I would like to preface this by saying this is not a Thunderdome.

So from my understanding, the HoF committee is dead-ish. I served on the Committee for many seasons during the peak of my activity, so seeing the Committee in the state its in today makes me sad. I could be misinformed, but I heard that many of the past few seasons have already been voted, however the Committee has had trouble finding someone to host the ceremonies.

If this is true, what kind of ceremony is the Committee looking for? Live or just a write-up of some sorts? I hate to see such an important part of any sim league suffer, especially one that creates a long-term goal for all users here. Let me know, I may be able to host some ceremonies to kick off the HoF Committee again. Cheers

I’d reach out to @CementHands because the job posting for the ceremony has been up here for a few months now, I think he might be able to tell you what he’s looking for!

So, I have been meaning to write a response to this a few times in the past when others have brought up thoughts, issues, or complaints about the current state of the HoF Committee.

so, here it is.

Krash took over as committee head a while back and there was some decent momentum early on. A big gap that was there was in regards to compiling data for all players on the ballot and being able to judge between players. I stepped up and worked hard to mitigate that by creating two different excel sheets (unfortunately all manual input because there is and was no way for me to compile this information (and if there was, anyone with the know-how did not offer it). You can see those two sheets here.

Both were things that required me to update them every single season (one to add any new players to the Hall), and the other to add any new player that was joining the next season ballot to the spreadsheet, and remove any player that was no longer eligible. This was a painstaking task that often had me up until 2 or 3 in the morning on a week night attempting to get this data ready. It was vastly unsustainable for me in my previous job (work from home), but became increasingly taxing for me with my new job (in person job 50ish hours each week). I've got two young boys at home and it basically meant all of my free time was going towards things that were "extra" jobs I picked up simply because no one else was willing.

To compound the issue, each season Krash (thanks to his hard work) found more and more players that previously were missed by earlier committees/votes that required us to pause and ensure we had everyone on the ballot. There was no tracking of what players aged out and were eligible (or at least, no method that was passed down to us), and if you follow everything so far, all of this is manual labour that is extremely tedious.

I messaged Krash about two months ago apologizing that I simply did not have the time in my day to continue helping at the level I was previously (I am a GM here, Fed Head, Assistant to Canadice in the SSL, etc), and something had to give.

My advice for anyone who cares, and wants to see this thrive, step up and help. Message Krash, etc.

and again, I apologize for no longer being able to compile the data that I used to, it was a huge asset for the voting members of the committee

I can confirm that it took me four days to research and write the article that started all this, and it was just an article that had a few things missing.

I can imagine that it’s a lot more work for the actual thing.

To answer the what kind of ceremony I am looking for, that's very open. In the past few months I have had a grand total of 1 informal discussion with 1 member about hosting one, and I have also been talking with the Events group on an additional one. I'm trying to fight fires one issue at a time and decided that fixing the eligibility sheet that I wrongfully assumed was a correct list when I took over took precedence. I agree, it sucks we have only had one ceremony since I've been in the fold. Not defending it.

If anyone is interested, please reach out to me, we will have work shortly and I'd love a list i can go through once we are ready to go.
