The playoffs are a super exciting time of the season. You know what makes them more exciting? Giving out a ton of TPE!

Here's how this will work: there are five tasks, each of which is worth up to 2 TPE for putting in a little effort, for a total of 10 possible TPE. You can complete them in any order and do as few or as many as you would like.

To complete all 5 tasks, you'll have to do a mixture of written and graphics work. Don't worry, we won't grade too harshly as long as you put in some effort.

Task #1 - Create a playoff poster for your team, advertising a specific game, a series, etc.
Requirements: Must include at least one SMJHL logo; must look like you at least kinda tried.

Task #2 - Cannot be done until round 1 is complete - Pick a round 1 series. What was the turning point in the series that eventually led to victory for the winning team? Could the opposing team have done anything to turn it around?
Requirements: At least 200 words.

Task #3 - Which line combination made the biggest positive impact for a team in a series? Which made the biggest negative impact? Why?
Requirements: At least 200 words.

Task #4 - With the SHL draft looming in the shadow of playoffs, tell us how you're going to distinguish yourself to SHL GMs during your cup run or the beginning of your offseason.
Must include: 100 words.

Task #5 - Cannot be done until at least one game in the final series has been simmed - Pick a player from each of the teams in the finals and make a case for why these players would be good candidates for playoff MVP. OR Create an infographic comparing an MVP candidate from each team.
Requirements: Written - At least 150 words and 2 stats. Graphic - At least 2 player renders and 2 smjhl logos. At least 3 stats.

DEADLINE FOR ALL TASKS: 7 full days after the final PBP is complete.

As always, SMJHL rookies (S42 SHL draftees) only. You are not eligible if you signed with a team after the trade deadline.

You cannot claim TPE for this PT until a post is made in the global claim thread.

Heading into game 6 of the SMJHL round one match up between the Montreal Militia and the Colorado Raptors, the Militia was looking at a 3-2 series deficit. They were back in Montreal for game six and did not want to send the home crowd home disapointed. Which could be seen back in their play.

I think the big turning point was the Militia were finally making use of the amount of shots they were taking. In two of the three previous loses the Militia had outshot the Raptors. Maybe the turning point is is that goalie Wastlund stood less on his head. Keeping his team in the game despite being outshot. Penalty kill was also huge for the Militia especially in game 5 in which they killed off 5 penalties. Which could have easily changed the outcome of the game.

Colorado lead game 7 with a 2-1 score until the third period in which they gave up too early goals to trail 3-2. In the second and third period they have four powerplays which if scored could have changed the entire game. It could have given them a better lead in the second and could have tied it up in the third.

Quote:Task #3 - Which line combination made the biggest positive impact for a team in a series? Which made the biggest negative impact? Why?

In the Montreal and Colorado there was a line that was clearly having some struggles and that was the second line for the Raptors. The line that consisted of Mattias Enqvist, Gustav Helzberg and Ryan Gardiner all had a -6 plus minus rating after 7 games. They also combined for a total of 2 goals and 4 assits. Which is not the kind of production you want to be seeing from your second line. Also considering the 2 goals were scored on the powerplay this line contributed to a total of 0 even strenght goals. Clearly they were a bit of a struggle and a liability in the defensive sence. Maybe a shake up would have proven well for this line.

For the Militia side their first line proven very well for them. Piotr Czerkawski, Dayymo Ralchankinov and Rádovän Hudeč. Was a line that was on fire and helped make the Montreal success in this series. Czerkawski had 4 goals and 4 assists, Ralchankinov had 3 goals and 3 assists and Hudec had a goal and 5 assists. A Well oiled line that helped the Militia produce. While comparising the first and second line is a little iffy, due to ice time and skill, it does still show the differnce.

I think Ulrich is trying to prove very hard what he can be for a team. He has been shooting a ton and been very physical. His shooting percentage has been hurting as it seems he had a very hard time figuring out the Raptor goaltender. However he has scored his second goal of the playoffs in the second game against the Whalers and only time will tell howmuch more will come.

Ulrich feels like this play will lift him up in the rankings. He probably will not do anything to crazy in the offseasons, but will do what he feels is right and hope gms see the value in him.

MVP pick for the Montreal Militia

Piotr Czerkawski

Czerkawski has been massive for the Militia in the first two rounds they have played. Scoring 7 goals and 8 assists, good for 15 points. 3 points on the powerplay and a penalty goal are his special team stats. He is going to be very important moving into the finals for the Militia. He is 4 points above the number 2 pointleader on the team and 7 on the number 3.

Honorable mention:

Walter Hobbs - 0.915 Save Percentage. 2.09 Goals Against Average. 1 shutout.

MVP pick for the Kelowna Knights

Iam Essellemm

Essellemm leads the playoffs in points together with Czerkawski. Essellemm has 6 goals and 9 assists. 7 (1 goal, 6 assists) of these points come from the powerplay. The powerplay is clicking amazingly for Kelowna and they'll be looking to capitalize on this during the finals. Essellemm is also shooting at a 26.09 shot percentage.

