I downloaded this and got it to run on my mac and it's confusing as hell.

I kind of just wanted to make a sim league myself, computer generated players, make the franchises, create some players etc and frig around with sims but like is this the right way to do it? haha

Does anyone have any suggestions?

You have to create the league file and either import players or create them one by one. It's the most tedious thing you could imagine

You can download demo for free. I believe demo has the same features as full version. only difference between both is that you can't save league file on demo.
