It was an exciting season on the Kraken to say the least. We worked hard to make it to playoffs, and even harder to win an unlikely matchup against the Armada in round 1. Struggling in round 2, we will only continue to work on what we do best and play our hearts out as a team. I feel there is a lot more gas in the tank than we are showing, and taking the time and giving the effort to put our skills to the highest interest of the team is what we do best.

We have practiced nearly every day since regular season ended; exhausting ourselves and working on any and every aspect one could think of. Our teamplay has come a long way this year, and our scoring is just starting to heat up. I feel as if this team is capable of being a true Cinderella story and going the whole way, but it starts tonight as we need to come back in round 2.

The race to end the season and be first was so grueling that the Maine Timber needed time off to recoup for the first round of the playoffs. As a reward for all their hard work, the GM of the Timber collected the entire team and its coaching staff together and announced they would spend the 4 days off between the first round of the playoffs and the end of the regular season fishing in Hudson Bay Canada. This was a most welcome bit of respite among the players and staff as the season was a hard fought battle starting with game one. The team broke up in to teams of 4 and each was assigned a boat and a guide. They set up a fishing derby with prizes for the largest fish, the longest fish, the teams joint weight, teams total amount of fish and of course the ugliest fish. Besides the derby rules, the team had a small betting pool of $10,000 buy in to see who could catch the fattest fish. It was just what the team needed as they went on to sweep their 1st round opponents.

I think 3WW Wingmate Roc prepares by going home to the blustery peaks of Tarkir, looking over the Sandsteppe in order to recharge. Of course, having seen all the news about the trades happening in the SHL, we would see Wingmate Roc need to get really into shape, to show what he can do. It was a very medium season for him, but this playoff push is how he can show that he's got the stuff to play on the top line next season, or closer to it. This season, and these playoffs, are all about learning about what to do, how to play to be a prospective pro. It's a blessing that Quebec City is so deep on the roster, it's a great learning experience for Wingmate Roc, but it does cut into his game time, which he is excited to earn and to show what he can do next season, and these playoffs are the perfect place to start!

Vancouver's regular season was obviously not the most confident thing to build off of when preparing for a playoff push. Tallying 16 wins and 45 losses, achieving second last in the league, we didn't want that to represent how we think about the playoffs, a losing mindset results in losing. First step of the way was wipe our memory and start with a blank slate of how we need to play. Upping our compete levels was something that was important to the team, teams that don't work hard don't get anywhere, and our systems definitely needed a rework as we needed more defensive responsibility, not just pure offense. Second was, for lack of a better term, we needed to lock in and just focus on playing well. We needed everyone buying in and sticking to routines, if even one guy isn't buying in it could have thrown everyone off. With these in mind, our second-to-last team made it to game 7 of the first round before eventually losing in a heartbreaker for the underdogs. Better luck next year!

To prepare for the playoffs, the Maine Timber had a much different approach from many teams in the league. As my teammate and D-Partner Nuck mentioned in his post above, the Timber coach offered the players 4 days off in order to rest before the playoffs. However, many players on the Timber are hard workers and decided instead of taking any time off they would train harder than ever. Mia and Eduard Lavoie along with Kristians Mikelis decided to take to the forests of Maine and do some tree chopping to improve their conditioning. While they knew it would be important to at least get some rest before the grueling playoffs to come the Lavoie's and Mikelis spent 2 days and one night deep in the Maine forest with only enough food for the three of them. The one night they spent huddled up in a tent. At one point a bear passed by and took a few sniffs at the tent the Timber youngsters were staying in. Luckily everyone made it out unscathed (Besides the trees) and the young guns lived to chop another tree... And play another playoff series.

Detroit does what it always does before a game turn up we are the champions and shot pucks down the ice unlike no other team ever could. We allow fans inside during our training and bond with them over the best sport ever created. Although we made it to the play offs we did end up losing - this is not an action we take lightly but not everyone is subject to lose every once and awhile. We connect as a team and family both on and off the ice - we have taken trips together, donated money to charity, and participated in lots of activities with our fan base. Lots of training goes into the tone and pitch of how we SKREE to pass the puck to a teammate it can take multiple seasons to master our codes and become proficient in the art of the falcon. Detroit are nothing without you - we had a great run with the cup and have no doubt that we are going to keep on swinging next season. More to come Detroit everyone watch out  Falcons !

For Saint Louis, there was little rest going into the playoffs. We were already up against it, and we all knew it, so there was practice, practice, and more practice. Of course, there was also time to focus on recuperation, after a long season everyone picks up some soreness at best and some minor injuries are standard, but that didn't mean time to slack. Partly from Alexa's insistence, everyone got to watch tape, of themselves and of the team's first round opponents, the Maine Timber. The main goal of these were to identify focuses for practice, things that could be improved on in the short break before playoffs to maximum effect, but it was also to identify weaknesses in Maine's game.

However, not everything could be practice. It would have been reckless in the extreme to risk the player's health so much, and mentally draining to try and watch that much tape without some form of break, so team movie nights were held, The final movie watched was one specifically picked out to inspire the team- Miracle, about Team USA overcoming the Soviets in the Olympics despite having no right to.

With the Knights not making the playoffs, Jennifer had plenty of free time in the offseason. Most of her free time has been spent visiting SHL scouts. She has heard from 6 teams so far leading up to the SHL draft and has had amazing conversations with every team. She has no clue where she is going to do but is excited about every opportunity. She also took a trip to Prague in Czechia to meet with Troy McClure, the Federation Head for the Czechia IIHF team. Jennifer grew up playing for South Korea, who unfortunately does not have an IIHF team. Troy reached out with an opportunity to play for a highly regarded IIHF team, and Jennifer could not pass the opportunity up. She spent a lot of time in Prague, learning about Czech culture, meeting with her future WJC and IIHF teammates, and making the transfer official. Now she waits for the SHL draft to see where she ends up next.

Since the Malamutes had a bye for the first round of the playoffs, we had plenty of time to train and prepare for the start of round 2. We were initially given a few days of rest to recover from the regular season, but after that we had multiple practices to stay in shape while the other teams were competing in round 1. We also tried our best to study Maine's first round games as much as possible to try and gain the upper hand in terms of strategy, but that was difficult to convert into practices or tips on how to play against them since St. Louis is a very different opponent to us and there were only 4 games to study. None of those games led to a victory for the Scarecrows so it was difficult to learn from an example where a team didn't ever beat Maine's strategies. We just kept practicing and studying for the big match-up in the best ways we knew how to, which seemed to work well for games 1 and 2 in our series, but fell short for the next four games.

With playoffs looming, the Newfoundland Berserkers hustled hard and dialed up their game for the ultimate showdown, the SMJHL playoffs. They went on a fantastic win streak to finish of the regular season. Nobody wanted to match up against them in the playoffs. In the locker room, the vibe was electric as we dissected opponents' strategies and pumped each other up. MattyJ soaked up advice like a sponge, eager to prove himself alongside the vets. As the playoffs got closer, practices got more intense and emotions got higher. Patty had the team skating suicides for three hours.

As playoffs kicked off, the Berserkers charged in, Sabage Cabage leading the charge with his amazing play. After winning their first series in 7 games, the team is ready for the next round. We will look past our woes and mistakes, and be ready to correct that in the next round. Newfoundland is ready to chop down the Timber.