Honorable mention:

Kata Vilde - 0.903 sSave Percentage. 2.22 Goals Against Average. 8 wins, 0 losses

Quote:Task #2 - Cannot be done until round 1 is complete - Pick a round 1 series. What was the turning point in the series that eventually led to victory for the winning team? Could the opposing team have done anything to turn it around?
Raptors - Militia was a matchup a lot of people thought would be over fairly quickly, with a third seed team going up against the sixth seed militia. The series actually dragged out for 7 games, with the Militia winning and then beating the top seeded Whalers to earn a place in the Four Star Cup finals.

The Raptors had, however, looked on top of things coming into game 6. Up 3-2 in the series, they were looking to put the militia away on their own ice. They couldn't quite manage to do it, however, as a frenzied Militia home crowd gave their team the boost they seemingly needed, scoring a goal just past thirty seconds since puck drop. They carried that energy throughout the game, winning 4-2, and then returned to Colorado where they beat the Raptors 3-1.

Why did this happen? How did this happen? Well, while the series may have looked fairly even earlier, the Militia had actually been outshooting the Raptors by a significant amount. The Raptors goalie, Grim Wastlund, seemingly just came back down to earth. So, what could the Raptors have done? One priority for them this offseason has to be winning more faceoffs. Winning only 36 faceoffs to the Militia's 45, a better performance in the circle may have been able to save the Raptors from extinction.

Tokek is not in playoffs anymore. That is not good. But gives Tokek time to go, visit teams, train harder. Will win cup next year, but this year? Must travel. Will go visit teams - Noah says this is called 'road trip'. Will go to Seattle first. That is close by. Also must do well in IIHF. With Czechoslovakia. Czechoslovakia is like fake Indonesia, Tokek likes.

Performance in playoffs was so-so. Could be better, could be worse. Still not used to playing forward. Did not get as many goals as usual - will have to practice shooting with Greg. Lots of assists, though.

numero tres

Ok, let’s be honest for a second here. The Militia's top line were on fire throughout nearly every series they played, and were easily what pushed them over both the Colorado Raptors and the Vancouver Whalers. Dayymo Ralchankinov, Piotr Czerkawski, and Rádovän Hudeč combined for a total thirty four points throughout the first two rounds, with a combined +/- of 16. Compare this to the Kelowna Knight's top line, which had 29 points and a +/- of 10. Granted, the Militia played 4 more games than the Knights, but the disparity in these numbers still remains strong, especially as those four extra games for the Militia were losses.

The line that underperformed the most this postseason? A lot of people say that it’s probably the Colorado Raptors 2nd line, but I’d argue for that of the Whalers’ first. The combo of Alex Andani, Kristaps Ball, and Herb Robert that had been so lethal in the regular season just couldn’t seem to get it together, pulling together a measly 8 points with a +/- of 5. Although they only had five games to put up those points, compare this to the 108 points in 50 games and a +/- of 35 in the regular season and it’s easy to see how much this line is underperforming.

Playoff MVP is one of the most prestigious awards a SHL or SMJHL player can receive. There are plenty of good candidates on both teams, with the goalies for each, Kata Vilde and Walter Hobbs, standing on their heads game after game. However, there are two candidates who particularly stand out from the rest.

Iam Essellemm (Kelonwa Knights) - Looking at it all now, Essellemm is an easy choice for playoff mvp. With 22 points in only 15 games, and only 308 minutes total, Essellemm provides a compelling argument for his selection. Leading in points tends to do that to you, especially when you do end up winning it all.

Piotr Czerkawski (Montreal Militia) - Czerkawski is another distinctive candidate, however. Matching Essellemm's point total, albeit in several more games, Czerkawski played significantly better at even strength. Where Essellemm got 10 points off of the Knight's power play, Czerkawski only got half of that, 5.

Task #1

Task #2
The Kelowna Knights and the Detroit Falcons met in the first round of the SMJHL playoffs for what was looking like a one-sided matchup to begin with. Kelowna being the defending champs, and the Falcons coming off a weak end to their season. Now, the Falcons showed some promise early on in the season with a 7 game win streak and some promising prospects, however, this was not going to be their series to win. The major turning point in this series was when the final standings were released and the matchups were set. As soon as it was determined that the Falcons were going to up against the powerhouse Knights team, they had to feel the backs up against the wall.

The puck dropped on the series and the Falcons came out hard. They pushed both game in Kelowna to overtime and outshot the Knights on both evenings. However, the Knights ultimately took both game at home and headed into Detroit with a 2-0 lead in the series. Some people may say that turning point could also be game 3 in the series. After 2 hard fought games Detroit was returning home, hoping to even up the series on home ice; this is not what happened. The Knights came out and shelled the Falcons 10-5 in their own arena. A beating like that in front of your home crowd is definitely something that will take the wind out of your sails and ultimately lead to the end of Detroit’s season as the Knights finished up the sweep with a 3-1 victory in game 4.

Task #3
Thus far through the SMJHL playoffs there has only been one line that has completely come together to help propel their time. While Kelowna has some of the top scorers in the playoffs, this is mostly cushioned by their 10-5 beating of the Falcons in the first round. The Montreal Militia on the other hand have had their top line clicking together throughout the entire playoffs, but in their second-round series against Vancouver, they took it to the next level to push the Militia into the finals.

