The S46 SHL Draft For People In a Hurry
#1

(1980 Words, 2x Media(?))

Did you miss the draft but don't want to scroll through dozens of posts to find the info you're looking for? You've come to the right (?) place. This is an attempt to look at each team's draft in a shortened form. Whether this works or not is up to you but I'm trying anyways.

Without further ado:

Stampede Buffalo Stampede Stampede
4th Overall - Monkey D. Luffy, Lions
18th Overall - Kalevi Karhunen,  Armada
19th Overall - Bobby Sharp, Knights
28th Overall - Kristoffer Svensson, Militia
34th Overall - Raino Kyllonen, Falcons
35th Overall - Johnny Sins, Armada
51st Overall - Eric Vanderberg, Raptors
62nd Overall - Yuri Ushakov, Raptors

Buffalo's draft was busy but effective. Getting Monkey D. Luffy (my bestie) at 4th should help bolster the offense once he's called up. Add in Kalevi Karhunen and Bobby Sharp and their early draft was a huge success. They also drafted Raino Kyllonen later on, who was a great mid-round pick. Overall, an incredibly solid draft for Buffalo.

Dragons Calgary Dragons Dragons
16th Overall - Brendan Kennedy Jr., Lions
22nd Overall - Barry Batsbak, Knights
23rd Overall - Chico Smeb, Raptors
39th Overall - Bernik Vrzala, Whalers
60th Overall - Oliver Klozoff, Militia
69th Overall - Olin O'Dowd, Militia

The Dragons needed to address Defense this draft, and they did that well: they drafted Brendan Kennedy Jr. and Bernik Vrzala. Both should help out the bottom end of the defensive holes (Kennedy will start the season in Calgary). Otherwise, their draft was pretty standard.

syndicate Chicago Syndicate syndicate
21st Overall - Kit Smeb, Falcons
26th Overall - Eva Lykke Aparjode, Lions
30th Overall - Daniel Smeb, Raptors
36th Overall - Parker Smeb, Raptors
44th Overall - Tibuk Soonika, Outlaws
59th Overall - Liam Hutchinson, Knights
67th Overall - Dylan Karlsson, raiders
68th Overall - Jules Watt, Raptors
76th - Big Fudge, Knights
78th - Jaco Petermen, Outlaws
79th Overall - Backdoor Barnacle, Whalers
85th Overall - Steve Craig Smeb, Raptors
100th Overall - Billy Sorokin, Scarecrows

Chicago's gameplan was simple: get as many prospects as possible. They then proceded to take the best available pick on the board as they saw fit. The two big names to come out of their draft were Kit Smeb and Eva Lykke Aparjode, who will no doubt be two pieces going forward. For now, at least, Chicago is going with the slow-cook method: most of their roster is young, and will probably not be in contention for a while. Despite the waiting game, an overall solid job by Chicago on drafting.

Blizzard Edmonton Blizzard Blizzard
50th Overall - Taisei-Tiikeri Wawazat, Scarecrows
54th Overall - James Truong, Militia
64th Overall - Cant Eykhll, Lions
80th Overall - Hans Zucker, Militia
96th Overall - Touncy Bitties, raiders
112th Overall - Karlstaβe Scholz, Knights

Karlstaβe Sholz was pretty much the only highlight from the Bizzard's draft, other than taking a player that scored 0 goals and 0 assists at 54th overall... with plenty of other options. Anyway, Scholz should be a great addition to Edmonton no matter where he plays in the lineup when he comes up.

Steelhawks Hamilton Steelhawks Steelhawks
1st Overall - Nikolai Evans, Militia
2nd Overall - Anastasia O'Koivu, Raptors
9th Overall - Kalvins Zvejnieks, Falcons
38th Overall - Brock Emmerton, Armada
41st Overall - Fork Spoon, Scarecrows
61st Overall - Aleksi O'Koivu-Volkova, Militia
70th Overall - Jakub Hasek, Falcons
86th Overall - Gabster TheMagnificent, Falcons

Hamilton got to work this draft, as they managed to obtain 3 first rounders, all within the top 10. How well did they do? Fairly well. Even though they did pass up on Cannellini, they got great prospects in Nikolai Evans, Anastasia O'Koivu, and Kalvins Zvejnieks, who are projected to be incredibly valuable to te Steelhawks going forward. Afterward, it was business as usual, taking two goalies in the later rounds.

Panthers Los Angeles Panthers Panthers
10th Overall - Borromini Cannellini, Whalers
42nd Overall - Eddy Ask Jr., Whalers
57th Overall - Egor Kucherov,  Whalers
74th Overall - Max Rockatansky, Outlaws

LA got a steal at 10 with Cannellini, who unexpectedly dropped 4 positions from where he was projected to go preceding the draft. Cannellini should provide LA with another forward to their ever-growing arsenal. Add in Egor Kucherov (who I might add was also a steal) and Eddy Ask Jr., and you have a trio that should make some noise.

