NEWFOUNDLAND BERSERKER DRAFT FACTS S68
The S69 SHL draft saw 5 forwards get drafted to the big leagues from NL. Oddly enough, this isn't the first time that only Fs have come out of NL during the draft. Seasons 48, 52, and 60 also only had forwards taken from NL, however it was only 1, 2, and 2 players respectively, compared to 5 last weekend. In fact, the 5 forwards taken ties a franchise record for most Zerk draftees of a single positional group in a single draft (S50 forwards, S54 defenseman, S62 forwards)
At 8OA, EDM selected @Count Chocula is the highest Zerk draftee since S63, when we had someone get taken 7th overall. That 7th overall pick was HFFO, the man who just drafted choc. Small world.
Our other 1st round selection was BUF taking @Samsung virtual assistant at 18OA. BUF has selected some notable NL users like luffy, burd, and lime, however it's been since S58 (11 years in the SHL world) since they've drafted a Zerk. Their last NL picks were Billy Brooks and Leon Athanasios in that year.
Representing the Zerks in the 2nd round, @.simo was taken at 28 by ATL, beating out the Inferno's last NL draftee by one spot (Big Mack at 29 in S62). Simo joins a long list of users that are now on their 2nd player to be drafted to the SHL from this franchise, and in fact all of our first 3 picks this draft join him in that list as well. With his last player getting drafted by PHI, simo starts an exclusive list of having multiple players being drafted by FHM era expansion teams.
At 42OA, it would be low hanging fruit for @Matty7478 draft fact to be about the sheer amount of players CHI has drafted out of NL....so that's exactly what I'm going to make it about. With their 17th selection of an NL player all-time, CHI grows their lead in that category over MIN (13) and EDM (10).
And finally, @AJK987 rounds out this F group (for Forward, not talent level) a few picks later to TEX at 46. AJK joins a very small list of Zerks drafted to the lone star state, that includes just Ava in S62, and (throwback) Cal Clucker in S49. He becomes the only F ever taken to TEX from NL, and with already a large increase in his TPE gains the past few weeks, he could easily enter the conversation of one of the bigger Zerk steals by an SHL team if he keeps up that trajectory.