The line of Dayymo Ralchankinov, Piotr Czerkawski, and Radovan Hudec came together during their series against the Vancouver Whalers to take the Militia to the SMJHL finals. Czerkawski led the way with 7 points. Piotr netted 3 goals for the Militia, which included the series winning goal in game 5. Ralchankinov added 5 points for Montreal, followed by Hudec with 2 points. The top line for the Militia totaled 14 points over the 5-game series against Vancouver which makes it hard to argue against them being a dominating force throughout the series.

It is also easy to determine which line really needed to step it up in the playoffs and didn’t. That would be the second line of the Colorado Raptors; Mattias Enqvist, Gustav Helzberg, and Ryan Gardiner. Through their 7-game set with the Militia, this line managed only 6 combined points and were a combined -18. This is terrible no matter which way you look at. This line did not set up when needed, and it was one of the reasons the Raptors are on the golf course now, not on the ice.

Task #4
As the Raptors playoff run did not last past the first round, Maui’s audition for SHL GMs ahead of the draft will rely on his regular season efforts and the work he puts in during the off-season. In the regular season, Maui began to cement his place in the league as an up-and-coming defensive d-man from the very first puck drop, and finished the season making a strong case for SHL teams to take a hard look at his game. Maui finished with only 11 points but racked up 76 hits and 55 shot blocks while having a +9 rating at the end of the season. His off-season regime includes work to improve his skating and strength to make harder plays on the puck deep in his own zone. He also plans to work on his puck work to improve his zone exit abilities. He will definitely make himself a player for SHL GMs to watch.

Task 1
[Image: cws41.png]

Task 2
For the turning point of round one, we look at Game 6 where the Colorado Raptors hosted the Montreal Militia.  Montreal entered the match on the brink of elimination, down 3-2 in the series playing behind enemy lines.  As expected, the Militia came out strong as they potted two goals within the first five minutes of the game... one of which just 31 seconds into regulation time.  As the game progressed & after a long stretch of physical battles, the Raptors eventually pulled to within one with a goal mid-way through the second period.

Halfway through the third stanza, however, Raptors winger Vladimir Vaskov took an extremely untimely penalty with 10 minutes remaining in regulation.  Just a momentum seemed to be swinging in the home teams direction, Vaskov took a blatant holding penalty which cost them the potential swing in momentum.  In my opinion, this was the subtle yet pivotal turning point in this well-fought series from both sides.  Had Vaskov not taken that penalty, it could very well be argued that the Raptors would have tied it up, if not eliminated the Militia that night on home ice.  Instead, they went on to lose the game 4-2 and eventually the series in game seven.

Task 3
If you are searching for a line that completely dominated a series, you have to look no further than round one.  The Kelowna Knights made quick work of the Detroit Falcons in just four short games, and no shortage of that effort was attributed by their second line of Iam Essellemm, Xavier Paquette and Brock Becker.  They got off to a slow start after game one, totaling just one point but a +5 rating in the process.  As they entered game two of the series, they showed a little more life tallying one goal, two assists, seven shots and four blocked shots... a much better and well-rounded performance.

Game 3 will go down as one of the biggest playoff blowouts in SMJHL history, as the Knights dropped a 10 goal performance on Detroit's home ice.  This time the second line completely erupted, as expected.  They racked up an amazing four goals, eight assists and +11 rating... all through just eight shots on the goaltender.  During the final game of the series to complete the sweep, they posted another solid performance in the form of one goal, one assist, +2 rating, nine shots and two more blocked shots.  They have set the benchmark for dominant playoff lines.

Task 4
Although the St. Louis Scarecrows had a very brief stint in the playoffs, top SHL prospect Nicholas Falk is taking no time off.  Falk is projected to hear his name called within the first couple of picks come the SHL draft next week, and to no surprise.  He's been rumored to have spent time in the gym with fellow top prospects Rafe Ulrich and teammate Rowdy Smithers, hitting the weights and preparing for the next season.  Falk also sits atop his draft class in terms of TPE, and is one of the longest tenured recreates of the draft.  Not to mention his bank account, meaning top-shelf equipment and weekly training facilities come at little cost to him.

Task 5
Playoff MVP, almost the most prestigious award a single player can receive.  Let's take a look at each team's finalist from this year's playoffs:

Piotr Czerkawski (Montreal Militia) - It's hard not to choose a man not sitting atop the league in points, and this is no exception.  Piotr scoring at a blistering pace, putting up 22 points in just 19 games.  What's even more impressive is his ability to do so by staying clean, registering only a single penalty throughout (2 PIM).  He was shooting way above average, as he nearly hit the 21% mark.  As if that wasn't enough, he even took 19 faceoffs as a natural winger and won 1/4 of them.

Iam Essellemm (Kelonwa Knights) - As stated above, I'm going with the leading scorer here.  Essellemm also scored at an incredible rate, registering 21 points as well but only in 15 games.  Even more astounding is that Iam is a second-line player, not even getting top minutes.  Furthermore, he led his team in +/- with a +11 rating.  He also shot at a completion rate of 19% and even won 37% of faceoffs as a winger.

