Salary Cap Theory.
#1

A few weeks ago people were talking about how the salary cap is kind of borked, given the relationship between the current cap and the current minimum contract requirements and so on. I had the idea of designing a salary cap model that's tied to the amount of TPE in the league, so I tried to do some numbers for it.

For the purposes of serving as a placeholder in this model, a players minimum contract size would be $1m, +350k per 100 TPE;
The formula for the salary cap would be the leaguewide average minimum salary cap, + between 12.5% and 17.5%, in order to give room for free agent incentives, just plain being a better team, etc.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/130Y...t#gid=625081175

I'm not posting this as an outright suggestion or advocating for a move to this particular model (although I originally intended to when I started on it), because anyone looking at these numbers can immediately see how actually changing to it and requiring teams to comply would be multi team expansion draft level havoc; I deeply underestimated the disparities in total TPE between teams. I'm posting it <s>because it took me 90 minutes to do, so fuck it may as well make people read it to make me feel better about shooting down my own suggestion about 5 minutes in</s> because <s>I'm extremely intelligent draft me super high and I'll weaponize the suggestion box for you</s> I know everyone here is very good at mutually agreeable and constructive discussion and so I'd like to start or continue one.

Also, what the fuck, Buffalo. How much of your management budget gets spent on babysitters?

I would like $80M in cap.

It may be necessitated with the wave of people coming into the SHL soon.

And this is why Metzler needs to be the first Falcons drafted.

Moment to appreciate the boy Avakael for actually coming up with solutions to problems rather than just pointing them out and being like "fix this" ygm

I see the minuses with it, but do you think the SHL will need another expansion draft eventually?

Instead of tailoring it to TPE should be tailored to your player type/production Stops the superstars from just taking league minimum and might even discourage completely stacked teams as well as limits rookies getting absurd cap hits

Thank you to My boys @Merica and @Ragnar for the lovely sigs!

It'll be like every other expansion. People will say there needs to be an expansion because "this is the best draft class ever!!!!" League expands, a couple seasons later that draft class has gone mostly inactive and everyone starts thinking about whether expansion was actually necessary

Absolutely not. Seems as if we're, just now, coming to a point where the most recent expansion makes sense.

Maxy and Allen: Understood. Don't expand unless or until a problem actually exists. There is no logjam yet.

A much better solution than the retarded 2m hometown discount. Kinda like it overall.

It's not that i like the idea of actually having to force a minimum contract, but it has to be done when money is so easy to Come by outside of contracts, so People feel that they can take a big cut without it hurting their progression, creating these insane teams because of popularity instead of having the salary Cap work as intended, which is to give balance the League Out.

There are teams like Hamilton and Buffalo that are barren right now. We've got mostly inactive players taking up roster spots as we're rebuilding so there is still plenty of room in the SHL.
