SHL History for Dummies - Season 11 to 20

Parts in Series
  1. Part 1: Season 1 to 10
  2. Part 2: This one
  3. Part 3: Season 21 to 30
  4. Part 4: Season 31 to 40
  5. Part 5: Season 41 to 50
  6. Part 6: Season 51 to 60+
--------------------------------------------------

This is part two to my SHL History for Dummies series where I take a quick look at each season of the league and figure out who GM'd what team and what everyone's records were that year. The warning in the first part of the series still stands, this might be boring for a lot of you so apologies but I want cash and need to learn.

So for this part we will be looking at the next decade of games from the league.

Season 11 to 20

Season 11

League
  • The league finds the Edmonton Comets stayed where they are but changed their name to the Blizzard.
    - edit: revised thanks to post by OrbitingDeath in Part 1 of the series
Teams
  • Calgary Dragons (26-19-5)
  • Edmonton Blizzard (33-16-1) - Teztify joins Seth as GM and they re-brand the team from the Comets to the Blizzard
  • Hamilton Steelhawks (27-19-4) - Joecool37 takes over as GM from Jorec
  • Hartford Hydras (14-30-6)
  • Las Vegas Kings (20-25-5)
  • Los Angeles Panthers (21-24-5) - Dooley is replaced by Alex and Chris-McZehrl as GM
  • Manhattan Rage (24-20-6)
  • Minnesota Chiefs (38-11-1) - Munk takes over from founder Boon as GM
  • Texas Renegades (25-17-8)
  • Toronto North Stars (28-22-0)
  • West Kendall Platoon (8-38-4) - Maxy takes over from JayTee as GM
  • Winnipeg Jets (36-11-3)
Winners
  • Cup: Hamilton Steelhawks
  • MVP: Elias Armia of Texas
  • Goalie: John McBride of Winnipeg
  • Defender: Aidan Richan of Texas
Overview
  • The Hamilton Steelhawks win their first championship after 11 seasons. The almost always powerhouse West Kendall Platoon have an abysmal season while the rest of the league battle it out. Fairly competitive season with the exception of the previously mentioned team. Texas looking dangerous with both the MVP and best defensemen. John McBride continues his best goalie streak, now with his 5th win.
--------------------------------------------------

Season 12

League
  • The league regains a bit of its stability with no changes from the previous season.
Teams
  • Calgary Dragons (27-18-5) - spidey takes over from Jesster as GM
  • Edmonton Blizzard (24-20-6) - Teztify becomes sole GM as Seth is no longer one
  • Hamilton Steelhawks (33-17-0)
  • Hartford Hydras (16-28-6)
  • Las Vegas Kings (22-25-3)
  • Los Angeles Panthers (18-25-7) - Alex is no longer a GM leaving Chris-McZehrl as the only one
  • Manhattan Rage (26-22-2)
  • Minnesota Chiefs (33-15-2) - Founder Boon once again re-joins in his third official stint joining Munk as GM
  • Texas Renegades (22-21-7)
  • Toronto North Stars (33-13-4)
  • West Kendall Platoon (15-26-9)
  • Winnipeg Jets (31-16-3)
Winners
  • Cup: Minnesota Chiefs
  • MVP: Kain Webb of Calgary
  • Goalie: John McBride of Winnipeg
  • Defender: Jason Due of Las Vegas
Overview
  • The Minnesota Chiefs win their 2nd championship in the last 3 years. Boon keeps returning and the Chiefs keep winning cups. Really tight standings this season, maybe the closest one yet? Not sure the math on that but it is at least the closest in the newest era with 12 teams. John McBride is the winner for the record setting 6th time as best goalie. It will be his last one but he got it named after him. Jason Due winning his 2nd best defender award. Only the second player to do so with the other being Erik Chisling.
--------------------------------------------------

Season 13

League
  • The Hartford Hydras once again changed their team from the Hartford Hydras to the New England Wolfpack.
Teams
  • Calgary Dragons (28-17-5)
  • Edmonton Blizzard (32-12-6)
  • Hamilton Steelhawks (29-17-4)
  • Las Vegas Kings (16-26-8)
  • Los Angeles Panthers (15-28-7) - Taron47 takes over as GM from Chris-McZehrl
  • Manhattan Rage (31-16-3)
  • Minnesota Chiefs (29-18-3) - Munk steps away as Boon becomes the only GM
  • New England Wolfpack (20-23-7) - Ace takes over as GM from Fernando
  • Texas Renegades (26-19-5)
  • Toronto North Stars (24-19-7)
  • West Kendall Platoon (19-26-3)
  • Winnipeg Jets (31-13-6)
Winners
  • Cup: Edmonton Blizzard
  • MVP: Elias Armia of Texas
  • Goalie: Tom Corcoran of Edmonton
  • Defender: Zach Myers of Winnipeg
Overview
  • The Edmonton Blizzard win the championship for the first time as the Blizzard but it is the 3rd win for the franchise, the most of any team. Solid season from a competitive stand point and not a lot of changes from teams so the league is stabilizing a bit more. New names for the individual awards as well.
--------------------------------------------------

