Playing time

Should there be limits?

Has been brought up multiple times by many people.

Idea driving to work: All 12 forwards must have at least 10% playing time. All 6 defenders must have at least 20%. No one can have more than 50% playing time.

Discuss.

Note: Any decision won't take affect until S33

Nope.

Says someone who has no depth and likes to give his active players playing time.

Though I may sound like a hypocrite considering I ran a GM connected league where I imposed time limits on players in the game.

Alonzo Garbanzo Final Tallies (Among Defensemen):
2nd in Goals (208), All-Time Assists Leader (765)*, All-Time Points Leader (973), 3rd in Hits (2587), All-Time Blocked Shots Leader (1882)*
*All-Time Leader Among All Skaters

Perhaps just a limit on the amount of time per player? This would be hard for teams with little to no actives though

It's a sort of sticky situation cause of how each team is constructed with actives vs inactives.....

Realistically no forward would play 30 MINS a game....22-23 MAYBE as a top flight forward, so anything in the 26 range seems like a bit much.

BUT

If a team is struggling to field actives (Namely a top 9 forward + top 4 d) then it makes sense to play the actives more, but does potentially skew numbers.

I don't know what the limit would be to keep forwards under a max MP but if there is a rough way to sort it out. I don't think ANY forward should pass the 23 minute threshold. That's still a lot of playing time, and anything more is a bit to much. I'm not a long tenured member, so not sure if this will even hold any weight...

No. Teams need to manage their roster and when players don't like it they need to leave

I would maybe word it a bit differently: All forward lines have at least 10% playing time. All defender lines must have at least X%. No single player can have more than 50 % playing time.

Just now when I read it, it sounds like you have to have 12 different forwards.

Maybe an active qualifier? All *active* players need at least 10% ice time, all *inactive* players can't have more than X%.

As much as I don't like seeing players like McZ get double shifted.. I disagree. Don't impose time limits on players.

I think we need upper caps rather than lower threshholds. . .shouldn't be having forwards playing 45%+ in a game.

Can we also have caps on inactive % as well?

Good discussions so far I like it.

Just want to add this from one of the PM's I got.

Minnesota is playing six forwards on all four lines with 50% PT for each player. Would that be considered acceptable

No. That's exactly the thing we should be trying to stop.

If I wanted to see forwards getting overplayed and having unbelievably high goal totals because of it I'd go play NHL 17

There should be some balance but perhaps treated more as a loose cap rather than a hard and fast rule. The scoring is skewed by these players taking crazy amounts of ice time.
