Steve Harrington

@Lime

A Buffalo legend. A s53 legend, Steve Harrington will go down in the record books as one of the best players of the FHM era. A player that went above a PPG for over his whole career, we will see why Steve is ranked 45th in the league. First, let's go back to the draft. Getting drafted in S53, Steve was drafted 3rd OA to the Buffalo Stampede. Where he would remain there for the next 19 seasons. Still playing today, Steve has remained a key contributor.

S56 would be his first official season in the league. As a rookie in Buffalo, Steve had a good start to his career. 11 goals, 24 assists for 35 points. He was good enough for Rookie All Star, and a Ryan Jesster nomination. Not a win, but good enough to be in the running. S57 & S58 looked similar. Scoring 36 points and 45 points over those 2 seasons. Slowly getting better as he kept on earning TPE.

S69 would be his first good/great season in the league. Scoring 20 goals, 41 assists for 61 points. This is the first time Steve would flirt with being a PPG. Though next season and the subsequent 9 seasons will prove that to be the case though. With the turn of the decade, we saw Steve take the next step as a player in S60. Scoring 22 goals, 59 assists for a career high 81 points. Good for 8th in the league for points. His first elite season in the league. That season as well, Steve won his first Challenge Cup of his career as well.

S61 would see Steve continue his dominance. 21 goals, 57 assists for 78 points. He earned his first real accolades as well. Getting on the 2nd All Star Team. He was 8th again in the league in points. Continuing to be a top 10 player in the league for the 2nd time in a row.

S62 would be his best season, or his peak season of his career. Increasing his scoring a lot. Harrington scored 39 goals, 59 assists for 98 points. Quite a leap in goals from year over year, as his shooting percentage went from 7.2% and 7.7% the last 2 seasons all the way up to 13.4% this season. FInally getting lucky, Steve benefited from it. Steve was 2nd in the league this season in points, and from that he earned 1st All Star, and his first and only Ron Mexico nomination.

S63 saw him continue to be one of the best players in the league. Scoring 37 goals, 34 assists for 71 points. Steve’s goal scoring continued to be his strength, as his shooting percentage remained at the 12-13% he was scoring last season. This season he was tied for 13th in the league in scoring this season.

S64 is just a continuation of his dominance really. Already 4 seasons in a row for being a top 10 player in the league. He kept on that pace, scoring 39 goals, 47 assists for 87 points. Earning 3rd All Star team, he was 3rd in the league in points that season. His 2nd time being in the top 5 in points for the season. S65 Steve regressed back into the 70 point realm. Only scoring 76 points that season. Only good for 15th in the league in points. Steve was a mainstay in the league. A player with 5 seasons of being in the top 15 in scoring. On a dominant Buffalo team.

S66 showed him bounce back up into the 80’s for points. Scoring 33 goals, 52 assists for 85 points. Though, with the switch to FHM8 showed points totals getting higher and higher. So the 85 points only resulted in 20th in the league in scoring that season. S67 saw similar, scoring 79 points that season. Tied for 22nd in scoring that season. After that 6 season stretch for being one of the best players. He is now settling for being one of the great players in the league.

S68 would be his final season over a PPG. As regression was kicking in high gear for Steve. Scoring 45 goals, 41 assists for 86 points. This would be his last great season. Tied for 16th in scoring, it would be the last hurrah for Steve.

S69 would show Steve his age, as well as playing in reduced minutes. Only scoring 59 points that season. S70 would be the same as well, only scoring 59 points that season. Though, S70 would mark Steve reaching the 1000 point club. Becoming the 11th player to reach that mark.

S71 wouldn't mark a good regular season. Only 53 points for that season, however Steve won his 2nd Challenge Cup with the Stampede. S72 would show Steve getting a career low 44 points over his career. And his last season with the Stampede. After 16 seasons with the Stampede, and with his TPE getting lower and lower. He was no longer in the plans for them.

Off to Toronto he goes. S73 provided a nice bump for Steve's overall numbers. 26 goals, 42 assists for 68 points. His last time over a PPG in his career. S74 would see Steve move to the Tampa Bay Barracuda in this trade. Scoring 44 points in 62 games, he would be on the move  for one final time. S75 would see Steve move to Chicago for this season. So far this season, Steve has scored 20 points in 29 games played.

Overall, Steve’s career total would be 1263 games played, 487 goals, 777 assists for 1264 points. Still above a Point per game with those numbers of games played is super impressive. 4th in all time points. One of the best S60’s player, a Buffalo Stampede Legend, and well deserving to be on this list.
