SHL75: #28: Chris McZehrl
#1

Chris McZehrl
@Chris-McZehrl

Drafted 18th OA in the 2nd Round to the West Kendall Platoon, Chris McZehrl did not last long in West Kendall. In this rookie season, only scored 1 goal and 2 assists in 28 games played. Chris was moved to Los Angeles mid-season. Ending his rookie season with 3 goals, 4 assists for 7 points. A humble start for a player who ended up being one of the best players ever in the SHL.

S9 showed major improvement on Chris’s part. Scoring 10 goals, 22 assists for 32 points. S10 though, was a leap in astronomical ways. Jumping from 2nd line play to 1st line play for Los Angeles. Chris took that opportunity and ran. With a career high 29 goals, 32 assists for 72 points. This was a career high, and will remain his career high for his career. For this season, he won the Jeff Dar award for best two-way forward. With 72 points he was 4th in scoring that season, as S10 was still a part of the “scoring inflation” era of the SHL. Brodie Witzel, Benjamin Wong, and Robert Spezza were all above him.
S11 McZehrl the user became the GM of Los Angeles, and with that he began a rebuild of Los Angeles. So with Chris McZerhl becoming one of the only great players left in Los Angeles, he repeated his previous season’s heroics. Scoring 30 goals, 42 assists for 72 points. A tie with his career high last season. With the scoring inflation though, that was only good for  11th in scoring for that season. An amazing season for sure, but nothing that will bring him home any awards.

S12 and S13 will be interesting for anyone who hasn't experienced suspensions in the SHL. In the modern SHL, it rarely happens because people become smarter, and less shitty in general. But for McZherl, these suspensions were GM related.
S12 saw Chris McZehrl suspended 25 games(half the season) for tampering. So for the S12 season, saw Chris have an amazing season for only 25 games played. In He scored 11 goals, 23 assists for 34 points in those 25 games.
S13 he was suspended suspended 15 games for collusion with another GM for different trades. S13 though, he was not in Los Angeles anymore, as he stepped down from being GM after 2 seasons. Chris McZerhl faced the suspension in Calgary this time. Where he was traded in that offseason. Where Calgary received Chris McZehrl, and Los Angeles Receiving a 1st, 2nd, and a 3rd round pick. So in S13 those 35 games, he scored 18 goals, 23 assists for 41 points.

S14 was his first time since S11 where he had a full season, and his first full season for the Calgary Dragons. Scoring 24 goals, 31 points for 55 points. The inflation era is over, so no more 70+ seasons for McZehrl. But going above a PPG is a great pace for him from now on. This season he also won the Aidan Richan for most improved.
S15 showed a slight dip, only scoring 17 goals, 28 assists for 45 points. With that, McZehrl was moved in the offseason. Traded to the Seattle Riot, With Seattle receiving Chris Mczehrl and Claude Perron. The Dragons got younger acquiring Jesse Jacex-Kix, Aliens Paurs, Reinis Lillais, and a S71 1st.  In the trade the Calgary GM said the following
“The Dragons are getting older and we obviously have a need to get younger, Chris is approaching regression in a few years and if we don't get a good return for him now I fear we may not be able to get the same return in a few seasons, so that's why we are making this deal now.”
McZherl said the following of the trade
“O4L, thx for all! it was really great in Dragons ! but we discussed that and we said you should do a faster rebuild! then you can attack earlier with a great development team! because the fair deal, i wanted a fair deal for both sides! only with that i would say yes to a deal! GoB come on and let push the playoffs in Season 16 B)”

S16 Showed that he can easily be a PPG player again. Scoring 29 goals, 27 assists for 55 points. This season he earned a 3rd All Star Team.
S17 was the first time Chris collected all the awards. On the Seattle Riot where he played 1st line minutes. He scored 30 goals, 37 assists for 67 points. Not to mention 153 hits as well. With all of that, he won all the awards. Winning the Jay McDonald for most goals, Jeff Dar for best two-way forward, Ron Mexico for league MVP, and Sergei Karpotsov for most points that season.
S18 showed to be another strong season for Chris, both in the regular season and the playoffs. Regular season he scored 26 goals, 22 assists for 48 points. A dip in assists. But he won the Jay McDonald award for most goals that season. On Top of that, in the playoffs he won the Challenge Cup with the Seattle Riot. The first and only Challenge Cup the Seattle Riot had ever had. With that, he received a nomination for the Anton Razov trophy for playoff MVP.

S19 was another great season for McZehrl. Scoring 23 goals and 39 assists for 62 points. He finished 2nd in the league in points. Unlucky for him, he only got an All Star Team from that season.
S20 he put up another great season. 21 goals, 30 assist for 51 points, good for 2nd in points for that season as well. This time around though, he did receive a Ron Mexico Nomination for it.
S21 saw his final PPG season, scoring 16 goals and 40 points for 56 points. During the middle of S22, he was traded to New England. In the end scoring 22 goals, 24 assists for 46 points.
S23 saw the final season of Chris McZehrl, ending up with 14 goals, 26 assists for 40 points. With that final season with New England, he won his 2nd Challenge Cup. Ending his career on a high note, he retired.

With 764 games played, 322 goals, 461 assists for 783 points. McZehrl retired with over a PPG. A crazy statline for STHS, especially with someone that had over 500 games played. Sure the inflation era helped with that as well. But you can only play in the eras you were given. And with McZehrl, he was an elite player season over season. With 1 Ron Mexico Win, 1 Ron Mexico Nom, 1 Karpotsov Win, 2 McDonald wins, 2 Challenge Cups, and 2 Jeff Dar Wins. McZehrl deserves the spot #28 on this list
