Staying up to a nice and late 5:30 P.M. Chitters crawled out of his bed in his den to turn on the TV, excited to see where he may be drafted in SMJHL. Just as he figured he wasn't in the first round he stood up to leave to grab a drink in the kitchen when he heard his name as pick #16 for the Carolina Kraken. After a quick celebration Jumbose ran off to his room to get packing and caught the earliest flight to Carolina.
Upon landing, the team had help set Chitters and all his fellow draftees up with temporary lodging as we learned the area. He quickly had to adapt to the new schedule as apparently not just the time zones changed, but everyone in the SMJHL play at completely different hours versus his home league in the Seattle Underground. Everyone welcomed Chitters and the new draftees with open arms as they all piled on to help them get situated with the new locker room and begin bonding with the whole team.
Charles was very apprehensive about coming to Detroit, as he knew absolutely nothing about the city save that it was the place where Eminem was from, and they apparently had good pizza. He was able to link up with Stanislaw Uljevic as they were both new to the team and the pair managed to find themselves a place with some good Detroit pizza and Charles was immediately very pleased with that particular find. He was a bit touched to find, when he reached his space in the locker room, to find that someone had thoughtfully placed a little Monaco flag decal next to his name. The first thing out of his bag to decorate his cubby a little was the last family picture taken while his papa was still alive and a picture of Charles when he was only three or four, his father patiently holding onto his hands as he was guiding him on the ice his first time skating. He would always carry the memories and wisdom of his father with him, but Charles was always going to wish that Herve was there to see his success. Still, as he started to get to know the rest of the Falcons, he felt like he had managed to land somewhere that was going to be good for him and Charles was looking forward to where the season was going to take him.
Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.
Moving from Europe over the ocean to Anchorage, Alaska is no small task. Perry Fields made the long trip across the world to pursue his hockey career in North America. He did not know much about the city and was a little bit nervous about moving his life to a new country to play against and with players that he had never met before. The hockey world in Great Britain is a lot smaller and tighter than the North American hockey world. Luckily, he had a great supporting cast of Armada players that welcomed him to the city with open arms. Perry was soon united with his teammates and made the best of a scary situation. The first friend that he made on the team was none other than Rocko Kirkby, a fellow rookie. The two met in the locker room and bonded over a shared sense of humour - Perry can't get enough of Rocko's signature deadpan style. As he gets more comfortable in thsi new world and acquanites himself with his new teammates, Perry will only grow and get better as a player.
It was not really hard for Rocko Kirkby to settle in Anchorage. After all he spent many years of his youth in and around the city as both his father and grandfather played for the Armada at the start of their careers and the family has kept a spralling estate on the outskirts of the city ever since the days that Rex moved from Anchorage to West Kendall following his call up to the big league. So Rocko knows the city or what would probably be more accurately described as a town after spending most of his early years in comparatively large Boston, Atlanta and Philadelphia. Most people around the town know the Kirkby's pretty well as a result and that means that Rocko is made to feel welcome where ever he goes and now it is just a matter of putting it together on the ice so that the locals have something to cheers about over the next few seasons.

Shio Corin was already in St. Louis as a UDFA. He rented out a conference room in the hotel he was staying at to watch the draft with some friends, family, and fans. Shio had no idea where he might be drafted but was holding out hope that it would be to St. Louis somehow. Then the trade happened. St. Louis traded up to pick number two and selected Shio. Shio celebrated that night with his family and friends. The next morning the Scarecrows sent a car to the hotel Shio was living out of. The car was set to take Shio to the arena to see the locker room for the first time. Up until this point as a UDFA Shio had only been to the practice rink. As the car approached the arena the excitement grew inside Shio. The car parks and Shio steps out of it, on the front of the arena is a giant banner with Shio's face on it that reads "Welcome to the Scarecrows Shio Corin!" He's escorted into the building and down into the hallway outside of the team's locker room. Waiting for him outside are Toivo Jokinen and Jean Bon. Shio had become friends with these players while training during the playoff run and they were all happy to see each other. Toivo and Jean immediately spray Shio with champagne as they all yell out in excitement. Finally, after the champagne runs out and the cheering dies down, Toivo and Jean push open the doors to the locker room and allow Shio to enter for the first time. Shio's eyes scan across the room seeing all the lockers and pictures on the wall. He is almost overwhelmed by the realization that his dream is now a reality. His eyes then find his jersey. Hanging in his locker he sees his name and the number 60 and smiles ear to ear. He walks up to his locker and sits down still smiling. Toivo and Jean still congratulating him as he sits there, then Toivo hands him the business card of a real estate agent. Shio looked at it and realized that he had been living out of a hotel, and it was now time to find a more permanent place to live.
