GUESSING ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AND ANALYSIS: WITH TURG!
#1
(This post was last modified: 04-04-2024, 04:43 PM by ThisSeemsFishy. Edited 3 times in total.)

The camera flickers on and viewers are greeted with a close up of TURG TURG in all his glory. He wears an embroidered Los Angeles Panthers bathrobe and a Calgary Dragons hat. Underneath the bathrobe, a Philadelphia Forge shirt peeks through. Montreal Patriotes socks adorn his feet. And a Tampa Bay Barracuda jersey lays haphazardly on the floor behind him. Classic TURG.

”Hello friends, it is me, TURG TURG! With a new SHL season right around the corner, that also means new rookies! Today TURG will be taking a look at the first year SHL stars who will be looking to make a name for themselves! Many good players all around so TURG do not know who will win the Ryan Jesster award for best rookie, but TURG will do his best to give a good TURG guess! Ha ha! Let’s take a look! TURG will also make a guess as to where each player will slot into the lineup. But TURG only hide in each team locker room occasionally, so he does not know the full story!”

Atlanta Inferno:

This season, the Atlanta Inferno have 3 rookies taking the ice in season 76! Of them, the biggest standout is defenceman, Kristian Sepoanen. Seppanen is sitting over 1k TPE and has a solid bank account to keep up with weekly training. He has the 3rd highest TPE total for defencemen on the Inferno, so he should get a decent amount of playing time. Atlanta has a solid roster so there’s plenty of talent to surround Seppanen with as well. Drafted 14th overall in the S73 draft, Seppanen has won 2 WJC Gold medals with the powerhouse Team Norden, as well as winning a bronze medal with Finland in S73. Aside from that, he has yet to win an award.

bongo - (S73) - 856 TPE - $3,930,000 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd line

Kristian Seppanen (S73) - 1009 TPE - $33,230,000 - Lineup Prediction: 2nd pairing

Jim Wen (S73) - 484 TPE - $1,120,000 - Lineup Prediction: Backup goalie

Total TPE: 2349
Average TPE: 783
Total Bank $: 38,280,000
Average Bank $: 12,760,000

Buffalo:

As of now, the Buffalo Stampede only have 2 rookies suiting up for them this season. The goaltender with perfect positioning and a name that doesn’t really inspire confidence, Five-Hole Sieve will look to take over the backup role to Casey Fantobens, with hopes of becoming the starter very soon. A decent roster in front of him and a solid amount of starts could possibly earn Five-Hole Sieve his first individual award. But TURG would have to say it is unlikely to happen yet! Sieve was a 2nd round pick in S73 and was on the Silver medal Team Ice in the S74 WJC!

As for the other rookie, we have none other than royalty in Prince Marius. Marius joins the squad with 1k TPE and a very hefty bank account. Marius also has a very nice track record in the J, winning a Four Star Cup, a WJC gold, and 2 silvers, and was also on the 2nd All-Star team in S74. We shall see if he can continue to find success on a bigger stage.

Five-Hole Sieve (S73) - 799 TPE - $3,251,000 - Lineup Prediction: Backup Goalie

Prince Marius (S73) - 1003 TPE - $89,125,000 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd line

Total TPE: 1802
Average TPE: 901
Total Bank $: 92,376,000
Average Bank $: 46,188,000

Calgary:

3 rookies for the Dragons take the ice in Season 76. It looks to be a season of going through the motions in Calgary until the very impressive crop of rookies that includes the Solberg twins, Oranj Konhe, and Kaarlo Koivunen arrives. Despite that, this trio is not to be underestimated. Ryland Murphy comes off of a very impressive season playing with the Solberg Twins where he picked up 99 points on the season. Time will tell if he can do the same against the stronger competition in the SHL. Murphy enters the season with 2 WJC golds, a bronze, and a WJC Demaricus Smyth Award.

Graham Schwartz (S73) - 452 TPE - $1,600,000 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd pair

Jerry Moonshine (S74) - 592 TPE - $6,508,333 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd line

Ryland Murphy (S73) - 705 TPE - $3,700,000 - Lineup Prediction: 2nd line

Total TPE: 1749
Average TPE: 583
Total Bank $: 11,808,333
Average Bank $: 3,936,111

Chicago:

The Chicago Syndicate rookies may only be numbered 2, but they are among the most formidable of the rookie class. Both have solid TPE numbers and very impressive bank accounts to prop them up as well. Considered by many to be a front runner for the Jesster award is Sad Ketchup who looks to be Happy Ketchup upon a great rookie season. Playing on a rebuilding Chicago team will likely see lots of minutes for Ketchup on the top line playing with 2 other 1k TPE forwards. Cal Juice will also likely get a decent amount of playing time depending on how he’s utilized. So don’t count him out either.