Season 14

League
  • The league runs the same as season 13, no changes.
Teams
  • Calgary Dragons (33-14-3) - O4L takes over for spidey as GM
  • Edmonton Blizzard (24-22-4)
  • Hamilton Steelhawks (30-16-4)
  • Las Vegas Kings (20-25-5) - Shutout and Duey is replaced by Gifter of Bikes as GM
  • Los Angeles Panthers (27-18-5) - Velevra joins Taron47 as GM
  • Manhattan Rage (30-16-4)
  • Minnesota Chiefs (18-27-5) - Toast replaces Boon as the GM
  • New England Wolfpack (27-20-3)
  • Texas Renegades (25-20-5)
  • Toronto North Stars (25-20-5)
  • West Kendall Platoon (17-25-8)
  • Winnipeg Jets (24-21-5)
Winners
  • Cup: Texas Renegades
  • MVP: Jason Due of Las Vegas
  • Goalie: Mike Verminski of Calgary
  • Defender: Jason Due of Las Vegas
Overview
  • Texas Renegades win their first championship. You could see it coming a couple seasons ago from the award winners that they would be a tough team. The league is humming right along now. Stable teams, real competitive standings and a new team winning the cup. Jason Due with the massive season winning MVP and best defender award (his third total). He might be the first defender to win MVP but I am not positive. The section I am using doesn't have positions listed.
--------------------------------------------------

Season 15

League
  • The Las Vegas Kings re-locate and re-brand to the Seattle Riot.
Teams
  • Calgary Dragons (24-21-5)
  • Edmonton Blizzard (38-7-5)
  • Hamilton Steelhawks (30-12-8)
  • Los Angeles Panthers (20-24-6) - Wasty replaces Velevra and Taron47 as GM
  • Manhattan Rage (10-37-3)
  • Minnesota Chiefs (15-31-4)
  • New England Wolfpack (36-13-1) - fever95 joins Ace as GM
  • Seattle Riot (21-21-8) - Gifter of Bikes re-locates the franchise from the Las Vegas Kings to the Seattle Riot
  • Texas Renegades (25-19-6)
  • Toronto North Stars (35-13-2)
  • West Kendall Platoon (24-23-3)
  • Winnipeg Jets (22-21-7)
Winners
  • Cup: Edmonton Blizzard
  • MVP: Jakub Aittokallio of Edmonton
  • Goalie: Jakub Aittokallio of Edmonton
  • Defender: Willie Weber of Edmonton
Overview
  • The Edmonton Blizzard extend their league leading championships by winning their 4th cup and their second repeat. I swear I spend half my review updating the Wisconsin Vancouver Las Vegas Seattle franchise. They would be Mike Sillinger if they were a retired NHL player. Edmonton dominated defensively having Jakub Aittokallio win both the MVP and best goaltender. Right after Jason Due winning MVP last season, it looks like the league has been tough on forwards. Not to mention Edmonton also having the best defender.
--------------------------------------------------

Season 16

League
  • No changes from the previous season.
Teams
  • Calgary Dragons (25-21-4)
  • Edmonton Blizzard (22-19-9)
  • Hamilton Steelhawks (29-15-6) - Malcontentcapsfan replaces Joecool37 as GM
  • Los Angeles Panthers (33-15-2)
  • Manhattan Rage (11-36-3) - Ochocinco replaces diamond_ace as GM
  • Minnesota Chiefs (17-30-3)
  • New England Wolfpack (41-9-0) - Ace is no longer a GM leaving fever95 as the only one
  • Seattle Riot (18-21-11)
  • Texas Renegades (27-20-3)
  • Toronto North Stars (33-12-5)
  • West Kendall Platoon (22-26-2)
  • Winnipeg Jets (22-21-7)
Winners
  • Cup: Edmonton Blizzard
  • MVP: Chris Partlow of Texas
  • Goalie: Edwin Ask of New England
  • Defender: Chris Partlow of Texas
Overview
  • Don't look now but a team is starting to run away with the championship record. The Edmonton Blizzard win and extend the record to 5 cup wins. They are also the first team to win three cups in four years which is what a lot of people determine what defines a dynasty. Another season where a non-forward wins MVP. This time it is Chris Partlow who takes home the MVP and best defender award.
--------------------------------------------------

Season 17

League
  • I believe this is the first time in league history where it is two seasons in a row without any teams or game amounts changing.
Teams
  • Calgary Dragons (29-15-6)
  • Edmonton Blizzard (27-20-3)
  • Hamilton Steelhawks (31-13-6) - LVShark replaces Malcontentcapsfan as GM
  • Los Angeles Panthers (29-16-5)
  • Manhattan Rage (15-30-5)
  • Minnesota Chiefs (22-23-5)
  • New England Wolfpack (29-16-5)
  • Seattle Riot (21-24-5)
  • Texas Renegades (24-20-6)
  • Toronto North Stars (29-17-4) - Maxy changes teams from GM'ing the Platoon between S11 and S16 to replacing founder jkrever after 16 seasons running the club
  • West Kendall Platoon (22-23-5) - Syckez takes over for Maxy as GM
  • Winnipeg Jets (22-23-5)
Winners
  • Cup: Los Angeles Panthers
  • MVP: Chris McZehrl of Seattle
  • Goalie: Mike Verminski of Calgary
  • Defender: Darian Scherbluk of Toronto / Chris Partlow of Texas
Overview
  • Los Angeles Panthers win the championship for the 2nd time in their franchise history (last won in S6). The league appears as stable as it has ever been with relatively low GM turnover and team changes. Mike Verminski wins the best goaltender award for his 2nd time in his career. There is a tie for the best defender award for the first time in league history. This is now Chris Partlow's 2nd career best defender award.
--------------------------------------------------