– “Back to Carolina, Pick 75. And they will be picking up.. Joe McPadstack!”
The Family – “celebrating and screaming”
Mom – “mom crying” I’m so happy for you Joe!!! Dad – Yeah congratulations, I’m so proud of you son.
The day after the Draft
Yeah so the day after the draft was tense and a bit surreal, didn’t know if I was dreaming or not, but yeah. Packed my stuff and got everything done to head of to the John Lennon Airport, Liverpool. I got to the airport and hugged my mom and dad goodbye and then the journey started for real this time. Boarded the plane and sat down in my seat, and the hit me like “I’m actually going to US to play in the SMJHL”.
Yeah so, first I need to take the plane to Dublin airport in Ireland before I could fly to Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina.
1h later…
Yeah some Pokémon Emerald and Coke Zero later and we are in Dublin. I needed to wait a few minutes before I could board the next flight but it wasn’t a huge deal.
7h 55min later…
Touch down Carolina! A black cab was waiting for me outside the airport and when I got out, was I greeted by a really kind woman named Chloe who helped me with all my stuff. She drove me first to my temporary rental apartment so I can get all of my non hockey stuff out of the car. Because the next stop was »Spectrum Center«, to see the lockerroom and get a tour of the place.
Chloe – Here we are, Spectrum Center.
Yeah and when I stepped my foot inside the Arena I knew this was the right thing for me to be apart of. I was greeted by Erikki Kailia who just finished his first rookie season in the SMJHL with Carolina and he just wanted to personally welcome me to Carolina and that he believes that this is the best place in the league as a rookie.
The Day after…
The first real day in Carolina was contact day. I signed my first rookie contract along side my new rookie teammates Jumbose Chitters, Five Hole Goes West, Helmfried Kunkel, Luis Fenstermacher, David LaCroix, James Beauregard and Neely.
Roy Deez Rivers was very excited about the draft. Would he be a first rounder? That was a stretch. A second rounder? Still unlikely. Probably third rounder or later, was what Roy thought.
Well, Roy was very surprised to be picked early in the second round, by the Nevada Battleborn. Looking back at the scouting conversations, maybe it wasn’t so crazy that Roy would get picked this high. When Roy arrived in Nevada, he was right away picked up at the airport by the General Manager John Kennedy. During the ride to the Battleborn facilities Kennedy put Rivers at ease regarding the team and what was expected of him. Roy was very nervous, but finally those nerves were being put to rest.
At the team facilities, he met team captain Claude L’Castor, the impressive goalie of the team. Helped Roy get acquainted with everyone on the team, including staff. Gave him a tour of the facilities, and showed where the Battleborn locker room was.
If early Roy was nervous, now he was very excited to get this season going, so he went right away to the gym, getting some more TPE, building himself up to help the team win games.
Canada is cold. And it is boring. When Iam Essellemm Jr. then heard he was being drafted out of Canada, and into San Diego, whew he was excited. I mean what isn't there to be excited about. San Diego is a beautiful city full of beautiful people. Getting to be here as a young man in your late teens and then into your early 20s is a dream come true. This is what he's always wanted. And now he's gonna learn how to surf and eat a ton of seafood and is going to really enjoy getting all this San Diego stuff. I hear there's some good beer and breweries and the like so I'm sure he will be doing that as well on top of everything else - it's a blast. Was he happy he fell so far in the draft? Absolutely not and it's probably pretty ridiculous that he has given his skill set and all but whatever he will prove people wrong and he is very very excited to be in a great city now
Draft day has come and again, but the experience will always be remembered by those who took part in it. Especially for those who had their names called and got to do the incredible walk up to the stage to put on their new jerseys. For Zara Wolf, it was a long wait. A lot of teams chose a PASS instead of selecting which is incredibly shocking to a lot of people. It made the wait for Wolf a lot longer but the wait was worth it. They were selected 88th overall (which is crazy) by the Thunder Bay Walleye. After the moment happened Wolf was talking to reporters and had this to say:
"They skipped me, who cares. I don't want to play there then. I know this agency has a lot of work to prove some things. No hard feelings really. It's a shame some people cast judgement without educating themselves but welcome to the league and to 2025. I'm VERY happy in Thunder Bay. The agency has been all over the map with where they've gone and this might be one of the top experiences - though, there's some tough ones to top."
