I’m extremely excited for the draft combine this year. I’ll get to meet back up with my partner in crime, Luisa Koller. Hopefully one of the general managers realizes the potential in bringing the Austrian Response to their team in a package deal. It’d be like getting both Sedin twins! I’m sure me and Dwayne Wider will get up to some shenanigans. Hopefully he wakes up with both shoes on this time. Last time we went out, we ended up at a Halifax Waffle House at three in the morning, claiming the waffle maker was property of the Raiders and trying to walk out of the restaurant with it. I’m looking forward to proving my worth to the general managers and I have my eye on two teams specifically. I’d be excited to be on an SHL team with any of my current Raiders teammates, but with all of us being highly sought after, I’m not sure we’ll end up in the same place as one another. Mainly, this upcoming combine and prospect weekend, I intend to put on a show for the general managers, and help the prospects settle into their roles. After that weekend though, all bets are off!

One simple hashtag to sum up Casey Crellers pre-draft shenanigans. Most draftees are planning a massive bash, some just want to destroy things, but... Why party when you've been doing that all season. It's time for Casey to cuddle up on the couch, with mittens, his loving dog, and catch up on all of the shows he missed. Vikings, Game of Thrones, Letterkenny top his list of shows he needs to catch up on. These antics wouldn't be complete without some preparations though, pop the shit out of the popcorn, dump those M&Ms into a bowl, make a nice big mug of cocoa. Maybe even pre-heat his couch up with a heating blanket. You think you can step to this? His snuggy has a hood. Deal with it. Still wanna try? He has 3 other snuggies in various colours for his teammates when they stop by in 45 minutes to catch the season finale of Survivor. Chances are Casey will miss the draft, you can't just stop binge watching a show because life gets in the way. Someone will pick him, eventually. No matter where he goes, the snuggies follow, no matter what team drafts Creller, they should be ready to adopt the #SnugLife ![]() ![]() Registered ambacas

Draft day is approaching very quickly (a bit too quickly for me), and I’m looking forward to the festivities that will occur. There are many people I can’t wait to hang out with. Joining late in the season, the Rookie Discord was a great place for me to catch up and meet new people and I met a lot of interesting characters that will be fun to see on draft day. Some guys in particular are Roman Augustus, Nour Harrak, Joseph Lombardi, and Tigole Bitties. On draft day I’ll be watching these guys get called up before I do so unfortunately I will eventually be sitting alone, but I well clap for them as well as all the great rookies being drafted. The thing I am most excited to see is Joseph Lombardi get absolutely hammered as an underager. He’s a lightweight so I’ll have to keep an eye on him so he doesn’t get alcohol poisoning and die. I know Samee will definitely get Joe to some crazy shit while he is drunk so that should be wildly entertaining. But most of all I am looking forward to the moment where a team drafts me. No matter how late in the draft I go or what team drafts me, I will be honored to be called up to the stage and drafted. ![]() Registered S10, S12 Challenge Cup Champion
There are so many things to look forward to at the SHL draft combine. I cannot wait to see the General Managers from the SHL teams in attendance. Understandably, these general managers are going to be assessing every little part about each prospect, and I need to make sure that I understand that both when showing off my skills on the ice and talking with them face-to-face.
Someone else who I can't wait to see if my father, Jackson Turska. He has been so supportive throughout my entire hockey career, and I would not want anyone else by my side when I get drafted. My dad knows so many of the general managers and veteran players around the league, I am sure that he is going to get me well acquainted with a good number of them. There have already been some plans to hit the bars after the draft with the other draftees. This sounds like it will be a chill night with teammates and opponents, however I am fully ready for things to get really out of hand. Before all of that fun begins though, I am definitely going to take it easy, and probably call a player or two from each team. There is no better way to learn about a team's structure, culture, and style than by talking to those who are there day in and day out. When I hear my name called, it is going to be the greatest moment of my life. ![]() Registered Posting Freak
The draft is easily one of the biggest events for us draftees. It is an exciting part of getting better and seeing where the league places you based on your talents in the draft is also very interesting. Instead of just solely waiting for the draft, I look for other events in order to pump me up such as the prospects weekend. And there are many things to look forward to before that one big night which will ultimately decide where you will play and ameliorate your skills. So before a big night like this, you may wonder what I will be doing? Well, I am a Russian so it only makes sense that I party harder than I work. I look forward to seeing my SMJHL team mates such as the lunatic macho Dwayne Wyder himself , the sexy and elegant Cody Fletcher and the beer drinking monster Lukas Muller. These are some great guys to hang around the block with. Cody Fletcher is kind of light weight so when she gets drunk, she becomes a totally different species. Some have even said that she evolves into a snake as she moves her body like a snake and even starts hissing. Lukas Muller on the other hand is a big gentle giant. He gulps down beer like drinking water and then just eats everyone on the table, even my damn food. Finally, we have Dwayne Wyder who likes to put a strip show at bars. With these kind of people, you can only assume that entertainment is what you will be getting. You may now wonder what my trait is. Well, I become a male gigolo and that is something the boys try to stop me from. THe ladies can't help it and neither can I. At times, I like to mess around and put roofies in our drink so that we really turn up. This is the kind of chaos we create but thats okay as long as we produce on the ice. So long until next time.

