Tommy Tuck
@Muford

½ of the Tuck brothers. One a defenseman, the other a goalie. Both Hall of Fame players. But what do we say about Tommy Tuck? The goalie behind the Edmonton franchise. It's a big name to live up to considering the goalies of the past like Jakub Aittokallio and Brett Broadway. But he stood up to the occasion, delivered seasons as big as them, and a career to rival the best goalies of his time.

So who is Tommy Tuck? Born in Norway, coming over to North America to play hockey. Drafted by Prince George in the SMJHL, Toronto 10th OA in the SHL. Tommy Tuck first played in Toronto for 3 ½ seasons, where in the middle of the season Tuck was traded to Edmonton in S43. The official trade was Tommy Tuck + 1st for Michael McFadden + 2nd. A big trade where Tuck goes to Edmonton to play with his brother. Toronto gets one of the best goalies ever. But we are here to focus on Tommy.

Immediately for his first full season in Edmonton, he breaks out. Going 29-11-4 with 4 shutouts posting a .912 SV%, Tuck gets his first McBride nomination, and a 3rd All Star team to pair with it. A very impressive start to Tuck’s career in Edmonton. But what happens in S45, nobody expected

.931.
38 wins
5 losses
1 otl
A stateline nobody has seen before in STHS since S10 where Ryan Jesster went 39-3-2. 35 seasons later, someone got close. And that was Tommy Tuck. Different era’s, different teams, more competition. Tommy had one of the best seasons ever for a goalie. Not stopping in the regular season, he marched them all the way to his first challenge cup, and got a Razov nom for that as well. His first mega season. 1st All Star, Razov nom, Cup, McBride Win, Honcho Win, Ron Mexico Win.

S47 he would also have another mega season, although not to the stats of 38 wins. Just a modest 30-13-1 with 4 shutouts and a .918 sv%. But with that, comes another swath of awards. Ron Mexico Nomination, Mike Honcho Win, McBride Win, 1st All Star. At this point, he is starting to become one of the best goalies ever. At the end of S47 he would be sitting at 189 wins, good for 30th all time in goalie wins at that time. Already with a Ron Mexico Win and Nomination. Challenge Cup under his belt. 2 McBride wins, 2 Honcho wins. What happened over his final 6 seasons really secured that legacy.

S49, another Challenge Cup to add to his trophy case, and another Razov nomination. S50 you got a 3rd All Star team. S51 another great season, earning his 3rd Mcbride win, 3rd honcho win, and another 1st All Star. S52, you got his 4th Mike Honcho award, and 3rd All Star.
With S53 being his final season, being regulated to 1A goalie, being a tandem with Emiko Spector as she started to turn into the starter for Edmonton. At the end of S53, Tuck retired, with the legacy of being one of the best goalies in Edmonton, and the SHL.

Ending with 333 wins, 208 losses, 39 OTL, and 27 shutouts. Earning him the spot for 6th most wins ever for a goalie at that time. One of the prolific goalies of the S40’s, on one of the best teams of that decade. Tommy Tuck was a major reason behind their 2 cup wins, as well as their regular season success. 20 seasons later, he is 17th in all time wins.

Who is Tommy Tuck? I'll let some of his former GM’s and players say who he is.

His first GM, Karlssens had this to say about him, looking back after acquiring him.
“Tommy was a much needed upgrade so we went all in to acquire him. The immediate return was less than desirable. Far less. We won like 3 of the last 15 games and fell out of the playoff picture. It really put a damper on the locker room vibe as we had qualified the last 4 seasons and were trending upwards. Fortunately the gang remained upbeat and everyone stuck around. What happened next? Tommy bounced back in a big way in season 44 and backstopped the team to its best record since S27. :”

Remember that time rookie Tommy Tuck showed up to IIHF in S38 and decided "Norway's going to play for a gold medal this season because I said so?" That was fun.
