DPS Index - SHL S82 - Week 1
#1

Hello! I would like to present you the ranking of the best scoring teams in defensive statistics, but without deeper analysis, but more for fun. I called it DPS (defensive points score), which I included hits, takeaways and blocked shots. So it is the sum of these three variables, with one modification, which I will write about later. If we can appreciate players for goals and assists, we can also appreciate the contribution to defensive work, so this is a statistic intended for hard workers.

01. Dieter Fruhstuck - 123
02. Sven Holmberg - 119
03. Fredrik Gronlund - 115
04. Crazy Tomato II - 114
05. Nostradamus - 112
06. Hodor - 107
06. Ace Lightning - 107
08. Simo Jaaskelainen - 105
09. Slowpoke - 101
10. Ho Lee-Smokes - 99

In the first week of the season 82, Dieter Fruhstuck from Minnesota Monarchs collected the most points. Two representatives from Toronto also ranked second and fourth respectively. San Francisco Pride can boast the same number of players in the top ten - in third and fifth place.

01. Ho Lee-Smokes - 114
02. Crazy Tomato II - 112
03. Nostradamus - 111
03. Simo Jaaskelainen - 111
05. Fredrik Gronlund - 107
06. Ace Lightning - 107
06. Slowpoke - 107
06. Westley Kirkpatrick - 107
09. Kristian Seppanen - 106
10. Dieter Fruhstuck - 104
10. Dunkler Sowerwine - 104

Naturally, their work rate is not commensurate with the team's overall performance in the season, so I decided to use +/- changes for more dynamics. That's why Ho Lee-Smokes from Chicago jumps from tenth to first. However, the two from San Francisco are still holding high, in third and fifth place. Crazy Tomato II is also holding high, in second position.

Team - Hits + Takeaways + Blocks = Sum
01. TOR - 454 + 239 + 402 = 1095
02. SAN - 428 + 181 + 384 = 993
03. ATL - 424 + 189 + 375 = 988
04. TEX - 410 + 196 + 373 = 979
05. BAL - 401 + 183 + 342 = 969
06. HAM - 437 + 176 + 344 = 957
07. SEA - 375 + 179 + 382 = 936
08. TAM - 432 + 184 + 320 = 936
09. MIN - 344 + 129 + 303 = 932
10. NEW - 423 + 170 + 336 = 929
11. MAN - 428 + 168 + 302 = 898
12. MON - 392 + 166 + 318 = 876
13. CHI - 315 + 173 + 380 = 868
14. CAL - 407 + 157 + 301 = 865
15. WIN - 367 + 171 + 318 = 856
16. BUF - 309 + 183 + 362 = 854
17. NOL - 352 + 181 + 302 = 835
18. LOS - 381 + 196 + 257 = 834
19. PHI - 379 + 187 + 240 = 806
20. EDM - 352 + 189 + 199 = 740

I also decided to use this data for the overall team picture, without using the +/- variable, because it would be quite a turnaround. Thus, the North Stars confirm their defensive activity with over a hundred points over San Diego (the largest advantage in the first week). The teams from Philadelphia and Edmonton clearly lag behind in this respect.