Rage Manhattan Rage Rage
8th Overall - Andrej Doskocil, raiders
32nd Overall - Peter Larson, Armada
56th Overall - David Vent, Knights
72nd Overall - Zach Laliberte, Knights

The main piece to look at here is Peter Larson. He was a solid goaltender for Anchorage and is one of the better goalie prospects of the draft. Otherwise, nothing to write home about.

Chiefs Minnesota Chiefs Chiefs
5th Overall - Mathias Seger, Outlaws
13th Overall - Jerry "The Snake" Mander, Outlaws
29th Overall - Collin Gibbles, Outlaws
45th Overall - Casmir Stevens, Whalers

Like Manhattan, the main focus here was the goalie, Casmir Stevens. Stevens was very much considered one of, if not, the best goalie prospect coming into the draft. Unlike Manhattan, however, their return on the other picks were worthwhile, with Jerry Mander being their best pick in terms of forward production.

Wolfpack New England Wolfpack Wolfpack
7th Overall - Perry Morgan, raiders
12th Overall - Gordie Boomhover, Scarecrows
15th Overall - Guy Zheng, Knights
37th Overall - Dick Clapper, Knights

New England, while having only a handful of picks, made use of each pick. All three first-round picks were solid selections, as well as Dick Clapper at 37. Overall, nothing to complain about here.

Specters New Orleans Specters Specters
6th Overall - Jimmy Slothface, raiders
20th Overall - Michael Fox, Scarecrows
47th Overall - Mike Hunt, Outlaws
48th Overall - Osbert Whacker, Outlaws
52nd Overall - Basil Magnicotta, Scarecrows

Unlike their expansion brethren, New Orleans opted for a "compete now" mentality, as shown by their Free Agent signings. That doesn't mean that their draft was uneventful, however: All 5 picks were incredibly solid, with all of them having similar production last season. It seems New Orleans is trying and succeeding to build the best team possible before the beginning of the season.

pride San Francisco Pride pride
17th Overall - Knute Knurtsson, Raptors
33rd Overall - Nathan Explosion, Knights
49th Overall - Patrice Nadeau, Lions
65th Overall - Yoshimitsu McCloud, Outlaws
77th Overall - Lee Marshall,  Scarecrows
81st Overall - Ricardo Cotalay, Armada

San Francisco focus on this draft seemed to overtake all, as they took two goalies and 4 unimpressive forwards. For now, the Pride have an up-and-coming goalie tandem to take care of, as well as training their other picks to get them to playoff caliber.

Barracuda Tampa Bay Barracuda Barracuda
3rd Overall - Oliver Cloutier, Armada
14th Overall - Matt Kholin, raiders
24th Overall - Jøln DuBølk, Lions
66th Overall - Lunga Gumba, Falcons

Tampa had few picks this draft but did justice with the ones they had: great forward prospects in Cloutier and Kholin, a solid defenseman in DuBølk, and living meme Lunga Gumba. Their main focus is on the next draft, where they have 3 first round picks to work with. For now, this draft was a success.

Renegades Texas Renegades Renegades
46th Overall - Tyler Tougard, Scarecrows

As you can see, the Renegades had a very busy draft.

Jokes aside, the Renegades got a steal at 46 with Tougard. Being a championship caliber team, they didn't need a whole lot to fill on the roster, but Tougard will be a solid option to put on the roster eventually.
Stars Toronto North Stars Stars
25th Overall - Troy Reynolds, raiders
40th Overall - Mike McKorsy, raiders
43rd Overall - Valeri Tikhonov, Scarecrows
58th Overall - Donny McMasters, Lions

Toronto definitely made heads turn at the draft by taking Troy Reynolds, a player with an undeniably brash personality. While their 2nd and 3rd picks were par for the course, Toronto made a good move to get Donny McMasters at 58th, a major steal considering his SMJHL season stats.

Platoon West Kendall Platoon Platoon
31st Overall - Gaspard Boone, raiders
55th Overall - Petr Mikulak, Whalers
63rd Overall - Aleksander Scherbak, Knights
95th - Ethan Ross, raiders

Overall, nothing impressive from West Kendall. More than likely some bottom 6/bottom pairing guys to fill the roster.

Jets Winnipeg Jets Jets
11th Overall - Nick Brain, Raptors
27th Overall - Michael Scarn, Raptors
53rd Overall - Commander Shepard, Militia
75th Overall - Dickens Makeout King, Lions

Nothing to really get excited about here. The Jets shockingly took Nick Brain 11th, when he wasn't projected to go near that pick. While Makeout-King was a great pick at 75, there wasn't too much for Jets fans to get excited about.

...and there we have it: every team's draft in a shortened form. This was my first attempt at something like this, and I hope I can get better in the future and continue to do something like this.
