2X Draft Media (forgot to put it in the title tbh)

The Seattle Argonauts are deep in the trenches of a rebuild, with a newly formed group of prospects made up of primarily Season 74-76 draftees. Headlined by Season 74 3rd overall pick Will Tomlander (roastpuff), Season 75 3rd overall pick Pinliswitchbang (leviadan), and now Season 76 5th overall pick Stavros Kondos (Ohtaay). The current Seattle squad finished 19th in the league this season ending with 7 wins and securing a high pick in the draft. The season was headlined by defender Wendolene Ramsbottom putting up the 14th most shot blocks in a single season with 314, as well as moving into the 14th slot in all time shot blocks with 2094. Vaseline Podcalzone led the team in points in his 17th season with the team with 21 goals and 43 points. Despite regressing again this season, Podcalzone bounced back from his 39 point season to break the 40 point marker for his 14th time in his career! Podcalzone is also now firmly 33rd in all time SHL games played with 1122 total.

After failing to win the draft lottery, the Argonauts had the second best scenario play out and remained at 2nd overall with their own pick. In such a deep draft where the top 5 can be any of the great players or users, Seattle was offered a trade. After much thought and debate, Seattle would end up trading the second overall pick to Edmonton as well as the second round pick in Season 79 for Edmonton’s 5th Overall pick, S77 TOR 1st, and S78 NOLA 1st (has condition it can be moved to S80 if decided before the day of the S78 SHL Draft).

The 5th Overall pick and the TOR S77 1st round pick were both acquired from Toronto a couple days ago in a massive trade that saw Edmonton enter a rebuild and send Toronto Jack St. Clair, Louise St. Martin, Eggward Elric and Oles Kobliska. The S78 Nola 1st rounder came over in a trade after Edmonton won the cup in S73, sending Conner Snooks and a MTL 2nd round pick that would end up being Cracker Pizza for NOLA’s 1st in S78 and S77 2nd rounder.

Seattle would end up having 2 picks in the first round, 3 in the second round and 2 in the third round. A solid amount of picks, the Argonauts would be looking to focus more on defence in this draft in order to bolster their future D core. Now let’s take a look at the newest Future members of the Seattle Argonauts.

5th Overall - Stavros Kondos - Center 367 TPE (1st)
User: Ohtaay - Regina Elk  11G 22A 33P 66GP 156HIT

The Argos had a bit of insight on the top few picks and were hoping for Kondos to fall to 5th overall and thankfully he did. Argonaut’s GM Fischermann practically sprinted to the podium to select Kondos at 5. A 6’2 Center hailing from the SMJHL’s Regina Elk, Kondos is not one to shy away from physical play after racking up 156 hits in his rookie season. With an all around offensive skillset, Kondos’s strengths are in his hockey IQ and work ethic that can help him push further than most players. Potting 33 points while playing left wing on the third line for the majority of the season, Kondos has high upside and the Argos take him early. Stavros will be playing for Team World in the World Junior Championships as the Greek centerman looks to get some international experience on an international team primarily made up of Season 75 and Season 76 players.

Not long after the draft, Ohtaay has become the co-GM of Seattle looking to help build the Argos back to a Challenge cup appearance.

15th Overall - Kristians Mikelis - Left Defence 331 TPE (29th)
User: FnoRespect  - Maine Timber  12A 12P 37GP 22TKA 29BLK

Helping solidify the future defence core of the Argonauts, the current GM of Ratvia in the World Juniors is picked up at 15th overall. The Argonauts have a lack of left defencemen in the prospect pool and Mikelis will be a solid addition to the team. Tallying 12 assists in 37 games this season after being picked up on waivers by the always strong Maine Timber, the big, smooth skating defender slotted in on the second pair and was a great contributor for the Timber’s run to the third round. Kristians Mikelis put up a solid 22 takeaways and 29 blocks in those 37 games and was great on the penalty kill. Using his high agility, balance, and stamina, Mikelis can slot into big game situations easily and be relied on to munch minutes when needed. The two-way defender is not shy of trying to contribute offensively racking up 51 shots in his short time with the Timber, if he can take another step forward he can be a blue line mainstay for the Argonauts.

With the addition of Mikelis, we now have 3 Latvians on the squad (Olivija Agate and Squidwardo Tentacles)! Let’s go Ratvia! Bring us the gold!

