S40 PT 1: Setting Goals
#1

As a professional hockey player, you're either in the business of scoring goals or stopping them. But it's also important to set goals.

Written:

Write 200 words on what you expect out of your player this season. Is there a certain number of goals you're hoping to score, a line you want to play on, a particular teammate you want to share the ice with? What will it take for you to feel like you've had a successful season? Any bold predictions?

Graphic:

Create a rookie card for your player. Must include a player render, team logo, and at least 3 player attributes.

Reward:

4 TPE for doing the thing

You may do either the written or the graphic task. You cannot get credit for both.

Only S40 SMJHL Rookies (S41 SHL Rookies) are eligible for this PT.

Do NOT claim TPE for this task until a post has been made in the claim thread.

Deadline:
Thursday 3/29 at 10:59 PM EST

Flacko Lagerfield was gifted with a really great shot so I fully expect my player to net a couple goals this upcoming season and even get some assists too. It's his rookie season so playing time probably won't be the best in Detroit. He's playing on a good team that'll probably be looking to qualify for the playoffs. He'll most likely be placed on the 3rd line which I'm fine with to start off the season and it's likely he'll finish the season on that line too. I'm not sure how are power play is looking, but I'd love to somehow sneak into one of the units. I'd love to play with my new teammate and fellow draftee Lightning Jones, but I believe we're both left wingers so those chances are very slim. I'll be reaching for a goal of 7 goals and 13 assists for a good of 20 points in 50 games played while averaging around 18 minutes a game. It's not much, but it'll be a lot for me considering my player is still developing and is really "raw" in terms of stats. 20 points in 50 games should be good enough to impress the SHL scouts.

As the preseason nears, Lightning Jones, literal son of the Sky, readies himself to utterly dominate. Entering as the fourth overall draft choice by the Detroit Falcons, a lot is on his shoulders but he considers it simply additional weight to what already existed.

"You know, I'm basically a literal demigod. Pressure couldn't be higher to perform, right? People keep adding this or that, and honestly it's no big deal. Pressure was sky high the moment that bolt connected with the Earth and created me. What comes after is just icing, baby."

When asked about his goals, Jones says "the sky is the limit". He continued to eye markers of at least 30 points in his rookie season, a feat that has many raising their eyebrows, but Jones doesn't care.

"Ultimately, whatever happens, happens. I'm going to buckle down and do what's best for my team, to get them where they need to be. I was born for greatness, they weren't. What comes my way is going to come my way regardless, so I'm gonna take these boys for the ride of their lives."

Time will tell, however, if the sparky young rookie's words ring true. As the season grows closer, all eyes are on Jones.

Kata Vilde is coming into a team with an already established goalie. Kelowna should be able to make a very good run at the cup this season so I'd say my goals are mostly team goals. I will be the back up goaltender so I'd like to play well in my games that i do play. It would be nice if I could grab 4 out of 6 as wins for the team. It will also be a season of working on the build and analyzing the results of the games i do play in. having never had anything but one player this is a whole new ballgame for me. So while it would be nice to see some individual success, Vilde will be cheering on his teammates as we try to win our conference and then go on to have a strong playoffs and hopefully bring home the cup that eluded my former player in Montreal. I would also like to earn as much TPE as is humanly possible. Vilde already has purchased equipment and has done every possible task to earn TPE so far. Sitting just shy of 200 before the opening of the new season it would be pretty amazing if I could somehow get to 300 TPE before the start of next season. I've gotten several media pieces done to establish a bankroll to make this a possibility so hopefully these are some realistic goals Vilde and the team can reach.

Dayymo Ralchankinov my new player his will be round two for me as I have done this once before and I must say the first time around I didn’t hit any of my milestones. I scored a goal in my first game and then went pointless for the next 10 games. But times have changed the builds are hella different from when I last was in the juniors. I have a understanding on how to train so my expectations aren’t going to be huge or out of reach. I expect 30 points in my rookie season. A hard goal of course but very attainable. My second goal is to have atleast 10 goals. Again very achievable. Here’s my third goal. It’s seems like a very minor stat but is very important. +/- of atleast a +5 I feel like being a defensive reliable center who can score is important so hopefully that pays off in divid ends. My fourth goal is to have my faceoff percentage atleast 50%. I want to help my team have the puck of course and the way to do that I feel is to win faceoffs. Defensive and offensive. So if I win half of my faceoffs I would say that’s a good indicator that I am a valuable player. I want to help my team win a cup of course so all in all I feel these goals are achievable. We will see how this season pans out for Ralchankinov. My last player finished with only 24 points l. But I feel Ralchankinov will come out with atleast 30. Who knows let the season start my dudes. I am pumped I hope Ralchankinov is pumped and ready to kick some butt and put the puck in the back of the net. LETS GO MONTREAL.

