The End of the Wild West: Start of the Gold Rush Era
#1
(This post was last modified: 05-02-2022, 01:20 PM by Fluw. Edited 1 time in total.)

When I initially joined the site it was during the S45 expansion era where we saw the Lethbridge Lions, now Newfoundland Berserkers, and Anaheim Outlaws enter the league as fledgling franchises. Since that time the Outlaws have gone on to win the S47 Four Star Cup and the S52 Four Star Cup, and have created a number of very successful and fantastic users to the site.

Upon taking over the Anaheim Outlaws, Newff and I were determined to bring the locker room to life as a large portion of the roster was either aging out, or had already gone inactive. We successfully had a phenomenal injection of users in our last draft, truly putting the Outlaws on the path we envisioned for it, a place where users both rookie and veteran can either develop, or strengthen their love for the league. With the groundwork set, we felt that the last step to truly making the team feel as if it’s our own, and the final piece to the puzzle we had decided it was time for a re brand.

We had come up with four possible locations that we felt would be a perfect fit for the SMJHL noting that they were locations that were typically underrepresented in all sports, both at the national level, and junior level. The location that we ended up settling on was one that has rarely if ever saw themselves with a pro sports franchise and we really felt would add diversity to the SHL.

With that being said Anaheim will be relocating to:

The Yukon!

The reason we chose the Yukon was due to the fact that I personally have a thing for Northern Canadian Territories and feel that they are extremely underrepresented in major sports. By selecting the Yukon as a location we felt that we could truly bring attention to and celebrate the culture and beauty that this territory has to offer, and feel that it fits in perfectly with being a smaller hockey market. We felt that a team located here would not only represent the Yukon itself but all the other small northern Canadian communities in the North West Territories, Northern British Columbia, and Nunavut, and would bring fans of all communities together to enjoy the sport we all so dearly love. The team would be located in the capital city of the Yukon , Whitehorse which bolsters small city life with beautiful views on the basalt cliffs of Miles Canyon, a former gold rush town, and nestled on the Yukon River.

After some deep thought on what branding we should go with for the team, we felt we wanted to select something that was rooted deep in the history of the region, and really meant something to the people living there.

Announcing the..

Yukon Malamutes

Primary Logo:

The primary logo symbolizes the Alaskan Malamute which played a major role in transportation during the gold rush era, as dog sled teams delivered mail and rations to would be miners. The ears on the Malamute represent the mountains of the Yukon responsible for delivering that sweet gold.

Alternate Logo:

The alternate logo stand in representation of Saint Elias Mountain Chain located in the Yukon which boasts the tallest peak in Canada, and second tallest in North America , Mount Logan.

I would like to thank Teddy for taking the time to work with me and provide me with these amazing logos, and Jersey’s. You are really a saint, and truly captured exactly what I envisioned when I came up with this idea, and I seriously cannot thank you enough. Additionally would like to give a thank you to Carpy for helping with the player page, and update buttons!

In summary, we had selected the Malamutes as we wanted to use branding that was deeply rooted in the location we had chosen for the team. In this case the Yukon truly saw its golden age when the Gold Rush occurred in the Klondike. People from all over the country were flocking to the Yukon to get the chance at making it big by mining for gold however with the conditions in Canada’s North as they were, it was dangerous to say the least. Alaskan Malamutes were relied on as sled dogs to deliver miners rations from nearby towns to their mine sites, as well as delivering mail from town to town. Not only that but these beautiful creatures were also handy when it came to keeping warm on those freezing nights as they were wonderful cuddle buddies. The Malamute is a symbol of strength, and endurance surviving and thriving in some of the harshest conditions we can imagine, much like the people who call this land home. The Malamute is so important to the Yukon it is seen atop the coat of arms, as a representation of the resiliency of the people of this land.

To a final point going to the route of moving to the Yukon was truly meant to be noting that the Wild West ended around 1895, and in 1896 the Yukon Gold Rush began, as a bit of a fun fact.

The colours you see selected for our team are representative of those found directly on the Yukon Coat of Arms and each has a significant representation to the territory. Firstly the Blue and White represent the Yukon River and it’s many creeks and streams present in the Klondike where gold is present, while the red signifies the mountain ranges found in the territory which contain mineral wealth.

With that being said, we wanted to have a fresh start with this franchise and truly take the steps to make it an attractive destination for current and future players and truly building their interest in the league so that they may feel the same way we do towards it, with love and sense of community, and by re branding we feel that we will be able to accomplish just that, a fresh start to a bright future.

The history of the Anaheim Outlaws will never be forgotten and will live on in the Outlaw Vault for players new and old to witness the legends that came before, and their accomplishments.

Thank your for coming to my TED talk, if you have any questions message Newff he told me he likes random DM’s.

Eh, if only we, the old players, could actually reach out to that vault. Team could've been taken bloody anywhere but it'd be nice to at least be allowed to see our old messages or something. Hell, the small chat I had with Emi was over at the LR.

The rebrand is alright but the dog looks a bit bored and the name might be a bit too creative for its own good.
