Vancouver has a very stacked team once again in the SMJHL, and they have three rookies who are going to be looking to contribute to a Four Star Cup in S73. Here's a look at these rookies and their potential (and progress) so far!

GM's Son
GM's Son is a 6'4" center who hails from Montreal, but proudly proclaims his American dual citizenship. Ironically, his first international games were played on loan to Team ICE in the World Juniors Championship, where he collected 2 points in 12 games in group play. GM's Son is the son of the Montreal Patriotes' GM, and he is just as cocky as being a GM's Son would make one think, as he wears #99 and parties hard. He is a very offensively oriented player, with quick hands and a very high offensive IQ, especially for his age. His defensive skills leave something to be desired, insofar as he pays very little attention on defense for a center, but they are passable. Look for him to be more of a 1C as opposed to a 2nd or 3rd line center. Through 3 games in the young season, he has 1 assist, and is collecting time on the 1st line PK unit for Vancouver, as the Whalers look to improve his defensive skills.

Erno Joonas
Erno Joonas is another 6'4" forward, specifically a right winger, though he hails from Tampere, Finland. Joonas currently is something of a two-way forward, with good physicals, as he is quick and strong on his feet, able to outskate opponents with ease. Offensively he is god all-around, though his passing leaves something to be desired. Defensively he is great for a winger, willing to lay the body, block a shot, and generally having a decent defensive IQ and ability for a winger at his age. Like GM's Son, Joonas has one assist through the first 3 games of the young season. Look for Joonas to develop into a solid two-way, top 6 winger. Joonas has started the season on the 3rd line with GM's Son as the center. If the two of them develop well, they will hopefully gain chemistry and look to feed off of each other on the ice. Joonas has also been receiving some PK time on the 3rd line PK unit for the Whalers, exploiting his strong defensive prowess on the wing.

Joulu Kuusi
Joulu Kuusi is a 6'1" goaltender, hailing from Kärjenniemi, Finland. The second of the Finnish pair of Whalers rookies, Kuusi is a good all around goaltender, not particularly weak or strong in any one area, though his ability when facing low shots is probably the strongest part of his game. Kuusi enters this season as the backup behind Vancouver's stout starter in Scary Jerry, who is entering his age out season. Vancouver is certainly hoping they are able to develop Kuusi into a strong starter to replace Jerry for next season. Kuusi has made one start this season, allowing 5 goals on 37 shots in a 5-3 loss against Yukon.