To keep this plain and simple, cash savage wants to win rookie of the year. Not only that, he wants his team to win the cup. Cash savage will not be satisified without having the best season possible. He puts in the time doing all tpe challenges and making as much bank as possible to spend on training and equipment. His father was a hockey legend and he wants to love up to that. The simple fact is he has to be a legend or he will have failed in his father's eyes. Playing on the fourth line of a team as as stacked as the mammoths is gonna do great things for this guy. Learning through locker room interactions and gaining the knowledge that is required to get to the top of this league

The goals he has set for himself are simple. He wants to be the very best, the best there ever was. Like no one else before him. To do this he knows that working hard is the key and the most important factor. He will get , that's a promise. I promise to keep. At almost 200 before the season has even started there is nothing stopping him from dominating

Halifax, Nova Scotia

With the draft come and gone earlier this week, Reginald MacIntyre has his SMJHL landing place for the season (as far as he can trust with no contract in hand as of publication time) with the Halifax Raiders. With the season ahead, a chance to learn a bit more about the team and league and some time to develop prior to the first puck drop, he's had a chance to piece together expectations to pursue this season.

"I learned the club's defensive specialist from last season has since departed," he mentioned in an interview inside the clubhouse. "I hope to fill that need for the Raiders. I would like to make at least the second-line defensive pairing this season. It would help validate my progress this season, even if that placement takes some time to come, and I understand it would with me fresh out of the Draft."

When asked about statistical benchmarks he would like to reach, MacIntyre said "a positive plus/minus would be a good start. For the time I foresee getting, +5 would be wonderful and +10 would be stellar. My priority in this pursuit is to limit even-strength goals. With Freddie LaFlame taking over as starting goalie, he needs to be able to count on all of us to defend with him as a unit, whether first line or last. Cut their chances without obstructing him or opening the door to a surprise."

On awards, MacIntyre didn't seem to place as much importance on individual awards as team and teammate honors. "While I would be honored if I held the Quilha Agante or Esa Anrikkanen at season's end, I would be happiest to win the Four Star Cup with this team. The individual awards would be nice, though I won't be upset or discontent without them. I would even be thrilled if a fellow Raider won them."

Finally, in closing comments and on a question about any bold predictions for the season, MacIntyre responded "I will go so far as to say...you will see the Halifax Raiders in the upcoming season's Four Star Cup Finals."

Kristaps Ball enters this season with having a few personal goals and team goals, each he thinks he can achieve. The first personal goal is to get 5 goals this season. Kristaps Ball doesn't know what the average is for a rookie sniper, so he has gone with a modest amount that he hopes to achieve. He can surely do higher with one of the higher scoring stats in the Juniors, but he wants to be modest. Another goal he has for himself is to also get 5 assist this season. While he isn't much of a passer at all, he feels he can get a few assist this season. This obviously shows he wants 10 points this season, which he thinks is a goal that he can definitely get when his stats get better over the season.

Kristaps Ball wants to play with his great friend, Alex Andani, all season. Ball had already been told that that is most likely the plan, and is very excited about this as they can show their chemistry.

A team goal he has is for his team to win the cup. It's what everybody wants but Ball believes that his team has the ability to win it. Ball also wants the team to finish in the top three overall in the league regular season.

There definitely is a certain level of expectation that comes with the title of being the first overall pick in your draft class. Daniel Karlsson was the young man who the St. Louis Scarecrows put their trust in to lead his draft class and help lead the team toward another Four Star Cup victory after going all the way just a few months ago. With the season start still a little ways away it's not set in stone how the Crows roster and lines will look on opening night, so the team hasn't made any commitments to the kind of ways in which they'll utilise Daniel, but it's safe to assume he'll begin the season on the third defensive pair in a support role. For Daniel, a goal of 20 points, 10 goals and 50 hits given that role sounds like a reasonable target to work towards, but individual points and stats aside, the main season goal for Daniel will be to just contribute to a winning environment and mentality in the team going forward. If he can hold up an end consistently as a reliable defensive player, and bring in some of his trademark blueline offense for good measure, the Scarecrows will be getting a good rookie asset, and Daniel will be able to leave the season with his head held high.

Well Mattias Enqvist has been given the go-ahead from the Mammoths front office to take part in fourth line duties and he is being instructed to be part of an energy line. The front office mentioned that the Mammoths had an all-star fourth line last season and that Enqvist would;d put up points but also be relied upon to create with his physical stature and hopefully spark his team. Enqvist has said he is a playmaker but that will have to come as a secondary building characteristic as the team needs his help on the fourth line. The fourth line is made up of another rookie John Savage and another player that the front office has named yet. Mammoths seem to be in a place of power and the league better be ready for their depth. Already Enqvist has turned some heads in the training camp sessions and some intra-squad games. Enqvist sees himself as a Patrik Berglund style player and can be relied on for face-offs and a good two-way style. Mammoths seem to have a deep roster so the fourth line duty doesn't bug Enqvist but he is keen on moving up that lineup with some strong showings in his first few games or more.

Aiden Elswick was known to do one thing in his high school career, and that was put the puck in the back of the net. He now hopes to transition seamlessly into the SMJHL and do exactly the same thing. It will be harder for him, now that he is against better competition and will probably be playing on the 4th line for the majority of the season, but when he hits the ice, Elswick is going to be sure to excite everyone watching. But overall, despite his previous lack of passing and his propensity to shoot, Aiden Elswick is a team player first. That is why his main goal for this season is to be a contributor on a championship team. Halifax has all of the pieces there to form a great team. With the addition of these new rookies, they form an extremely deep team that allows for all of their lines to remain competitive. Having a strong scorer like Elswick come off the 4th line while allowing the better players to rest is dangerous for other teams. That is why, in the end, Elswick doesn't care much about personal achievements this season. He just wants to bring the gold back to Halifax.