22nd Overall - Chuff D’Lee - Right Defence 333 TPE (28th)
User: CreHuf8 - Colorado Raptors 1G 24A 25P 66GP 30TKA 119BLK

Chuff D’Lee is another great addition for the Argonauts, as the cup winning defenceman celebrates winning the Four Star Cup with the Colorado Raptors this summer. Playing on the third defensive pairing, D’Lee was a solid shutdown defender that average 1:19 on the penalty kill each game. Putting up 24 assists from the back end, D’Lee was a defensive player that helped lock up opponents and played a major part in the cup run for the Raptors. Championship teams need guys like Chuff who will lay it all on the line in the big moments, blocking shots and breaking up plays, and trusting they’ll get it done when they get on the ice. Cool under pressure, Chuff D’Lee isn’t focused on making a crazy rush up the ice but opts to take the smart short passes when needed and use the time and space they have to their advantage. A great addition at 22nd overall for the Argos, if D’Lee continues to improve defensively they can be an amazing defensive defender.

31st Overall - Lyle Odelein IV - Left Wing 286 TPE (42nd)
User: Huck24 - Anchorage Armada 3G 4A 7P 21GP 44HIT

Lyle Odelein IV is a dynamic left winger that is responsible at both ends of the ice. Picked up on waivers late in the season by the Anchorage Armada, the winger spots were filled already. Being the team player that he is, Odelein IV took one for the team and slotted in on the second defensive pairing as a right defenseman. A testament to his defensive abilities, Lyle made the most of the situation and racked up 44 hits in the 21 short games with the Armada. Grabbing a good 11 takeaways in their first season, the offense and defense sides of their game is there as they build off the fundamentals they have. If the physical side of Odelein IV’s game is similar on the wing as it is on defence currently, they could be a great power forward in the future as they’ve already been racking up hits sitting just over 2 hits per game.

35th Overall - Caper Poirot - Right Wing 273 TPE (47th)
User: JellyRamp - Vancouver Whalers 4G 21A 27P 66GP

With a ton of Left Wings in the prospect pool, the Argonauts went to the Whalers and picked up Caper Poirot at pick 35. The 6’2 forward is solid in all aspects of their game, equally as good on the offensive and defensive sides of the game. An average skater who doesn’t shy away from dropping the gloves if needed, Poirot will have to learn to use their 6’2 size to their advantage to succeed in the SHL. Hailing from the most Northern town in Canada; Alert, Nunavut, Poirot is looking to step into a bigger role for the Whalers in this upcoming season to develop into a strong player. Putting up 21 assists in their rookie season, Caper will look to build off their rookie campaign and produce for the Whalers.

42nd Overall - Peppi Guiseppe - Right Wing 281 TPE (44th)
User: JoeyPoggers - Carolina Kraken 22G 23A 45P 66GP

Peppi Guiseppe is an all offense forward that had a great rookie season. The rookie sniper was able to crack the 20 goal marker in their first season while playing second line minutes as well as manning the point on powerplay unit 2. With the graduation of Sykut and Nickelback from the Kraken, Guiseppe has a chance to increase his playing time and help push Carolina forward. Falling to 42nd overall in the draft, Seattle continues the pattern of picking a big forward as Guiseppe is 6’2. He will need to round out the defensive side of his game in order to make him a multiple zone threat. Reminding me of Tomas Vanek, Guiseppe is not very fast or great on defense, but once they get an open shot lane they can beat the goalie cleanly. Coming from Disappointment Island, New Zealand, he should be anything but a disappointment if he keeps developing into a scoring threat.

49th Overall - Squilliam Fancyson - Center 236 TPE (59th)
User: Kanye33 - Anchorage Armada 21G 30A 51P 66GP 57TKA 75HIT

The Argonauts grabbed their highest scoring player of the draft all the way down at 49th overall. Grabbing the 51 point, 21 goal scoring Squilliam Fancyson from the Anchorage Armada. Lighting it up on the third line for the Armada, Squilliam was cooking for the boats and was a solid depth scorer with each linemate putting up 45+ points. Able to dish the puck as well as take it away, the all around player is a great pickup this late in the draft. Brother to Peppi Guiseppe, hopefully the brother duo have a solid career with the Argonauts.

The Argonauts completed the Season 76(I feel old already) Entry Draft with a plethora of new prospects that will hopefully mix well with the current prospects and will push the Argos to the cup in a few seasons!