#7

Task #1

Task #2

Game 6 of the first round series between Montreal and Colorado was the turning point in this rare playoff meeting. The Raptors came into the game with a 3-2 series lead, and were looking to put the Militia away on their own turf in Montreal. With their season on the line the Militia pulled out a strong effort, led by big games from Walter Hobbs and Daniel Daniil. An energetic crowd can really make the difference, and you could tell that was the case in Montreal in game 6. The crowd was cheering from start to finish, and the Militia were feeding off that energy all game long to keep momentum on their side. They rode that momentum straight on back to Colorado for game 7 where they eliminated the Raptors with a 3-2 win. The series could have easily gotten away from the Militia after a tough loss in game 5, but they came out in game 6 with a goal 30 seconds in to ignite the crowd, played superb two way hockey the rest of the way, and frustrated the Raptors at every opportunity. What makes the loss even tougher for Colorado is that they really couldn’t have played much better. This was a very close series, and both teams looked dominant at times, but it was Montreal that just edged them out this time around. Hopefully a rematch is in the future for these two teams.

Task #3

Following game 4 against Colorado, the Militia had gone over two games without scoring a even strength. This was cause for concern in the locker room as the team badly needed to figure out a way to solve Grim Wastlund if they hoped to win the series. Montreal coaching staff worked with their top offensive lines to discuss strategies to finding new ways to attack and score on the Raptors. Piotr Czerkawski really responded to the coach’s wishes, and has been leading the Militia in scoring throughout these playoffs. His linemate Dayymo Ralchankinov has also been scoring at nearly a PPG pace since, and the two have been the driving force behind the Militia’s success so far. The Militia addressed an issue before it got out of hand, and while it didn’t immediately help them securing a win, they did respond with even strength goals in the following game. For negative impact you have to look at the Raptors inability to respond appropriately to Montreal’s bounce back game 6. They didn’t make the proper line changes to counter the Militia’s newly potent offense, and it ended up costing them this series. If Colorado had more focus on the tapes of game 6 they may have been able to pull out this one.

Task #4

Charlie Schieck has propelled his draft stock with an outstanding performance so far in this season’s SMJHL playoffs. With 8 points so far he leads Militia defensemen (2nd in league), and all rookies (1st in league). This comes following a good, not great, rookie season from the young Islander, and should contribute to making him stand out among his class. It is almost a guarantee that he will end up playing for the San Francisco Pride somehow some way once the draft is all said and done. GM Jeff Kirkstone has some tricks up his sleeve to make sure he lands the next great SHL player from PEI.

Task #5

When it comes to playoff MVP you have to discuss Iam Essellemm from Kelowna and Piotr Czerkawski from Montreal. Both players are coming into the finals with 15 points (6g/9a for Essellemm and 7g/8a for Czerkawski) but with Essellemm having done it in four fewer games played as a result of his team sweeping both playoff series so far. Czerkawski is also getting to see a lot more ice time, averaging about 3.2 minutes more per agem than Essellemm. When you compare their p/20 (1.08 for Czerkawski and 1.82 for Essellemm) the gap appears to widen further between the two. Both players have exceptional supporting casts to help them along, but they’ve both proven to be leaders on their team when it comes to offense. This series could come down to which team can score more, so the most valuable player will likely be whichever one of these players can elevate his game to another level for the finals.

Task #1 (this was a fun one)

Task #2

In the Round 1 playoff series between the Montreal Militia and the Colorado Raptors, I think that the turning point was definitely Game 6 - specifically, Daniel Daniil's goal early on in the third period. Daniil deflected a shot by Cody Johansen right into the Raptors' goal 4 minutes and 53 seconds into the 3rd period. Daniil's goal put the Militia up 3-1. Colorado scored again later in the period, but it wasn't enough for the Raptors to tie it up, much less win. The nail in the coffin in game 6 for the Raptors was Piotr Czerkawski's open net goal 2 seconds before the end of the game, which put the Militia up 4-2 and made it impossible for the Raptors to recover. It's also important to note that at this point in the series Colorado were up 3-2, so a single win would have been enough for them to win and move on to face the Whalers. However, the Militia forced Game 7, which they then won 3-2 to take the series. Game 7 was very close though, and the Raptors could've won it - in fact, they were actually leading 2-1 in the beginning of the third period, however Montreal scored 2 goals in the first 3 minutes, which was enough for them to take the win.

(218 words)

Task #3

The most positively influential line in the round 2 playoff series between the Vancouver Whalers and the Montreal Militia was the Militia's first line. The line consists of Dayymo Ralchankinov, Piotr Czerkawski (who is currently leading the Militia in the playoffs both in goals and assists) and Rádovän Hudeč. In the series, they contributed to 7 out of the Militia's 13 goals across the 5 games of the series. Out of those 7 goals, they scored 5 of them. In game 1, 3 of the Militia's 4 goals were scored or assisted on by the first line, including the OT game winner, which was scored by Ralchankinov. In game 2, the first line had a hand in 2 of the 4 goals the Militia scored. In both game 3 and game 5, the first line scored one goal. Looking at the stats of each of the players, Ralchankinov had 1 goal and 4 assists, Czerkawski had 3 goals and 4 assists and Hudeč had 2 assists. However, on the other side of the spectrum lies the Vancouver Whalers' 4th line. The Whalers' 4th line consists of Guts O'Bigbers, Noah Nowes and Mal Reynolds. This line had a combined total of 0 points (O'Bigbers did get an assist, however that was not on the 4th line). While this can be explained with the 4th line only getting 10% playtime, the Whalers also conceded 2 goals while this line was on the ice.

