S74 PT # 4 - Analyze Deez

The best set play in Andren's opinion is what he affectionally calls: butt meet goalie. Developed by him during practice, it involves
him coming in from the right wing. Andren then swings in front of the goalie and plants himself there. It seems like the common screening tactic but that's where it gets tricky. Then comes the shot from centre, seemingly just into the screen and yeah, if that happens then that's a bonus but what is really intended is for Andren to intercept the shot and pass it out to the now open left winger who then actually shoots it into the hopefully opened net, right past the bamboozled goalie. It has all the elements that Andren loves: goals, screening the goalie, butts and getting in your opponents heads. Andren feels certain that they never expect there to be the short pass to the side from directly in front of the net and that is why it's his favourite play to attempt.

I am a huge personal fan of handsome/60. This is a measure of how handsome the team is on average for 60 minutes. For example, when the New York rangers had Henrik Lundqvist, their handsome per sixty was through the roof. I’m talking historic levels of handsome. If a player takes a puck to the face and looses teeth, the player’s team drops in handsome per sixty. Another good advanced stat that I would like to start measuring is dives/60. This would be a measure on how much a player dives per sixty minutes of hockey. The leaders in this stat would be the most dislikable players in the league as there is nothing more annoying than a diver. It is incredibly poor sportsmanship and this stat would be great at outing the players who do it the most. Maybe it will discourage players from doing it more if it gets tracked so heavily