Sad Ketchup (S73) - 1010 TPE - $54,893,000 - Lineup Prediction: 1st line

Cal Juice (S73) - 776 TPE - $96,985,999 - Lineup Prediction: 2nd Line

Total TPE: 1786
Average TPE: 893
Total Bank $: 151,878,999
Average Bank $: 75,939,499.50

Edmonton:

Just 2 rookies joining the Edmonton Blizzard this season, it may be a long winter for the capital of Alberta. After blowing up their team in the off-season, Jordan Thompson could work his way up the lineup with some hard work this year. But will likely start down near the bottom line. The same goes for Vyacheslav Shevchenko. Although, Shevchenko doesn’t have the advantage that comes with being rich.

Jordan Thompson (S73) - 668 TPE - $81,520,000 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd line

Vyacheslav Shevchenko (S73) - 603 TPE - $350,000 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd line

Total TPE: 1271
Average TPE: 635.5
Total Bank $: 81,870,000
Average Bank $: 40,935,000

Hamilton:

Widely considered one of the best prospects to come out of the S73 draft, Jani Mänty looks to have a strong rookie showing. Despite not winning any SMJHL awards, Mänty is still a deadly competitor, boasting impressive offensive and physical upside. The only thing possibly holding him back is being on a fairly deep Steelhawks team, likely bumping him down the lineup for the time being.

Jani Mänty (S73) - 1031 TPE - $84,904,702 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd Line

Panthers:

Salat gets to join an incredibly stacked Panthers roster with only himself and backup goalie Bandit Heeler as players under 1k TPE. As a result, he should get lots of playoff experience. Although the trade off is he is unlikely to get a ton of ice time as he is the 7th defenceman TPE wise. There may be a move in the works for the Panthers to clear up a spot. Or he could possibly be on the move.

Jonas Salat (S73) - 833 TPE - $1,970,000 - Lineup Prediction: the secret 4th pairing(?)

Manhattan:

Another team with only 1 rookie. But she’s a really good one. Betzee Nickelback enters the SHL with 1k TPE and well over $50m which is a fantastic combination to have. She joins the squad as the 5th highest TPE forward which should earn her a good chunk of ice time. Similar to Sad Ketchup in Chicago, she should be playing with a couple 1k TPE forwards to help boost her numbers. The 2nd overall pick will have something to prove, as she hasn’t won any awards thus far (although she was nominated for the Jack Cross in S73).

Betzee Nickelback (S73) - 1004 TPE - $56,690,000 - Lineup Prediction: 1st line

Minnesota:

A personal favourite of TURG’s just based on the way he plays ha ha! Xavier Beausoleil is a high energy player who can dish crisp passes as well as lay bone crushing hits. Beausoleil joins a pretty deep Monarchs team which means he’s likely not to get big minutes this season. But that doesn’t mean you should ignore his contributions. With 1k TPE, the only thing possibly holding him back is his small bank account compared to other 1k TPE holders. Someone get this guy some cash!

Xavier Beausoleil (S73) - 1012 TPE - $4,670,000 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd line

Montreal:

Oh right, the Patriotes. The only real notable thing about this team this season is that they’ve got 4 solid rookies getting pretty big minutes. Jussi Mutou leads the way with 988 TPE and a bank account in the 10 millions. Add on Emil Karlsson, Mikkel Enevoldsen, and a Raptor connection in Valerija Serapin and this is going to be an exciting team this season. Even if they’re not likely to win many games. I would consider Jussi a very outside shot at winning Rookie of The Year as he should have pretty big minutes and his playstyle tends to translate to high danger plays. But it’s going to be tough to get going the way the roster is built at the moment. I also can’t go without mentioning Emil Karlsson who should get some pretty big minutes as well. Karlsson also has the most Center TPE on the Patriotes roster. I’ll choose to see this as a win for Karlsson, rather than an L for Montreal.

Jussi Mutou (S73) - 988 TPE - $25,379,000 - Lineup Prediction: 1st line

Valerija Serapin (S73) - 666 TPE - $3,250,000 - Lineup Prediction: 2nd pair

Emil Karlsson (S74) - 808 TPE - $90,344,000 - Lineup Prediction: 1st line

Mikkel Enevoldsen (S74) - 805 TPE - $71,311,000 - Lineup Prediction: 1st Pair

Total TPE: 3267
Average TPE: 816.75
Total Bank $: 190,284,000
Average Bank $: 47,571,000

New England:

Another team with 4 shiny new rookies, and a pretty solid roster around them, the Wolfpack rookies will have a big spotlight. If TURG had to guess, he would say the best season from these 4 will come from Lily Jin Morrow. The 2nd highest goal scorer in the J from the S73 Draft class, she knows how to put the puck in the net.

