Hello and welcome to a new segment of Flames 1848 Managing. After we established our VFL Scouting System and our SHL Sport Media TV we are proud to present you our newest product:



The SHL Sports Illustrated is the new SHL related newspaper and media section with interesting stories around the SHL. In our first issue with our star writer don cherry we want to give the many juniors players and gms an overview over the newest stories in the media section. To add some salt to the soup and get a little discussion and controversion we asked Don Cherry to rate the stories in mind of this three criterias:

Interesting story (1 boooooring – 5 fantastic)
League related (1 no relation – 5 full relation)
Presentation ( 1 ugly – 5 great)

In a great story about their hard off season we get a look at the insight of Edmonton Blizzards Defender Teemu Nurmi and the Detroit Falcons GM Buster (Teemus Manager too). The loss in the 4 Stars cup was very hard for manager buster (assistant GM at this time in detroit) and his players hasnt had any playoff luck in his career too. Its a real great story with more than 1000 words worth reading each of them. Its an example for good and interesting stories.

In this nice media story about the naming of the Captain and Alternate Captains of the SMJHL Detroit Falcons jur4kiss (Player: Janis Vitols) explaines very well why the Falcons GM chooses Janis Vitolis instead the teams choice Peter Parker. Second Alternate Captain will be Brooklyn Carter.

In this short interview style report the player Yevgeny Davydenko-Slepyshev (St. Louis Scarecrows) offers the league his bad playing situation in St. Louis. He is very angry about his standing in the team because he thinks he has not enough ice time in comparsion to the promises the team management has given to him before signing his contract. He got only 7 minutes of icetime and is very sad about it!

In this issue of the Knight Knews (Media-Section from the Kelowna Knights) Drum Bongwater gives the league a nice review of the first 1/4 the Knights have played. The Knights stould on last place. In another section of his news he shows us the slow start, the clouds in the game of kelowna, the silver linings and two player profiles from Quentyn Blackfyre and send down Daisuke Katsu.

The Prince George Firebirds Azriel Stryfe scores his first goal of his junior career against the St. Louis Scarecrows. He talks about his goal and why he was celebrating it in spite of beeing quiet seeing his team losing. Here the general manager of the vancouver whalers, GM Hallsy (Player: Jordan Hall / Winnipeg Jets) , announces his Team captains and explains his decisions. Vancouvers Captain now is Mikhail Krivokrasov. Hallsy explains he is the best player and a real leader in the locker room. The Alternate Captains are Tom Sawyer and Salva Boominen. Two high draft picks from vancouver who will play an important role in the whalers future.

Heading: Ivan Stoppuhk Arrives from Iceland

Iceland is a nice but small country. This is key of the story about we thing the SHLs only player from iceland in professionell SHL Hockey. Ivan Stoppuhk (nice name for a goalie) arrives at the US Airport and his first words were (like his name tells us) ""I want stop puck". Stopphuk is a butterfly style goalie and is now playing for the Kelowna Knights. Its a funny little story about a goalie exploring a whole new hockey world.

Heading: First Latvians in Detroit Falcons. Story

Latvis seams to be a good ground for Detroit scouts. In juri4ikiss' story he writes about the great starts the two latvian born players in the falcons organisation are having now. Janis Vitols and Roberts Birkavs are both playing for detroit since game 1. The story is about how the falcons management draftet this two players and what they have known about them before the draft (simply nothing). Its about the work ethic oft this two players and how hard they work for their opportunity to play in the best junior league in the world. Another chapter of the story is about the pre season this two latvians have played. After that we get a look how the stats are going for them. Maybe a bright future for this 2 Falcons