(241 words)

Task #4

Personally, my plan to get the attention of SHL GMs both in the playoffs and in the offseason is to try to be active in the SHL Discord to sort of let the GMs know that I exist, maybe chat with them a bit, maybe even make friends with some of them? Now of course that's not enough to get picked early on in the draft so what I'm also going to be doing is getting ALL of the TPE that I possibly can. I joined late - after the SMJHL regular season had already started - so the other rookies have an edge over me there, which to me just means that I need to work extra hard and get every single TPE that I can.

(125 words)

Task #5

In my opinion, the most valuable player for the Montreal Militia was Piotr Czerkawski. The Militia's first line right winger was a pleasure to watch on the ice these playoffs. He excelled with a total of 22 points across 19 games. Out of those 22, 9 were goals, which puts him at a tie for first with teammate Dayymo Ralchankinov and Kelowna's Iam Essellemm, and 13 were assists, putting him at a tie for second with Cody Johansen and - once again - Iam Essellemm. Czerkawski was also tied for second most hits of the playoffs with 28. Czerkawski was a key component in Montreal's run and without him the Militia would've likely fallen much earlier in the playoffs. Up against him is Kelowna's playoff MVP - Iam Essellemm. Essellemm was a dominating force in the playoffs. He tied Czerkawski in goals and assists (and points, obviously), with 9 goals and 13 assists for a total of 22 points. However, the difference between Essellemm and Czerkawski was that Essellemm scored his 22 points in 4 less games - Czerkawski did it in 19 and Essellemm did it in 15 games. He also took first place in playoff points per 20 minutes, with an incredible 1.43 P/20. He also had a +/- of 11, trumping Czerkawski's 9.

Task 2:

The Montreal Militia and Colorado Raptors series was a grueling 7 game battle. Both teams struggled to gain the upperhand, and there was no clear victor until the final whistle blew. After going down 2-1 in the series, the raptors stole a win in overtime of game 4 to even things out. They then went on to win game 5 6-4 with a decisive 4-0 run in the third period. This seemed like it would be the turning point in the series and Colorado would go on to play for their first championship in many seasons. But the Militia had a strong showing in game 6, defeating the Raptors 4-2. In a tension filled game 7, both teams got to work early, and the Raptors lead 2-1 after 1. The second period was a tale of strong defense and stronger goalies. Neither team scored, and they combined for 9 shots. Up until the 3rd period of game 7, this series was undecided. But 2 quick goals in the first 2 minutes of the 3rd period would seal the Raptors fate, and punch Montreal's ticket to the finals. There wasn't much Colorado could do to stop this, it was a series that was destined to be decided by a single bounce.

Task 3:

The most impressive line during these playoffs has been Kelowna's top line. Centered by Michael O'Dowd, with wingers Jacob Dorty and Daddy Mack, this line has been a goal scoring machine. Mack and Essellemm, another Kelowna winger, are tied for second most goals in the season 41 playoffs with 6, and Dorty has 11 assists, the most in the SMJHL. O'Dowd is helping feed the Knights' superstar wingers, contributing 5 points and a 53.2 faceoff percentage. This line, in addition to 4 SHL ready defenseman have led the Knights to a sweep of the Falcons, and now the Scarecrows. The Knights are the clear cup favorites, and be looking for Mack, Dorty, or Essellemm to be the playoff MVP.

On the other hand, a line that fell way short of expectations was the Detroit Falcons top line. Mikkel Hauggen, Lightning Jones, and Flacko Lagerfield all had strong seasons in Detroit, but they did not show up for the playoffs. First OA SHL draft pick and MVP candidate Flacko Lagerfield dissapeared completely, scoring 1 goal, 0 assists, and netting a -3 +/- in the Falcons 4 losses to Kelowna. Jones and Hauggen did a little more, putting up 4 and 3 points respectively, but the Falcons were counting on their top line and they did not deliver.

Task 4:

Scottey Crawfling knows that goalie positions in the SHL aren't just being given out. There is several other goalies in this draft, and he certainly wasn't considered the top of his SMJHL draft. After only appearing in several games for the Colorado Raptors, Crawfling hasnt accumulated any eye popping statistics. All he hopes for is that a SHL GM will notice his training and work ethic, and he will get his shot in the SHL one day. Crawfling has bought top tier equipment, had world class training weekly, always checked in, did his PTs, and now is grinding champions week instead of sitting back and watching the finals. Hopefully that is enough to get noticed.

Task 1 (hopefully this is enough im not good editing)

Task 2

Round 1 Kelowna Knight vs Detroit Falcons. first 2 games was very intense battles as both games ended in OT. The turning point of this battle definitely was game 3. Kelowna winning series 2-0 after close OT games Detroit wants to win next game. Game 3 starts in Detroit´s home arena. Kelowna starts their game well by leading the game 3-0 after 16:36 minutes of the game. Detroit fans are disappointed what they are seeing. Adidon Zuckerberg tryed to take Detroit back to the game by scoring few seconds after Kelowna´s third goal and narrows the game 3-1. But Iam Essellemm scores just when there is under 1 minute left in the 1st period. Score is 4-1 when teams are going to locker room. Something need to happen if Detroit wants come back to the game. 2nd period starts and game starts to be scoring party. Game ends 10-5 to Kelowna knights. that moment Detroit knew that their games were over. 10 to own net in front of home fans. Game 4 Detroit still tryed to fight against Kelowna, game was close but their playoff dreams falled to 7 penalties that they took. Kelowna sweeped Detroit and continue their back to back dream.

