Rider Clitsome:
Top 5 Player of Today TWICE

^and I consider that to be a borderline resume

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that Bottas was top 10 on that list 3 straight seasons and I think the highest ranked defenseman for 2 if not all 3 of those seasons.

have to build up the hype somehow

I think ultimately you should always look at it on a case by case basis because there are different paths to get into the HoF. Obviously you should have been one of the best players in the league for a while, but aside from that there are lots of possible criteria: Career production, awards, cups, playoff success, seasonal records etc... Everyone will weigh those factors a bit differently, but if you have a nice balance in all of them or really dominated in one category, then you should have a good chance to get in.

You should never underestimate though how much of this comes down to the era you play in and the competition you face. Since the SHL was so different in it's early years, you can't really compare the stats of players inducted before S15 and those that came after. It also was significantly easier to get inducted between S15 and the early S20s because there was less competition. Many of the players inducted during that time would never make it in today, but since the SHL didn't scrap the maximum career-length of eight seasons until around S8 or so, people who created around that date were the first generation of players who could have really long careers and who also were provided with a lot more TPE than those that came before them. Inflation is still happening so players today are also earning more TPE than their counterparts from a bunch of seasons or so, but the difference isn't nearly as big as it was back then, so we have more of a level playing field.

The more interesting question might actually be: Who do you consider to be the best forward (or defenseman, or goalie) of all time? Is it McKeil with his longetivity, McZehrl with his impressive averages given his relatively short career, someone like O'Callahan who really dominated for a couple of seasons, an old legend like Ron Mexico whose numbers don't look that impressive nowadays, but who was considered a step above his competition for a good portion of his career? Or is it someone else?

For me it's Partlow or Scherbluk, with Weber as a honorable mention.

Wong, Kane, Creller, Clitsome, Garbanzo? Wasty perhaps, though his career was kind of short.

Due, Muller and Cant could be in that conversation

McKeil is otherworldly. Bowdown He's been a dominant player and at one time was considered the best in the league but he's also got probably the longest career in history now, nearly surpassing 1,200 games! Just a once in history kind of career.

I think if I kept Miller going for a few more seasons he might be in the HOF because I might have ended up winning an individual award. Nominated for 3 awards in 6 seasons, never won though :(