I like to keep a good attitude and give everything a positive spin. For instance, I had a poor rookie season but this means I have no where to go but onwards and upwards. In the same line of though; we in Prince George had an early departure from the playoffs, but this means more off-time between seasons, more time to spend with each-other and family and for training of course, and part of that training comes in the form of the world's most important ice hockey combine for the SHL draft.
Everything goes by in a weekend, but it's the most important weekend in a player's career. It's a time for schmoozing the big-league general managers . . . or not, if you're like me. It's a time for getting extra repetitions in and impressing the big-show trainers and just getting in shape in general or staying in shape and it's a time for my favorite part: socializing. I haven't seen most these guys and gals in a non-competitive environment since pre-SMJHL draft activities and while I'm only a social drinker, I've taken the chance the spend time with these guys, my extended family, if you will, and go out on Friday and Saturday night and returns not-so-sober. During the day I mainly spend time with Konig, spotting him and taking my chances at some reps every now and again, but I mainly just chat it up with some of the guys and gals around here for the same reason we are. Mostly I am nervous about the draft so i dont think i will be doing a lot of events before the draft. after the whalers win the four star cup i plan to go home to Ontario to visit my parents so i will probably be there when the draft is happening. I havent looked at the teams in the shl so i dont know who might take me or where i want to go. im trying not to worry about what team takes me or anything. i think the only party i would have before the draft will be if we win the cup and i get to party with my team and drink out of the cup. If we dont win the cup i think i will just be having a cry party all by myself up until the draft. If my team wants to have a party thing that would be cool but i dont want to give up on my trip back home to see my family because i miss them. Playing hockey on the other side of the country has been really hard on them and me and i am excited to see them and i think they are planning to have a party for the draft with me.

When it comes to the SHL draft, there's a lot to be excited about. For SMJHL rookies, it's often the biggest event of their season, if not of their career. It's the night when the dice are rolled and they find out what team they'll be spending at least a few years of their career with. To say it has a big impact would be an understatement.
But it's also a night for fun and celebration. Friends who have been playing on rival teams several months can get together to celebrate their collective accomplishments and be free from the stiff competition of professional hockey for a little while. The drinks flow freely and happiness is easy to find. For Seth Paige, draft night will be about friends and family. When asked about his plans for draft night, he had this to say: "A lot of my extended family will be in town, so we're going out for supper before the draft. It'll be nice to see some of them after being away from home a few months now. For once, I'll be making enough to foot the bill, so that'll be a welcome change for my parents. After the draft clears out the plan is to hang out with my teammates. Grab some downtime with Roman Augustus, Tigole Bitties, Joe Lombardi, and the rest of the guys. The playoffs have been really intense so far and it'll be nice to get some chill time and just relax after it's all over." Word count: 251 ![]() Registered Member

On the eve of the SHL draft weekend, the tension in the air is palpable. Everyone is nervously anticipating the combine, wondering how they will do on the workouts. Specifically, everyone is worried about the dreaded VO2 test. Everyone but us in Halifax, that is. You see, we've been taking mock "combines" at our training facility for the last few months. At this point, we know where we stand, so may as well relax and get ready for the next few days. The rookies spend our nights at the rooftop bar at our hotel, killing time and making new friends. I mostly hang out with my defensive partner, McCarthy, but we spend some time with our Captain, Muller and the As, Fletcher and Fourfour. Downski and Wyder tend to tag along too, cause they don't like being left out. We keep each other out of trouble and mingle with some of the prospects from other teams. We don't hang out with those PGF guys though, cause we know they're trouble. Tigole Bitties likes to stop by and chat, and we occasionally see Chiclets and Lundqvist. It's clear though, none of the other teams have the confidence the Raider Rookies have going into the SHL Draft Day. ![]() Registered S23, S30, S31, S33, S39 Challenge Cup Champion ![]() Registered Member
Earlier Score Sports got a chance to talk to Scarecrows rookies after a morning skate. When asked about the upcoming draft combine LW Finn Jakobsen had this to say:
“Well you know, I’m not really thinking about that yet. We have a big game ahead of us tomorrow. This may be the last game as a Scarecrow for a number of the guys, so everyone’s super focused.†“I guess I’m excited, and a little nervous, for the draft combine. I think it’s exciting to try and prove your worth to the scouts, try and sell yourself to them. At the same time though, it’s been a long season, and a lot of us are banged up from playoffs. And to top it off, we have National Team tryouts within a month of the combine, so there’s really no time to relax and recoup until after that. “It’d be nice to have more spare time to hang out with the boys. I think a number of the guys have some “team bonding†in mind, so it’ll be nice to hangout with Tigole, Joey, (Roman) Agustus gloop, and Pags (Seth Paige). My money is on Joey to drink the most- The guy's an absolute tank.On the other end, I think Roman will probably be the one that blacks out first. I even have money on it." “It’ll also be great to catch up with Isak Ødegård. It was a busy season and we never really got the time to hangout when we were here in STL or in VAN. We may have to wait until tryouts before we can chill, seeing as most people have him going top 3, so I’m guessing he’ll be in high demand. Hopefully we’ll talk before next season starts. It'd also be nice to catch up with Corey Volden. I haven't heard from him for a while so it'd be nice to just chill with him. But until then. It’s nose to the grindstone.†![]() Registered S13, S15, S16, S17 Challenge Cup Champion

Mercer Church will be attending the Draft and Combine with a very open mind. While his player agent has ties mainly to two different SHL Franchises, there are no team that would be considered blacklisted. This draft is so deep and so large, that it could be highly unpredictable to see where he lands. While Church felt he was a Top 5 prospect in the SMJHL Draft, he landed in the second round. There is a huge possibility that this would happen again in the big leagues - possibly every team could pass on Church once again. For this he is most looking forward to meeting the GM's of the SHL. There are a lot of familiar faces, yet also equally amount of new faces. Church is a very easy-going light hearted locker room presence, so it will be interesting to see if he hit's it off with a new Franchise he has yet to be connected to. Church is also looking forward to meeting some of the other prospects in his Draft Class. He's familiar with his teammates in Kelowna, but this will give him the chance to meet the other high profile prospects that he will forever be compared to. [204 words.] |
