Los Angeles Panther Team Awards and Announcement
#1

[Image: Rz9e0eN.png]
For those outside of the Los Angeles Panthers organization, it may seem as if we haven't done an internal team awards in some time. I mean, for anyone who looks at our Team History section of our team subforum, it appears as if we haven't done awards since S30, or S39 depending on what you're going by. And to those who would think that, well, you'd be right for the most part. When TheDangaZone and I took over just a short time ago, our focus was mainly on rebuilding the team that we overlooked team awards in the beginning. Shortly before TheDangaZone decided to step down, prior to S62, we decided together to bring back internal team awards to the Los Angeles Panthers. These team awards, though, weren't all the same. We took a look back at the team awards that the Los Angeles Panthers had given out and decided that a few of them needed a bit of a facelift. While we had and have our reasons, those reasons will be kept behind closed doors for now. However, with the announcement of our S63 internal team awards be sharing the new slate of awards for the Los Angeles Panthers, and who each award is named after.

If you've read this far, thank you, and welcome to the S63 Los Angeles Panthers Team Awards post! We have a small announcement to make following the conclusion of the naming of our award winners!

Disclaimer: The award names were decided between TheDangaZone and myself.

To start things off, we have a brand new award to announce for the locker room leader! This award is named after an absolute legend within the team and on the site. This user has been an absolutely amazing and genuine human being in every locker room they've been a part of and when we thought of the award, there was no more obvious of a choice than this user. So it is our pleasure and honor to announce the Jimmy Slothface Award for Locker Room Leadership, named after the user @slothfacekilla!

Throughout S63, there were a number of different Panthers that this award could have gone to. The winner of this award was available day in and day out, never hesitated to help anyone who needed it, and always was there to build everyone up, especially when they may have needed it. This user also happens to be a team-voted alternate captain, so for him to be the locker room leader that he is comes as no surprise. Congratulations to this season's winner of the newly minted Jimmy Slothface Award for Locker Room Leadership........

Jonas Kahnwald!
@Festinator

The next award in our team awards lineup is our Rookie of the Year award. This award will remain unchanged from the previous iteration of the award with the name staying the same.....the Chris Crutchfield award for Rookie of the Year! The Los Angeles Panthers did not have a rostered rookie for the S63 season, so this award will not be awarded for last season.

Following the Chris Crutchfield award is the award for Unsung Hero! This award is being renamed for one of the more recent team legends. Los Angeles has had plenty of high scoring players in its history, but this award is being renamed for a player who was known league wide but wasn't the top dog during his career. A player who sparked fear in the eyes of opposing players, a player who was not afraid to get into the dirty areas and do what must be done. Our Award for Unsung Hero of the season: The Danny "Bananas" Foster Award, named after the user @GCool!

During the S63 season, this player was called on to play the minutes that not many other players enjoy playing. This player spent the most time on the penalty kill for Panthers forwards, was second on the team in hits, and was very stout defensively only allowing 26.2 shots against per 60 minutes. Congratulations to this season's winner of the newly renamed Danny "Bananas" Foster Award for Unsung Hero of the Season........

Bryce McMahon!
@MN_Moosey

The next award in our lineup is our award for Best Defenseman! With a history like that of the Los Angeles Panthers, it was almost impossible to decide on the name of this award. That is, it felt impossible until we realized that the answer was staring us in the face. This person and player stood out as someone who played consistent shutdown defense throughout his career without letting up in the offensive end. This was also a user who was an MVP in the locker room for Los Angeles in their career, and even a little bit after as well. Very much deserving of having an award named after them, we are excited to announce our newly named award for Best Defenseman: The Jon Toner Award, named after the user @JT3!

During S63, there really was one defenseman who stood out head and shoulders above the rest as deserving of the award. This player lead the team in relative Corsi%, goals allowed/60, was second in blocks, lead the team in defensive game rating, and had a +/- almost triple that of the player with the second best +/- on the team. Offensively, this player was even tied for 3rd in assists on the season! Congratulations to this season's winner of the newly renamed Jon Toner Award for Best Defenseman........

