Bordeleau off to fast start for Quebec

[405 words, ready for grading]

One of the interesting storylines of this early S67 SMJHL season has been the play of Quebec City Citadelles centre Sophie Bordeleau. The eighth pick in the S64 draft, Bordeleau has been on a tear to start this year, firing 16 goals in the first 17 games of the season and adding 13 assists to put some space between her and the field in the scoring race so far. Where this offense has really made an impact is in the clutch department, as six of those goals have been game-winners for the Citadelles to help them get to 11 wins. Our reporter caught up to her after Quebec's most recent game to get the story.

Reporter: Sophie, you've always been a big part of the Citadelles offense. What's it like to be the leader on it now?

Sophie Bordeleau: It's been really great to see everyone come together. Obviously my numbers are looking really good, but it's all thanks to my linemates [Portgas] Ace and Tam [Kove] making great plays. I couldn't do it without them. We've got some really good young guys too, Minaj holding it up on defense, Viktor and Tony banging around got us places in that Crows game and I think we've got a really good shot.

Reporter: Six game-winners, that's top in the league right now. What goes through your mind in those situations?

Sophie: Honestly, I think it's the same as any other game. In my earlier seasons, I found I was thinking too much when I had the puck in those spots and it wouldn't sit down for me. Now that I've played more games and practiced more it just comes more natural, I can trust my shot more and it just feels smoother coming off my stick. Practice definitely does make perfect.

Reporter: There's been some talk of you chasing down the franchise points record set by your old linemate Rylie Versi this past season. Any thoughts on that?

Sophie: It's definitely something I've seen, but I just try and tune the talk out. Rylie is a great guy, I haven't paid too much attention to the SHL this year so hopefully he's doing well up there so far. If the fans are keeping track of where I am, I'll be amused to see if they come up with anything for it.

Reporter: Thanks for your time. Good luck the rest of the way.

Sophie: Thank you.

Rylie's been a pretty bright spot on the team!

“The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. ... There are neither beginnings nor endings to the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.”