Task 4

Boris Denisovich knows that he isnt his draft class favourites as there is players that have played better in the season. Boris played fourth line minutes in regular season and was bench warmer in last games and in playoffs. He scored 1 goal and 6 assists in regular season. Scoring is one of his strengths, but he only did 1 goal which was disappointting Boris have worked hard to get back to the lineup and got motivation boost when he got invited for Russian national team. Boris is hoping that he gets playtime in the SMJHL finals.

Boris have done most of the PTs and grinding hard for the TPEs.

Task 5

Kelowna Knight´s mvp candidate must be Iam Essellemm. Jacob Dorty have also played well but I choose Iam. Iam have been amazing in s41 playoffs. In 8 games he have already done 15 points, which is tied with Montreal Militia´s Piotr Czerkawski who is in my option in Montreal´s mvp candidate, but let´s compare these guys stats.

Piotr have played 4 more games than Iam, but both have done 15 points. Piotr have 7 goals with 8 assists and Iam have 6 goals and 9 assists. In +/- Iam have +8 and Piotr +6.

Piotr have done most impact in Montreal´s attack thats why he is Montreal´s mvp candidate. There isn´t any other players who could win mvp in Montreal.

Piotr is one step closer in mvp than Iam as Montreal is leading the series 1-0, but let´s hope Kelowna ties series in next game. I believe Iam helps Kelowna for the back to back.

Task #1

Task #2
Kelowna Knights vs. Detroit Falcons – Game 3

I would definitely say that this game was the turning point in the whole series, specifically the first period. After 20 minutes, the Knights led the Falcons by a score of 4-1. This was not the start that Detroit had wanted from its players. While Detroit had lost the previous two games of the series, they were both overtime losses. If Detroit had started strong, and pushed the intensity right from the puck drop, this game (and the entire series), could have ended quite differently. This was not the case, unfortunately for Detroit. Game 3 ended in a final score of 10-5, in favour of the Knights.

I wanted to highlight the performance of two Kelowna players in Game 3. The first player is Iam Essellemm, who scored 1 goal and 5 assists. Iam had 21 goals and 20 assists during the regular season, so it was nice to see his playmaker side come out in this important game. The other player is Darren McCarty, the 3rd pairing Defenseman. He scored a hat-trick this game, which is incredibly impressive considering he only scored two goals all season. This kind of secondary scoring is one of the many reasons why Kelowna is in the finals.

Task #3
The second line for the Kelowna Knights consisting of Iam Essellemm, Brock Becker, and Xavier Paquette has been dominant over the past two series wins. Paquette has a solid 8 points in 8 games, but it's Becker and Essellemm that have terrorized oppenents lately. Essellemm leads the playoffs in scoring with 15 points, and Becker isn't too far behind with 11. What's even more impressive is the fact that Essellemm played 8 games total, since Kelowna has swept both of their opponents in the first two rounds. Montreal's players have played 12 games, winning a 7 game series against Colorado, and then moving on to beat Vancouver in 5 games.

In terms of the biggest negative impact, I'm going to bring up not just one line, but two. The top two forward lines for the St. Louis Scarecrows had a fantastic regular season, leading the team to a two-way tie for first place. This success all came to an abrupt halt when they played Kelowna in the Semi-Finals. Paddy O'Sullivan, who was 4th in the league in regular season scoring, could only muster one assist in the four games that St. Louis played. Jack Daniels finished respectively, with two goals and two assists in the playoffs, but his 10 PIMs must have hurt the team significantly as well.

Task #4
With the Prince George Firebirds finishing just outside of 6th place, Jordan von Matt has been unable to further showcase his skills in the SMJHL playoffs. This hasn't deterred him though, as he began training almost immediately, only taking a week long break to Mexico to relax. He's done every PT that's been asked of him so far, and is very close to top 10 of all S42 draftees in terms of TPE. While Jordan didn't have the most stellar year points wise, he was a huge minutes eater for the Firebirds, playing on the top Defensive pairing. He logged over 23 minutes a game and managed to shut down many top scores in Prince George's final games.

Hoping to lead Prince George to a Cup run in the coming years, Jordan von Matt is not considered a “sexy” pick. But he's a core piece that a lot of SHL teams are in need of right now, and has the potential to be a top pairing Defenseman that can eat some serious minutes.

Task #5
Montreal Militia

Walter Hobbs practically willed the Militia into the finals all by himself. I don't want to say that he wasn't helped by the rest of his Montreal teammates. The Militia's top offensive line certainly produced, and was one of the factors to Montreal's success, but Hobbs' stat lines speak for themselves. Finishing with a .905% save percentage, and a 2.46 GAA, Hobbs' lead all goalies in these categories. His final playoff record ended at 11-5-3, which doesn't seem that amazing compared to Kata Vilde's 12-3, but Hobbs' faced 503 shots total compared to Vilde's 321. Hobbs was peppered constantly, and lead his team to the finals, which is why I chose him for Montreal's MVP.