Jaxson Reaper (S74) - 749 TPE - $12,865,000 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd pair

Kenny Omega (S73) - 929 TPE - $13,420,000 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd line

Jeff Goldblum (S73) - 902 TPE - $31,290,000 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd pair

Lily Jin Morrow (S73) - 947 TPE - $17,930,000 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd line

Total TPE: 3527
Average TPE: 881.75
Total Bank $: 75,505,000
Average Bank $: 18,876,250

Philadelphia:

Another team that should be competitive this season, the Philadelphia Forge have 3 rookies (including an inactive) taking the ice. Of them, Ubba Lodbrok is the standout for me. 980 TPE and a decently sized bank account should mean his growth should be solid. In terms of ice time however, he’s unlikely to get the big minutes of a few other players that have been mentioned.

Ubba Lodbrok (S73) - 980 TPE - $16,401,000 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd line

Marek Carda (S74) - 801 TPE - $17,295,000 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd line

Ben Harrison (S73) - (IA) - 365 TPE - $1,850,000 - Lineup Prediction: Backup Goalie

Total TPE: 2146
Average TPE: 715.33
Total Bank $: 35,546,000
Average Bank $: 11,848,666.70

Seattle:

With only one rookie to speak for, Seattle is hoping the season feels shorter than it is. Being in a similar boat (ha ha) as Montreal, should mean that Sykut gets big minutes. However, unlike Montreal, there are no 1k TPE forwards on the squad. Meaning the young center will need to generate most of the offence. Luckily, Seattle has a decent 1st pairing to help out on the back end.

Rence Sykut (S73) - 833 TPE - $1,440,000 - Lineup Prediction: 1st line

Tampa Bay:

Once again, we come to a competitive team with a big crop of rookies. If TURG were grading each team based on the rookies, TURG would say Tampa is 2nd only to Toronto. The big thing holding this group from surpassing Toronto’s rookie team is IA rookie Unspeakable Horror. But with Dunkler Sowerwine, Shawn Pawn, and Dag-Otto Björntjänst, Tampa should be in a good position.

Dunkler Sowerwine (S73) - 997 TPE - $46,365,000 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd pair

Unspeakable Horror (S73) - (IA) - 626 TPE - $2,540,000 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd pair

Shawn Pawn (S74) - 816 TPE - $52,682,500 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd line

Dag-Otto Björntjänst (S74) - 821 TPE - $170,661,000 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd line

Total TPE: 3260
Average TPE: 815
Total Bank $: 272,248,500
Average Bank $: 68,062,125

Texas:

Texas only has 1 rookie this year but holy moly is he ever an incredible one. 1022 TPE and a bank account over $100m (can anyone else get some food in their mouth? damn). Guy Incognito joins an absolutely stacked Renegades squad that only has 1 player sub 1k TPE. And it’s their backup goalie. While it’s unlikely Incognito wins rookie of the year due to his position and likely spot in the lineup, we should all still keep an eye on this player.

Guy Incognito (S73) - 1022 TPE - $130,101,000 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd pair

Toronto:

The big fish of rookie groups. Each of these 4 rookies are in the top 20 TPE wise for their draft class. Add on big bank accounts and this is going to be a very scary lineup to deal with in the coming seasons. However, because they are on a pretty deep lineup, it’s unlikely any of these rookies get a ton of ice time this year.

Florian Söderberg-Motyla (S73) - 989 TPE - $149,185,510 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd line

Bobby Tkachuky (S73) - 989 TPE - $27,500,000 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd line

Mac Turner (S73) - 978 TPE - $49,110,000 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd line

Brooklyn Physt (S73) - 991 TPE - $30,529,000 - Lineup Prediction: 3rd pair

Total TPE: 3947
Average TPE: 986.75
Total Bank $: 256,324,510
Average Bank $: 64,081,127.50

Unsigned

An unsigned rookie in Daniel Durkburg. Likely to find a spot very soon with the season around the corner.

Daniel Durkburg (S73) - unsigned - 789 TPE - $4,180,000

Teams without a rookie:
Baltimore
New Orleans
San Francisco
Winnipeg

Ha it is like these teams aren’t even trying! Next!

TURG’s LIST OF POSSIBLE ROOKIE OF THE YEARS
1. Sad Ketchup
2. Betzee Nickelback
