan Cvitkovich, with 3 goals and 7 assists. No Anchorage players had a nomination for any awards this season, not a big surprise after a disappointing season.

S55 50 GP | 35 W | 12 L |  3 OTL | 73 P | +87 DIFF : Much better season for the Armada, ending with the best differential in the league and the least goals against. They finish third, not too far behind Newfoundland and Carolina. The best scorer for Anchorage this season was Chris De Siren, with 56 points, followed by Cyril Vyskoc with 49. With the two new expansion teams added, Quebec City and Nevada, Anchorage was given a bye for finishing first in their division, so it's not going to be a first round exit this time. They still lost in game 7 though, again, but in the second round this time, so Anchorage has yet to win a playoffs series in the FHM era. This time they lost to Maine, who ended 6th in the regular season, and they had swept Detroit in the first round. The top scorer for the playoffs is a tie between 7 players at 5 points. Another disappointing playoffs appearance for the Armada. Scoochie Stratton and Chimkin Tendy won the Matt Lewis-Flood Trophy (Top Team Save Percentage), Acsolap and golden_apricot were nominated for the Nour Harrak Award (Top GM Duo) and won it with the Newfoundland GMs because they were tied in voting, Scoochie Stratton was nominated and won the Tom Corcoran Trophy (Best Goalie), Pojo Biscuit was nominated for the Quilha Agante Trophy (Best Defenseman), Thorbjorn Gunnarson was nominated for the Ron Bolt Trophy (Most Sportsmanlike Player), Bork Lazer was the first ever player to win the Alexis Metzler Trophy (Top Defensive Defenseman), Scoochie Stratton was nominated for the Alex Light Trophy (Most Improved Player) and he also won the Ideen Fallah Trophy (Award Committee MVP). A lot of awards this season, maybe next season they can actually play well in the playoffs and win more things.

S56 50 GP | 29 W | 17 L | 4 OTL | 62 P | +34 DIFF : This is the final season with Assclap as GM, after GMing the team for 12 seasons. They had a pretty good regular season, finishing 3rd in the league standings behind Vancouver and Carolina. Santtu Rasanen was the top scorer with 46 points, followed closely by Theo Kondos with 44. Anchorage finally had a good playoffs run. They didn't get the first round bye this time because Vancouver won the division. So Anchorage played the first round against Detroit in the first round, winning the series in 5 games, then faced Nevada in the second round, only needing 5 games again to close the series, but then was stopped by Newfoundland in the semi finals, as Anchorage lost the series in 6 games. Ransanen was also the top scorer in the playoffs, scoring 4 goals and 11 assists in 16 games. Now for awards, TURG TURG was nominated for and won the Ron Bolt Trophy (Most Sportsmanlike Player), he was the only Anchorage player to be nominated for an award this season

S57 66 GP | 42 W | 16 L | 8 OTL | 92 P | +67 DIFF : Pretty strong season for the Armada, now with a new management composed of Gwdjohnson and Wearingabear. They finish second in the standing, right behind Quebec City. Points wise, Slava Petrov led the team with 54 points in 66 games, followed closely by linemates Theo Kondos at 52 and Pablo Salvatici at 50. This time Anchorage won their division so they did have a bye for the first round. They then swept Saint Louis in the second round, won against the best team in the league in the semi finals, the Quebec City Citadelles, in 7 games, and they won in the finals against Anaheim in 5 games. Anchorage just needed new management for them to win a 4 star cup it seems. Kondos led the team in scoring with 18 points in 16 games, followed by Salvatici with 17. Now onto awards, obviously the Armada won the 4 Star and the Linna-Landvik  Trophy (Western Champs). Gregory Goode won the Esa Anrikkanen Trophy (Top Rookie) Lemo Pihl was nominated for the Vyacheslav Onoprienko Trophy (Most Underrated Player), Chimkin Tendy was nominated for Cedric Robinson Trophy (Best Goalie), Chimkin Tendy and Theo Kondos were nominated for Brodie Witzel Trophy (Playoffs MVP), and Chimkin won it, Lemo Pihl was nominated for Brandon Holmes Trophy (Top Defensive Forward), and finally, Chimkin Tendy was nominated for the Raymond Lindsay (The Players MVP).