Kelowna Knights

Iam Essellemm is the clear MVP for Kelowna. Finishing with 9 goals, 13 assists and a +11, he had an astounding 1.47 points per game. What's even more impressive is that Essellemm is on Kelown's 2nd line, and not their first. He does still get time on the 1st powerplay unit (in which he got 10 of his points), but it'll be interesting to see what Kelowna does with their lines next year, depending on what their lineup will be looking like after both the SHL and SMJHL drafts.

Quote:Task #4 - With the SHL draft looming in the shadow of playoffs, tell us how you're going to distinguish yourself to SHL GMs during your cup run or the beginning of your offseason.
Must include: 100 words.

Buck Maverick doesn't care about distinguishing himself for SHL GMs. Buck knows that whatever team ends up drafting him, and whenever they do it he will prove himself the way he has his whole life when he gets onto the ice for training, practice, and in the game. There is no flashiness about Buck's game, he isn't the kind of player to make highlight reels or have professional scouts ranting and raving for weeks on end leading up to the draft. Buck is very confident about his abilities and isn't afraid to say it, but he also knows that what he does best is get out there and do his damn job and do it well. Let the other guys worry about trying to prove something.

Task 1

Task 2
Colorado Raptors vs Montreal Militia was as classic a series as you are going to get. A back and forth affair of the highest degree. Colorado took game 1, Montreal games 2 and 3, Colorado would tie the series with an OT winner in game 4 and even take a series lead in game 5. From there on, it was all Montreal who gutted it out for a 2 goal victory in game 6 and a 1 goal victory in game 7. For my turning point, I am choosing the first goal in game 7. With the series tied at 3 games apiece, the team with the most momentum was going to come out on top. With the home crowd firmly behind them, Montreal Militia player Daniel Daniil would score his first goal of the playoffs just 31 seconds into the game. That early goal put the momentum firmly behind Montreal as they increased their lead just 4 minutes later to 2-0. Colorado would make it 2-1 in the second, but it wouldn’t be enough to turn the tide. This game could have just as easily gone Colorado’s way. They showed they can win on the road in Game 4. If they had been able to swing one more away game their way they could have taken the series.

Task 3
My choice best line combination would be line 2 of the Kelowna Knights. This line consisted of Iam Essellemm, Brock Becker, and Xavier Paquette. Essellemm has scored 15 points, making him the playoff leader (6 goals, 9 assists in 8 games). Becker follows him with 11 (4 goals, 7 assists in 8 games). Xavier Paquette scored 8 points, including several in game 3 allowing Kelowna to take a game on the road, earning him first star honors. These massive points were scored in just 8 games, as Kelowna swept the first two series. One can only imagine how many points they could have scored in two 7-game series.

As far as a line that didn’t produce quite as much as would be expected would the Detroit Falcons first line. Kelowna was able to sweep the series, and for good reason. Flaco Lagerfield was only able to score 1 goal in the series. His plus minus was an abysmal -3. Lightning Jones did the best of the 3, scoring 4 points total with a +1 rating. Mikkel Hauggen was able to score 3 points with a similar +1 rating. I’m sure Detroit was expecting a lot more from their top line and unfortunately for them, the boys were unable to deliver. While they sat at home the rest of the playoffs, they had to watch Kelowna go all the way to the finals.

Task 4
During the offseason, Geezus Kryyst has been hard at work improving his physicality. The biggest attributes he’s been working on is size and agility. To increase his size, Geezus has hit the gym hard. Weightlifting, squats, tethered runs. He’s even begun training with WWE Superstar John Cena. As for agility, Geezus has been running ropes, catching tennis balls off a wall, and ballroom dancing. Geezus had a pretty solid rookie season as a backup and expects to improve on that next season. Geezus went early in the second round of the SMJHL draft, and he hopes to go even higher in the SHL draft. Time will tell.

Task 5
My choice for the MVP of the playoffs from the Montreal Militia is Piotr Czerkawski. Piotr is tied for the most points scored in the playoffs at 15. Of those 15 points, 7 were from goals, and 8 were assists. Piotr also was able to maintain a +6 rating, which was tied for the best on his team. Piotr also managed to be quite a thread on the powerplay, scoring 1 goal and 2 assists. Defensively, Piotr w was able to block two shots. Additionally Piotr made a respectable 14 hits. For these reasons, I have chosen Piotr Czerkawsi as the playoffs MVP from Montreal.

My choice for the MVP of the playoffs from the Kelowna Knights is Iam Essellemm. Like Czerkawski, Iam leads the league in points at 15. He also maintained a +8, which was tied for the best on his team. Essellemm was a beast on the poweplay, punishing opponents for bad discipline. He had 1 goal on the powerplay, but 6 assists. Kelowna was hungry and Essellemm was there to feed them. Defensively, Essellemm had 10 hits and one shot blocked. What makes these numbers all the more impressive is that Iam Essellemm was able to do this in just 8 games.