Season 18

League
  • No changes from previous season. Now third year in a row.
Teams
  • Calgary Dragons (22-20-8)
  • Edmonton Blizzard (34-10-6)
  • Hamilton Steelhawks (29-17-4)
  • Los Angeles Panthers (25-23-2)
  • Manhattan Rage (35-13-2)
  • Minnesota Chiefs (29-17-4) - HabsFanFromOntario takes over for Toast as GM
  • New England Wolfpack (23-23-4)
  • Seattle Riot (22-18-10)
  • Texas Renegades (23-23-4)
  • Toronto North Stars (11-33-6)
  • West Kendall Platoon (20-24-6)
  • Winnipeg Jets (27-17-6)
Winners
  • Cup: Seattle Riot
  • MVP: Joe McKeil of Hamilton
  • Goalie: Sterling Slade of Manhattan
  • Defender: Darian Scherbluk of Manhattan
Overview
  • Finally something positive about the Seattle franchise! They win their first championship in franchise history. This is a record in stability for the league with only one rookie GM this season. The standings look tight, another new team won the cup. League looking strong. Scherbluk wins his 2nd consecutive best defender award, this time without sharing it with Chris Partlow.
--------------------------------------------------

Season 19

League
  • Yet another season with very little changes. Only two GM changes.
Teams
  • Calgary Dragons (27-21-2)
  • Edmonton Blizzard (22-18-10)
  • Hamilton Steelhawks (35-10-5)
  • Los Angeles Panthers (27-17-6)
  • Manhattan Rage (30-16-4)
  • Minnesota Chiefs (9-37-4) - Banjo Kazooie replaces HabsFanFromOntario as GM
  • New England Wolfpack (26-15-9)
  • Seattle Riot (28-19-3)
  • Texas Renegades (23-24-3)
  • Toronto North Stars (24-18-8) - JNH replaces Maxy as the GM
  • West Kendall Platoon (19-29-2) - NathanAD takes another run as GM (S2 to S7 GM of Calgary) replacing founder Wadey
  • Winnipeg Jets (30-18-2)
Winners
  • Cup: Winnipeg Jets
  • MVP: Carter O'Callahan of New England
  • Goalie: Lauris Prikulis of Winnipeg
  • Defender: Darian Scherbluk of Manhattan
Overview
  • Winnipeg wins their franchises 3rd cup making them the 2nd most successful team behind Edmonton and their 5 cups. I have to point out a dismal season by the Minnesota Chiefs with only 9 wins. The rest of the teams seem fairly balanced. Darian Scherbluk wins his 3rd consecutive best defender trophy and only the 2nd defender to win it 3 times. Jason Due being the other one in S9, S12, and S14.
--------------------------------------------------

Season 20

League
  • 50 games, 12 teams, all in the same location and with the same name. Same as previous season(s).
Teams
  • Calgary Dragons (24-20-6)
  • Edmonton Blizzard (26-22-2)
  • Hamilton Steelhawks (35-13-2)
  • Los Angeles Panthers (26-15-9)
  • Manhattan Rage (15-30-5) - Nike takes over as GM from Ochocinco
  • Minnesota Chiefs (8-34-8)
  • New England Wolfpack (24-22-4) - Ace re-joins fever95 as co-GM
  • Seattle Riot (34-12-4)
  • Texas Renegades (33-14-3)
  • Toronto North Stars (28-20-2)
  • West Kendall Platoon (21-20-9)
  • Winnipeg Jets (26-18-6)
Winners
  • Cup: Texas Renegades
  • MVP: Joe McKeil of Hamilton
  • Goalie: Jordin FourFour of Texas
  • Defender: Chris Partlow of Texas
Overview
  • We finish out the decade with a Texas Renegades championship. This is their 2nd in franchise history. Once again the Minnesota Chiefs hit single digit wins with 8 after a 9 spot last season. Rough few years for that franchise. Joe McKeil wins his 2nd MVP of his career while Chris Partlow wins his 3rd career award for best defender.
--------------------------------------------------

Season 11 to 20 Overview

This decade of games really represents stability. We started with 12 teams and finished with 12. There were a few re-locations of teams but far fewer than the first decade and the amount of GM turnover really settled down in the last 5+ seasons. A dynasty popped up in Edmonton but other teams from the league got a chance and won as well. Overall a very successful looking decade of games.