S58 66 GP | 36 G | 27 L | 3 OTL | 75 P | +18 DIFF : Bit of a rough regular season for Anchorage, ending 5th in the league standings. Paul Binder led the team in points with 42, followed by Salvatici with 40 and Tokkulu Lakkamaa with 38. Anchorage had another good playoffs run, winning the first round against Saint Louis 4-2, winning against Detroit in 5 games in round 2, winning against Newfoundland against in 5 games in the semi finals, but ultimately losing against Quebec City in 5 games in the finals. Salvatici was the playoffs points leader with 16 in 21 games. The Armada won the Linna-Landvik  Trophy (Western Champs) for a second season in a row, Pablo Salvatici won the Ronan O'Keefe Trophy (Playoffs Points Leader), Chimkin Tendy and Kojo Murata won the Matt  Lewis-Flood Trophy (Top Team Save Percentage), Lemo Pihl was nominated again for the Brandon Holmes Trophy (Top Defensive Forward), Jean-Locke Zidane was nominated for the Alexis Metzler Trophy (Top Defensive Defenseman), Chimkin Tendy won the Cedric Robinson Trophy (Best Goalie), Chimkin Tendy was nominated for the Ideen Fallah Trophy (Award Committee MVP), Pablo Salvatici was nominated for the Brodie Witzel Trophy (Playoffs MVP), and finally Chimkin Tendy was nominated for the Raymond Lindsay (The Players MVP).

S59 66 GP | 45 W | 16 L | 5 OTL | 95 P | +74 DIFF : Strong season from Anchorage, ending solid second in the league right behind Kelowna by 7 points. Pablo Salvatici led the team and the league in points, with 69(nice) points. Cole Carter is right behind him with 68. Yet another good playoffs showing by Anchorage, reaching the finals again. They beat Nevada in 5 games in the first round (Kelowna beat them for the bye), then they swept the Raptors easily in round 2, won 4-2 against QCC in the semis, but ultimately lost to Kelowna in 6 games in the finals. Cole Carter was the playoffs points with 21 points. That will give Anchorage their third Linna-Landvik  Trophy (Western Champs) in a row. Pablo Salvatici wins the Jared Hanson Trophy (Regular Season Points Leader), Cole Carter wins the Ronan O'Keefe Trophy (Playoffs Points Leader), GwdJohnson and Wearingabear were nominated for the Nour Harrak Award (Top GM Duo), Cole Carter won the Alex Light Trophy (Most Improved Player),  Gregory Goode was also nominated for it, Gregory Goode won the Quilha Agante Trophy (Best Defenseman), LaTrell McDonald was nominated for the Esa Anrikkanen Trophy (Top Rookie), Pablo Salvatici won the Ideen Fallah Trophy (Award Committee MVP), Cole Carter was nominated for the Brodie Witzel Trophy (Playoffs MVP), and finally Salvatici won the Raymond Lindsay (The Players MVP).

S60 66 GP | 46 W | 17 L | 3 OTL | 95 P | +116 DIFF : Another strong showing for the Armada, finishing in 3rd in the league standing, behind Newfoundland and Vancouver. Mikhail Novikov was leading the team in points with 67 points. Anchorage made another run to the finals, winning against Nevada in only 4 games in the first round, winning in game 7 against Colorado in the second round, then swept Quebec City in the semi finals, but in the end lost to Newfoundland in the finals in 6 games. Cole Carter was the point leader for Anchorage with 15. So awards wise, Anchorage won for the fourth time in a row the Linna-Landvik Trophy (Western Champs). Mikhail Novikov was nominated for the Alex Light Trophy (Most Improved Player), Ville Kuri won the Brandon Holmes Trophy (Top Defensive Forward), Gregory Goode was nominated for the Quilha Agante Trophy (Best Defenseman), Jean-Locke Zidane was nominated for the Alexis Metzler Trophy (Top Defensive Defenseman), Towelie won the Esa Anrikkanen Trophy (Top Rookie), Gregory Goode was nominated for the Ideen Fallah Trophy (Award Committee MVP)

After looking at all seasons, I think Anchorage has been very strong in the Gwdjohnson era, but not really before him. Therefore, Gwdjohnson is probably going to go down as the best GM Anchorage as ever seen, as he has literally reached the finals every single season since he's been GM. But otherwise, I feel like there's definitely been more dominant team in the FHM era, like Carolina or Newfoundland, but Anchorage is definitely one of the top teams.

more than 500 words i think

this conflicts with my idea that gabe sucks, so I can't accept this.