Task #2:

The turning point in the first round series between the Montreal Militia and the Colorado Raptors happened in the third period of Game 6. Colorado were up in the series 3-2 and going into the third period, they were leading the game 2-1. They were feeling mighty good about their chances of advancing into the next round. Then Piotr Czerkawski scored the tying goal 35 seconds in. No big deal. Tied game. Then Rahotep Tutankhamun scored a minute and thirty seconds later to make it 3-2 Montreal. But the actually turning point happened between 3:44 and 5:44 of the third period.

Rafe Ulrich took a god damn penalty for tripping. So, after two quick goals by the Militia, the Raptors have a great chance to grab the momentum back by having a strong power play and tying the game up. They score the goal and crush the Militia's spirit, and likely take the game in overtime. They don't score on the power play and the Militia squeak out a win and go into game 7 with all the momentum, putting the Raptors at an extreme disadvantage.

Their PP let them down this time, and they were given one more opportunity in Game 6 to score that tying goal, but failed and got beaten in Game 7. Now they golf and the Montreal Militia made it all the way to Game 7 of the Four Star Cup Finals.

Task #3:

The line that had the greatest impact during the SMJHL playoffs was the top line of the Montreal Militia, consisting of Dayymo Ralchankinov, Piotr Czerkawski and Rádovän Hudeč, our European superstars. In the first two series, versus the Colorado Raptors and Vancouver Whalers, the line scored 13 goals and added 21 assists for 34 points in 12 games. They scored some big goals, mostly from *would be* playoff MVP Piotr Czerkawski (if Walter Hobbs didn't exist) and were *the* reason (if Walter Hobbs didn't exist) that the Militia have made it all the way to Game 7 of the finals. To answer the question though, they made the biggest impact in all the series because they were clutch as fuck.

The line that had the greatest impact negatively on a series in the playoffs were the Colorado Raptors second line of Mattias Enqvist, Gustav Helzberg and Ryan Gardiner. Sure, they produced 2 goals and 6 points, but they were all (minus Ryan Gardiner's 1 assist) on the power play. The line was a combined -18 in the 7 games when the majority of the rest of the team were plus players. The 2nd line really let the team down and could have been the only reason why the favoured Raptors lost to the underdog Militia.

-214 words-

Task #4:

How am I, future Hall of Famer Harvey Danger going to distinguish myself around draft time to the SHL GM's? Well, I hear GM's really like you to be active socially, so I'll likely spam some hella threads showing my more sensitive and softer side. Once they are sucked in, I'll make my move, infiltrating their team forums forever. Or, I'll just disappear and some lucky GM will pick me in the 4th round and they'll get a hell of a diamond in the rough. Or perhaps I'll just retire because it's unfair that not all the GM's can have me as a player.

-103 words-

Task #5:

The fight for the MVP was supposed to come down to both goaltenders, but unfortunately Kata Vilde has struggled when faced with actual competition (unlike his first two rounds).

The first MVP candidate is obviously WALTER HOBBS from the Montreal Militia.

Through the first two rounds, Hobbs stole the show, posting the best stats out of any of the goalkeepers. He went 8-2-2 with a .915 SV% and 2.09 GAA while being named 1st star twice. In the Four Star Cup Finals, he is 3-3 and was a large reason why the club has made it to the 7th game against the favoured Kelowna Knights. The team has been outshot tremendously through 6 games and Hobbs has been the better goaltender, which is a large reason why this series isn't already over.

On Kelowna's side, the MVP candidate has to be center IAM ESSELLEMM, who has collected 8 goals and 12 assists for 20 points in these playoffs so far. The 1-2 punch down the middle of Dorty and Essellemm have been dynamic, but Essellemm has performed just slightly better and has been the offensive leader through their 14 games. He's played well in the finals, but it was the first two rounds where he put up 15 points in 8 games, that really solidified his stance as MVP of not only the Kelowna Knights, but perhaps the entire SMJHL playoffs.

Task 4
I'm a guy who likes to speak with my actions. My first regular season wasn't all that I'd hope it'd be, but I played well defensively. I came alive in the playoffs and put up 4 points in our 7 game series, and I'm just going to get better.

GMs know where I come from and what I can be. If you want a good defenseman who'll put up some points for you and work towards being a top pairing guy for a long time, pick me up. I'm working out every week and I'm committed to being the best. Looking forward to the draft.

Task 5
MVP for Kelowna: Iam Essellemm
Essellemm led the Knights with 22 points and was tied with Czerkawski, but did so in 4 less games then Czerkawski. They also posted a solid +11 and that was with 10 of their points coming on the man advantage, so that number is effectively much higher. A clutch player who notched 2 game winners over the course of the playoffs. They weren't shy to throw their body around with 16 hits in 15 games played and took their fair share of abuse as Essellemm was relied on heavily by Kelowna playing over 20 minutes a game.

Did I mention they did all this playing on the second line?

MVP for Montreal: Piotr Czerkawski
Czerkawski posted a very similar stat line to Essellemm but had 4 extra games to put up points. 9-13-22 with a +9 rating, 18 hits but over 22 minutes played on average every night. He was certainly an Impact for Montreal. Czerkawksi was pretty damn accurate with a 20.45% shooting percentage, so when he took a shot the opposing goalie had to be aware it was coming.

Ultimately I think Essellem did more to help the Knights win and had the best performance in the post-season.