Keith Lee!
@TheDangaZone

Our next award is for Team Leadership and Best Team Representative! Going through the Panther's greats and legends, there was one user who stood out above the rest as a user who you be hard pressed to find a negative about. This is a user who always had a huge presence on the forums during their time in Los Angeles, and while their new player isn't a Panther, that doesn't change the profound effect they had on the Los Angeles organization. We are excited to announce our newly named award for Team Leadership and Best Team Representative: the Sophia Bennett Award, named after the user @goilers!

The S63 winner of this award, much like Soph, is an enormous presence both in the locker room and on the forums. This user is an insanely positive person in ever interaction you have with them, and the effect they have on the people around them is truly inspiring to see. We are very lucky to have her be a part of the Los Angeles organization, and it has been a privilege to share a locker room with them. Congratulations to this season's winner of the newly renamed Sophia Bennett Award for Team Leadership and Best Team Representative........

Sarah Burke!
@Kyamprac

The next award we are giving out is the award for Most Improved Player! This award is being renamed for a player who is top-5 all time in Panthers scoring and whose name shows up all over the past team awards and even league awards. This user was a staple of the Los Angeles Panthers with multiple players, even as recently as during my tenure here in Los Angeles. Our newly named award for Most Improved Player: the Jean-Luc Reflieux Award for Most Improved Player, named after @vbottas17!

Deciding a winner for this award for S63 was, admittedly, quite tough. Across the board as a team we took a step back in terms of comparing regular season performance. The winner of this award didn't see an improvement upon their offensive numbers, actually registering a point less than they did in S62. However, this player took a massive step forward in their defensive game, registering more blocks, hits, and a much higher Corsi% than they did in S62. Despite the lower point total, this player actually improved upon their goals for per 60 minutes, goals against per 60 minutes, shots for per 60 minutes, and shots against per 60 minutes! Point totals aren't everything, and this player was the perfect example of why it matters to look at all available statistics, and not just how many points they produced. Congratulations to this season's winner of the newly renamed Jean-Luc Reflieux Award for Most Improved Player........

Cormac Ponaire!
@wumaduce

Our final two awards are more streamlined than the awards listed above. Previously, the team's Brian Morley Award was given to the team's Most Valuable Player. After giving it a good bit of thought, TheDangaZone and I decided to instead make the Brian Morley Award be given out for our Highest Points Scored Award instead of being given to the Most Valuable Player. We felt this still properly paid homage to the player and user while opening the door for the Most Valuable Player award to get a much deserved rename.

For our Most Valuable Player Award, there was one person and player who stood out above the rest as the right person for this award to be named after. A person who was a Panther at heart every day of their career, this user spent 18 seasons donning the teal and orange. This user has had a profound affect on the site and on the team, and is one of the last true legends of the site around. When they finally hung up their skates, this player racked up 835 points for the Panthers and achieved just about everything except the Cup during their time in Los Angeles. The newest name for the Most Valuable Player award: the Philipp Winter Award for Most Valuable Player, named after @RomanesEuntDomus!

Looking at the index, it is quite easy to see who is this season's winner of the Brian Morley Award for Highest Points Scored. Just shy of a point-per-game pace, congratulations to........

Rock Strongo!
@Leafs4ever

I can't understate how much this player meant to the team last season, nor can I undersell the value they brought on the ice and how much they propped up the rest of the team. Congratulations to this seaosn's winner of the Philipp Winter Award for Most Valuable Player........

Keith Lee!
@TheDangaZone

Congratulations to all of our award winners for S63!

As you all may or may not know, a few seasons ago we made the switch from the iconic Panthers emblem to the logo that we use as our primary today. The "new" logo was used as the team's alternate logo for quite some time, and we felt it was time for a fresh look while still paying homage to the man whose brand this truly is. However, what we didn't do when switching logos was introduce a new set of jerseys. This isn't a major change or thing to miss, but I felt it was a little bit overdue to introduce a new set of sweaters for the Los Angeles Panthers. The new threads are essentially exactly what the new logo is: a fresh take on the Panthers classics. You'll see a very similar theme and look when comparing these new threads to the old ones, but with the updated logo and a new font. Introducing the new jerseys of the Los Angeles Panthers!

Congrats to all the award winners!

It really means a lot to have Toner's name amongst Panthers greats. I'm not as active in the locker room as these days as I'd like to be, but LA will always be a special spot for me. So thanks again guys!