She was soon seen travelling on plane to Thunder Bay and quickly got accustomed with her teammates, the facilities and the city.
"It's a nice place. Canada is home for me, so there won't be any issues. The management is incredible, the teammates and family here are so kind and fun to be around. We're a building team, but I think we're really going to make something special here and you know, they got a top player for an 88th overall pick. It's super exciting for the opportunity to burn all these other teams".
Chase stepped off the rickety "bus", gear bag slung over his shoulder, and simply shivered and stared. He was from England, for Christ's sake, and it simply did not get this cold on a regular basis there. Ironic that he cares about cold, as he plays a sport known for being located on ice, but the irony escapes him as much as his body heat does. Should've worn a scarf or neck warmer. You lose a lot of heat in the neck.
"Yukon, eh? Well, I do hope the reception I get from my new mates is warmer than the air temperature." Chase shuddered, and began to gingerly trod his way towards the arena doors, taking care not to break a bone or two by slipping and falling on the dangerous frozen ground. Ice is definitely easier to navigate with thin blades strapped on one's feet.
Chase had heard stories about Yukon, the remoteness, the isolation, the fluffy mascot puppies. He was ready to experience all of this, ESPECIALLY THE FRIGGING PUPPIES. BRING CHASE ALL THE MALAMUTE PUPPIES!
Caline DeBine had the best experience of his life at draft day. He got drafted by his hometown team and he was in tear when they called his name. He did fall in the third round but for him, going back to Quebec is the best outcome possible. When he arrived at Quebec City, the first two people to welcome him were his general manager, Ramen and the first general manager of this organization, Ewok. They had a pleasant conversation about their expectations for the team and Caline. Right after that, he visited the locker room with his fellow rookies. They spend a lot of time together talking about their experience so far. Since Caline knows the city so well, he gave them a quick tour of the city. It was a great moments for them to be bonding. After that, he met his new teammate Greg Evil, who gave him some advice on playing at the juniors.
For Matteo St. Ark, draft day was a bit of a roller coaster. His father, Jon, was a highly touted goalie prospect and went in the first round in his draft, going on to having a great career with the Vancouver Whalers. Matteo was in the big room during the draft, expecting to go early to one of the top teams. However, things did not go quite according to plan. The first round came and went, and Matteo’s name was not called. Then the second round started, and progressed and progressed, and Matteo St. Ark’s name still wasn’t read. Then the third round began and finally Matteo was taken the Colorado Raptors. This was unexpected, and initially Matteo was disappointed but then realized that this was going to be a tremendous opportunity. He was going to be with a new team, free of expectation and in position to make his own name for himself. Since being drafted by Colorado, Matteo as embraced his new teammates and is focusing on becoming the best version of himself that he can be. With the Eve of the season start on the horizon, Matteo is looking forward to the opportunity to show why all those teams made a major mistake not taking him earlier in the draft.
Life in Tolyatti, Samara Oblast, Russia, differs greatly from life in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. So it took a little while for Artyom to get fully indoctrinated into the Canadian way of his life. One of the many wonders that he found in Canada was something called poutine, which was French fries covered in cheese curds and gravy. It was delicious, and Kuznetsov has developed a bit of an addiction to them. Then there was the fact that no one in Canada drove a Lada. The Russian car manufacturer was not as popular outside its home country as Kuznetsov expected. Also, AK47s were significantly less a part of Canadian culture than in Kuznetsov's homeland. Canadians also didn't worship their elected leaders daily, which was also a unique feature of the country that stunned the young Russian center. Despite the differences, some things in Canada felt a lot like home in Russia. The weather was cold and dreary. Moose were plentiful in the more rural areas of the provinces.
Arrival in Quebec is a culture shock for Lurtz. Though a city built along a river, just like his home of Isengard, the layout of the place is far too square for his initial liking. The humans speak a strange tongue and few can even converse in the common tongue of Westron. He fears he must resort to yelling and pointing and violence to achieve results. But once he makes contact with team representatives, it becomes a more welcoming place. Though rightfully uncertain about their initial interactions with the massive Uruk, it is clear that the Quebec City staff value Lurtz's intensity and focus. Pleasantries are quickly dispensed with as unnecessary and he is pleased to find that ample space has been provided to him in the locker room. It is clear that Lurtz will not be made to play second fiddle; instead, he is shown some history of the team's goaltending prowess, which he accepts as a worthy challenge. The transition to puny North American ice surface will be a significant hurdle at the start of his career, he is here to stand among greatness and tread upon their footsteps as his own path to glory.
